The group have been exploring the themes of Mental Illness and have been inspired by scripts written by people who have experienced mental health problems first hand. The play looks at the secrecy behind mental illness and some of the problems that people have associated with these types of conditions. Year 10 Performing Arts group will be invited to watch this performance. This is Arc s brand new theatre piece and the fourth in the Company s Blade Quartet. This piece picks up on themes and issues arising from young people s responses to Boy X - our third play in the quartet, and explores the impact on family and community of the murder of a 16-year old boy. Much of the discussion following this performance brought up issues of lack of trust between the police and young people about the honour code of not snitching on people you know even in the case of serious violence. The loyalty and camaraderie instilled from early on by such parental injunctions as don t tell tales stays central in many people s minds and presents dilemmas and conflicts for individuals. Pact does not make any attempt to answer these questions, but rather invites its young audiences into an experience, which presents a set of complex decisions. Tuesday 7 th December 9.45am. 10

BOOKED UP The aim of Booked Up was to inspire excitement about reading and to help students discover new books and authors. It gave every Year 7 child a chance to choose a free book from a list of specially selected titles. Students came into the Library to make their choice and then had to wait for delivery! Below are a selection of our Year 7 pupils receiving their books when Mrs Baisden made a surprise visit to their English classes. 13
Year 7 Essex Cup Football Dagenham Park 2 Burntmill 2 (Burntmill won 3 2 on penalties) Dagenham Park were very unlucky to be on the losing side after an excellent performance from the team against a skilful and well organised opposition. The game kicked off at 2:00 in windy conditions and Burntmill made an excellent start putting us under early pressure. However, we got ourselves back in the game with Alejandro Ramirez Montes and captain Daniel Matondo constant threats on the wings. Finally, the pressure paid off as striker Collins Wetende smashed home a left footed volley from a corner. Burntmill came back strongly and were level quickly after they produced a good break and they then took the lead after an excellent strike from their right winger. At half time it was Burntmill 2 Dagenham Park 1. In the second half, Dagenham Park were completely dominant with Rheo Calvin driving the team forward but we could not get the equaliser and goalkeeper Quam Adesanya was forced to make some great saves as the opposition threatened on the counter attack. However, with 10 minutes to go Gospel Momongo got the ball on the edge of the box and his great turn and dribble created a chance which he clinically finished to make it 2 2. With little time left and Dagenham Park dominating we looked certain to win but we just couldn t quite finish them off and after extra time the match had to be decided on a penalty shootout. Both keepers produced some wonderful saves and after 5 penalties each it was 2 2 so it went into sudden death. Unfortunately, Burntmill won the shootout to knock us out of the cup. However, it was a great performance from the team. A week after the cup exit we played All Saints at home and produced a good performance to win 2 1 with Gospel Momongo the man of the match scoring 2 fantastic goals; the winning one being scored with just 3 minutes left to play.
