Coaches Laura Utsch-Moore and her siblings all grew up part fish in Virginia. Laura loved swimming competitively throughout high school and in college for BYU. 200 Backstroke is still her specialty. When she moved to Tucson, Laura continued swimming at the Masters level and also coached age-group and Masters swimmers at the JCC. Now a full-time mother of two beautiful children, Macky (3) and Kalea Sky (3 months), Laura s family loans her out part time to the Skyline Masters Swim Club. I just love coaching adults, she says. Sometimes the smallest adjustments can make the biggest difference in their performance. Laura is a superb stroke technician. Every Saturday workout is a devoted stroke technique day with Laura at Skyline. Jordan Stoughton grew up a desert swimmer in Tucson, competing for Ventana Canyon during his age-group days. While a student at Catalina Foothills High School, he ran Varsity track. Currently a Junior at the U of A, Jordan enjoys coaching Masters teams at both Ventana Canyon and Skyline. He, too, has grown to love coaching adult swimmers, mastering the balance between patiently delivering stroke advice to those less experienced while simultaneously making more experienced swimmers beg for mercy. And he does it all with a disarming charm. What s not to love? Club President A competitive swimmer since the age of 6, June Hussey intends to never stop making waves. These days, at age 47, though she trains in a pool, she takes the most pleasure in swimming without walls. Since 1997, she has put more than 30 open water races under her cap, from the Maui Channel to the Long Island Sound and Escape from Alcatraz. June has given back to her sport by serving as Long Distance Chair, Communications Chair and Newsletter Editor for Arizona Masters. Having trained with several Tucson Masters teams, June formed Skyline Masters Swim Club out of her passion to grow the sport and elevate the Masters swimming experience in Tucson. Skyline has offered us an ideal setting for our Masters program, and we are fortunate to have the full support of the club s management and board. Skyline Masters swimmers aspire to be great role models/ambassadors for adult fitness.

Pool Rules Skyline Country Club grants Skyline Masters Swim Club the privilege of using their beautiful pool. We are very grateful. There are not enough public pools to meet growing demand for organized adult workouts in Tucson. As a Club guest, please be cognizant of a few simple rules: 1. Please park in the Upper (uphill) lot. The Lower Lot (downhill) is reserved for Skyline members. Think of the uphill climb to your car as an aerobic extra. 2. Please use the exterior stairs to access the pool. 3. Club facilities other than the pool, including the locker rooms, are closed to nonmembers. You are welcome to use the Mens and Women s rest rooms located just up the short set of stairs next to the Jacuzzi. 4. Please wear your suit to and from practice. In colder seasons, a swim parka is highly recommended. 5. Please bring your own towel, sunscreen, etc. 6. Skyline members wishing to swim during normal Masters workout hours are entitled to use the two lanes closest to the clubhouse (east). Please watch for any lap swimmers waiting for a lane on deck and graciously yield the lane or lanes closest to the clubhouse to them. Your coach will reassign you a lane with minimal interruption. Thank you for your cooperation. 7. If you ever have a comment, suggestion or grievance, please call June Hussey, President of Skyline Masters Swim Club, at 977-5133. 8. Coaches are independent contractors, not employees of Skyline Country Club. 9. No diving allowed. 10. If swimming during evening hours, please bring a flashlight! 11. IN CASE OF EMERGENCY: If you experience or witness an emergency at the pool, immediately dial 9-1-1 from your cell phone, then notify the Fitness Desk located inside the Fitness Center, just up the short set up stairs from the pool. There is a defibrillator located on the upper (main) clubhouse level by the main reception desk. What do I need to bring to my first practice? Swim suit, towel, goggles, cap and an I can do this attitude. Optional: pull buoy, fins and paddles. Kickboards will be provided. Please note: Swim club will not have access to locker rooms so please plan to wear your suit to and from practice. (Restrooms are available!)
Scorpions Apparel We will aim to make available to all members team caps, suits, swim parkas, tee shirts and anything else we can get our logo on. Wear your team colors with pride! Fundraising Activities It is our goal to cover 100% of our club s operating costs from membership dues. However, from time to time, we may host fundraisers such as lap-a-thons or swim clinics to help keep dues as low as possible. Proceeds from such events may also go towards meet travel, apparel, banquets or social events. Your participation in fundraising will be strictly optional, of course. Competitions Competition is always optional. However, goals are important in swimming as in life. Meets and open water races make for great motivation. We ll keep you posted on upcoming events. Also, we ll give you opportunities to take part in Postal Events such as the One-Hour Swim and the 1650, as offered through USMS. See how many laps you can complete in one hour; send in your results and see how you did against others your age. See if you can do better next year!
