Led by all-round competitors Allyse Ishino and Shelley Alexander, STANFORD won the first-ever Pac-10 Showcase. The Cardinal stuck on every routine en route to a score of 196.625, its highest score in school history in an opening meet. UCLA finished second followed by OREGON STATE. Five Pac-10 women s gymnastics teams will be in action this weekend, two of which are Top 25 duals. For the second week in a row, No. 8 Oregon State hosts a Top 25 team, as No. 15 Ohio State visits Corvallis, Ore. No. 5 UCLA travels to Cedar City, Utah to take on the Thunderbirds of No. 23 Southern Utah. No. 18 Arizona travels to Utah State. California hosts a tri-meet against UC Davis and San Jose State. Washington hosts Boise State, Illinois State and Seattle Pacific on Saturday at Hec Edmundson Pavilion in Seattle. The Wildcats were led by Deanna Graham. Graham tied for first with a 9.875 on vault, and place second on the floor with a score of 9.900. Arizona also debuted two freshman beam sets from Jordan Williams and Shana Sangston. ARIZONA STATE: Arizona State finished sixth with a team total of 191.850 at the Pac-10 Showcase. The Sun Devils finished fifth on vault and floor exercise. Mary Atkinson tied for fourth on the vault with a score of 9.850. CALIFORNIA: California finished seventh at the Pac-10 Showcase with a score of 191.675. The Golden Bears strongest event was the beam. Sophomore Madisyn O Brien had Cal's top score of the day, earning a career-best 9.850 for her routine. She tied for third place among the 42 beam routines, also a team-best in the meet. OREGON STATE: Oregon State opened its 2011 season with a dual meet against then No. 12 LSU. The Beavers tumbled past LSU, 195.400-193.350. Leslie Mak, competing in the all-around for the first time in her college career, earned four individual titles including the all-around with a score of 39.375. Oregon State wrapped up the opening weekend scoring 195.375 to earn a third place finish at the Pac-10 Showcase. Olivia Vivian scored a career-best 9.950 on the uneven bars to win the individual title. STANFORD: Stanford seniors Allyse Ishino (39.350) and Shelley Alexander (39.250) finished second and third, respectively in the all-around competition, helping the Cardinal win the Pac-10 Showcase. Danielle Ikoma (38.950) finished sixth in her first collegiate all-around. Alyssa Brown and Alexander finished in a four-way tie for first in the vault at 9.875, which the Cardinal won with a score of 49.150. The Cardinal also had the highest team score on the beam. UCLA: UCLA opened its season on the road at Utah. The Bruins dropped the dual meet to then No. 5 Utah, 195.7-195.3. Brittani McCullough and Elyse Hopfner- Hibbs earned top honors on uneven bars with scores of 9.8. Olivia Courtney had a team best 9.875 on vault. In its second meet in three days, UCLA finished in second place at the Pac-10 Showcase. Hopfner-Hibbs won the all-around with a 39.55 and also took first place on beam and floor with scores of 9.95. WASHINGTON: Washington opened the 2011 season with a fifth-place finish at the Pac-10 Showcase. Seniors Kristen Linton and Samantha Walior both tied careerhighs with scores of 9.900 on bars, which tied for the third best score on the event in the meet. Junior Ruby Engreitz also scored a career-high with a 9.875 on uneven bars. Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- UCLA junior Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs has been awarded Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week, for the week of Jan.5-12, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. Competing all-around in two meets this weekend, Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs averaged 39.1125 in the allaround, with a high of 39.55 coming on Sunday to win the Pac-10 Showcase. Hofpner-Hibbs 39.55 is tied for the highest in the nation so far this season. The Bruin junior also won the beam and floor titles at the Pac-10 Showcase, scoring 9.95 on each event. The 9.95 on floor tied her career-high mark, and her 9.95 on beam included a perfect 10 from one of the two judges. Hopfner-Hibbs also tied for first place on uneven bars at Utah, scoring 9.8, and placed third in the all-around and on vault. The Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week honor is the fifth in Hopfner-Hibbs s career, and 31st in Bruin history. Pac-10 Special Performer of the Week WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- OREGON STATE junior Olivia Vivian have been awarded Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week and Pac-10 Special Performance of the Week honors, respectively, for the week of Jan.5-12, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. Vivian, a native of Perth, Australia, performed a near-flawless uneven bars routine at the Pac-10 Showcase to finish Oregon State s busy back-toback weekend scoring a career-best 9.950 to win the event title. Vivian s score improved her career mark by a half-tenth. On Friday, in a dual meet against LSU, Vivian scored 9.875 on the bars to win that individual title as well.
