City WHAT 2 WATCH 4 Oklahoma State s women s basketball team will face its fourth consecutive ranked opponent on Sunday when it travels to Norman, Okla., for the first installment of The Bedlam Series. The Cowgirls will take on No. 22 Oklahoma at 2 p.m. inside the Lloyd Noble Center. The Cowgirls are 0-4 this season against Top 25 competition after losses to No. 25 Oregon State, No. 2 Baylor, No. 16 Texas and No. 25 Kansas State. A win would be the first for OSU over a ranked team since defeating No. 24 West Virginia on Feb. 13, 2016. OSU will be looking to avoid its first four-game losing streak since January of 2015. Kaylee Jensen enters the contest as the league s leading scorer (18.6 ppg) and its top rebounder at 10.3 boards per outing. Jensen s nine double-doubles are tops in the Big 12. Jensen has 19 career double-doubles, one shy of tying Jackie Glosson for eighth on the OSU s all-time list. Her 118 career blocks are 36 shy of joining Christian Hood for second on the school s all-time chart. Katelyn Loecker has dished out 23 assists in conference play against eight turnovers and ranks second overall among league players in assist-turnover ratio. KNOW THE FOE The Sooners enter play looking to bounce back from a loss at Texas during the midweek. OU is 9-1 this season at home with its lone setback coming against Oral Roberts on Dec. 4. OU leads the league in steals at 10.2 per game. Maddie Manning paces the Big 12 with her 2.4 steals per game, while Peyton Little is fourth at 1.9. Nancy Mulkey is third in the league with her 2.1 blocked shots per game. OSU VS. OKLAHOMA... THE SERIES Last year, OSU swept the regular-season series against its in-state rival for the first time since 1998. The Sooners won the most recent meeting, claiming a 61-43 win at the Big 12 Championship in Oklahoma City. The Cowgirls have not won back-to-back contests in Norman since winning three in a row from 1996-1998. LAST TIME OUT The Cowgirls were dealt their third consecutive loss to a Top 25 opponent, losing to K-State on Jan. 14. Kaylee Jensen logged her ninth double-double of the season, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS The Cowgirls have had considerable success over the past decade-plus at home against non-conference foes. During that span, OSU has posted an 99-4 mark and has gone undefeated nine times. The Cowgirls had a 47-game non-conference winning streak, which came to an end in 2010 against No. 5 Duke. Since that time, the Cowgirls have reeled off 55 consecutive non-conference wins inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. That string is comprised of seven NCAA Tournament berths (2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) and three WNIT appearances (2009, 2011, 2012). In 2012, the Cowgirls won their first WNIT title. With OSU s NCAA berth this season, it marks just the second time in program history the Cowgirls have made four NCAA appearances in a row. OSU made the NCAA field four consecutive years from 1993-1996. JENSEN EARNS PRESEASON HONOR Kaylee Jensen was honored with the announcement of the Big 12 Conference Preseason All-Big 12 Team. The junior from Genoa, Neb., received honorable mention status in a poll of the league s coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. Last season, Jensen was named a second-team All-Big 12 selection after finishing eighth among league players in scoring (14.6 ppg) and fourth in rebounding at 8.3 boards per game. Additionally, she was 10th in the league in field-goal percentage (50.1 percent) and fourth with her 1.8 blocked shots per contest. 2016-17 COWGIRL ROSTER ## Player Pos. Cl. Ht. FIVE-YEAR PLAN Under the direction of head coach Jim Littell, the Cowgirl program has enjoyed unprecedented success, entrenching itself in the top half of the Big 12. The Cowgirls have appeared in the postseason all five years under his direction, making them one of just four teams in the league to do so. OSU has appeared in the NCAA tournament the past four seasons, joining Baylor and Oklahoma as the only program s to do so. The Cowgirls have won 20 games in each of the past five seasons. Only Baylor and West Virginia have done the same. OSU s 110 wins during that stretch are the third-best total among league schools as well. Team Record Postseason Appearances Baylor 175-13 Five NCAAs West Virginia 123-51 Four NCAAs, One WNIT Oklahoma State 110-54 Four NCAAs, One WNIT Texas 107-60 Four NCAAs Oklahoma 106-62 Five NCAAs Iowa State 93-63 Four NCAAs Kansas State 88-78 Two NCAAs, Two WNITs TCU 79-79 Three WNITs Texas Tech 76-83 One NCAA, One WNIT Kansas 75-88 Two NCAAs POST PRESENCE Entering her junior campaign, Kaylee Jensen will be the focal point of the Cowgirl squad and is one of the most prominent returning players in the Big 12. Jensen s 14.6 points per game is the fifth-best average among returning players. Her 8.3 rebounds per game rank second only to Iowa State s Seanna Johnson among returners. Jensen s 1.8 blocked shots are the third-best average among returning players. Additionally, her 10 double-doubles from a year ago rank second only to Johnson s 14. The four perished in a plane crash on Nov. 17, 2011 in Arkansas while on a recruiting trip. The memorial, which will reside on the northeast side of the OSU Athletics Center, is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2017. POLLING PLACES The Cowgirls picked up where they left off last season, finishing the year receiving votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. This season, the Cowgirls received votes in the USA Today Sports NCAA Division I Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll. OSU tallied seven points in the poll. THE CENTURY MARK In his fifth season as OSU s head coach, Jim Littell recorded win No. 100 at the school with the Cowgirls victory at Texas Tech. Littell became the third Cowgirl head coach to do so, joining Dick Halterman (333 wins) and Kurt Budke (112 wins). With OSU s win against Loyola Marymount on Nov. 17, Littell matched Budke s win total. Fittingly, equalling the mark of his good friend on the fifth anniversary of Budke s death. ROARING 20S The Cowgirls made history last season, posting a 20-win campaign for the fifth year in a row. The feat marked the first time in program history OSU has enjoyed such a stretch. OSU has 15 20-win seasons in its history. Eight of those totals have been posted over the past 10 years. I WAS BORN IN A SMALL TOWN Of the 15 players on the OSU roster, only 11 come from cities with populations less than 50,000. Last season, she converted 19 and-1 opportunities, including four against Washington State. This year, she tallied eight successful and-1s. YOUTHFUL SENIORS Of the 15 players on the Cowgirl roster, only two are four-year seniors: Katelyn Loecker and Diana Omozee. The Cowgirl duo has combined to play in 136 career games, but has made just 18 starts. Through her first three years, Loecker has been in the starting five on 17 occasions, while Omozee has been in the lineup once. EYEING 1,000 Through two seasons, Kaylee Jensen tallied 601 points. If the Genoa, Neb., native reaches the 1,000-point plateau during her junior campaign, she would become the 23rd Cowgirl to reach the milestone. OFF AND RUNNING Recent history says OSU will succeed early and often. OSU won its first eight games to start both the 2010-11 and 2011-12 campaigns. The following season, the Cowgirls won their first 11 games to set a new school standard. Three years ago, OSU broke that mark after reeling off victories in its first 12 contests. In 2014-15, the Cowgirls won 10 of their first 11 non-league games with the lone loss coming at North Carolina. Last year, OSU reeled off eight wins in a row to start the year before suffering its first loss at No. 20 South Florida. Melinda played for the Cowgirl basketball team during the 2008-09 season, competing in 29 games and averaging 1.3 rebounds and 0.4 steals per game. ACROSS THE POND Several former Cowgirl standouts are competing across the globe in the professional ranks. Former All-American Tiffany Bias is currently in her first season with Maccabi Raanana (Israel). Bias just completed her first season as a member of the WNBA s Dallas Wings. Brisa Silva is also competing professionally with her most recent competition coming for Tapatias in Mexico. Tegan Cunningham currently appears on the Melbourne Boomers roster in her native Australia. Former All-American Andrea Riley is competing for the Flying Foxes in Austria. HOME SWEET HOME Gallagher-Iba Arena has not been kind to its visitors since OSU head coach Jim Littell took over the program. Over his first five seasons, his squads have a combined mark of 74-14 on their home floor. The Cowgirls won a programbest 18 games during his first campaign en route to capturing the WNIT title. The following season, OSU posted a 13-3 mark and followed with a 14-3 record in 2013-14. The 2014-15 season saw OSU go 13-4 in Stillwater before tallying a 16-1 mark a year ago. COWGIRLS SIGN FOUR The Cowgirls signed four players to National Letters of Intent today with head coach Jim Littell and his staff adding a pair of junior college standouts in Maria Castro and Clitan de Sousa as well as prep talents Braxtin Miller and Abbie Winchester. Castro helped Gulf Coast State (Fla.) College to a 32-1 mark and the NJCAA national title a year ago. As a freshman, the 5-11 forward averaged 10.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 41.4 percent from the floor. de Sousa helped Seward County (Kan.) Community College to runner-up finishes in both the Jayhawk Conference and the Region VI Tournament as a freshman. The 6-0 forward started 32 of the Lady Saints 33 games on the year, averaging 8.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest. Miller has led Alter High School to state titles each of the past two seasons. Last year, Miller averaged 16.8 points per contest and produced a 33-point, 10-rebound outing in the state title game. She was named both the conference and area player of the year. As a junior, Winchester averaged a double-double for Heritage Hall in Oklahoma City. The 2013-14 season produced a 25-win campaign as well as the program s third NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. OSU reeled off a school-record 12 consecutive wins to start the year. Coached Tiffany Bias to honorable mention All-America status. Bias went on to be drafted by the WNBA s Phoenix Mercury In 2012-13, Littell guided OSU to its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2010. The Cowgirls got out of the gate quickly, starting the year with 11 consecutive victories to log what was the best start in school history at the time. Coupled with its six wins to close out 2012, Littell s squad held the nation s longest winning streak for six weeks. Littell coached Tiffany Bias and Toni Young to honorable mention All-America status, while Brittney Martin was named a freshman All-American. Young capped her career as a first-round draft pick by the WNBA s New York Liberty, while Martin finished her freshman campaign with an invite to USA Basketball s U19 Team Trials. In 2011-12, he directed the Cowgirls to the 11th 20-win season in program history and saw his squad extend its school-record string of postseason appearances to six in a row and capped the season with the school s first-ever WNIT title. Littell served as OSU s associate head coach from 2005-2011. OSU s WNIT semifinal victory over San Diego resulted in Littell s 20th victory as head coach, making him the first coach in program history to achieve the feat during their first season. As associate head coach, he was instrumental in the Cowgirls producing the nation s largest turnaround and the program s first NCAA Tournament berth in more than a decade in 2007. He also helped OSU to NCAA berths in 2008 and 2010 as well as WNIT appearances in in 2009 and 2011. Prior to his move to the Division I level, Littell constructed a hall of fame career during his 14-year tenure at Seward County (Kan.) Community College. A 2009 inductee into the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame, Littell compiled an eye-popping set of numbers at his former post as the Lady Saints won 87 percent of their games, tallying a 418-61 ledger and producing nine Jayhawk West Conference titles. A nine-time conference coach of the year, Littell was named the WBCA National Coach of the Year in 2001. His 2002 squad produced three All-Americans, a perfect 38-0 mark and the school s first-ever national championship in any sport. He was named the NJCAA National Tournament Coach of the Year that same season. Under his watch, the Lady Saints recorded seven 30-win seasons. After finishing with a 14-16 record during his first season, Littell s squads never produced less than 25 wins in a season and averaged nearly 32 wins per year against less than four losses over the course of his final 13 seasons. From 1995-2004, the Lady Saints did not lose a home game, posting a 135-game winning streak inside the SCCC Activities Center to set the NJCAA national record. During the course of his final 13 seasons, Littell s squads won 99 percent of their home contests, producing an astounding record of 189-2. All told, his squads produced 11 All-Americans and five Region VI Most Valuable Players. Nine times, one of Littell s players was tabbed as the Jayhawk West Conference Most Valuable Player. Littell spent the 1990-91 season at Garden Plains High School, posting a 21-3 mark. As head coach at Friends University from 1983-88, he produced a 95-39 record and a pair of conference championships. He also served as the assistant men s coach at Cameron (Okla.) University from 1988-89. Littell began his coaching career at Oxford High School in 1978 where he produced a 94-14 mark and a Kansas Class 2A state championship in 1981. LITTELL VS.
