The Keydets lead the overall series 8-5, with PC earning a 77-67 decision over the former Big South rival in the last meeting during the 2016-17 season... VMI is 0-2, after dropping a 61-77 decision to Dusquesne in the last meeting... The Keydets are led by Bubba Parham with 17.0 ppg... Pacing the team in rebounds is Tyler Creammer and Keith Smith with 4.5 rpg apiece... PC is 1-2 after dropping a 68-86 game to NC State... The Blue Hose are led by Reggie Dillard with 16.7 ppg... Francois Lewis is tops on the boards with 6.3 rpg... PC is averaging 76.0 points and 33.0 rebounds per game... PC led NC State at the half, 44-36, after shooting 60.0% in the opening 20 minutes... The Wolfpack rallied with an opening second half 28-9 run to take the come-from-behind win, 86-68... The game against Tennessee to open the season, as well as the matchups against N.C. State, Nichols State and UMBC/Chicago State, are part of the Battle 4 Atlantis Regional Play... A lot of new faces on the men s basketball team for the 2017-18 season, especially on the coaching side with the hiring of former Wofford Associate Head Coach Dustin Kerns as the team s 18th coach this past spring... At Wofford Coach Kerns was part of two Souther Conference championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances... This past spring Coach Kerns replaced Gregg Nibert, who resigned after the 2017-18 season after leading the Blue Hose for 28 years... A whole new staff joined Coach Kerns with the addition of Tommy Brown, Frank Young, and Patrick Moynihan... Coach Brown led Lee University for 11 years, making eight consecutive NAIA Tournament appearances... Frank Young was a standout player at West Virginia and still ranks among the alltime leaders in three-pointers made, attempted, and percentage... Dustin Kerns Head Coach Clemson, 2002 Dustin Kerns is in his first season, having taken over as PC s 18th men s basketball head coach on May 23, 2017. Kerns comes to PC after completing his seventh season on the Terrier coaching staff and fourth as associate head coach. It was his second stint at Wofford, previously serving as an assistant coach from 2004-07. In the six seasons between, he was an assistant coach at Santa Clara. At Wofford, Kerns helped lead the Terriers to back-to-back Southern Conference Tournament championships in 2014 and 2015, as well as a regular season title in 2014-15. Along with their two conference tournament titles, the Terriers made consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, which included a narrow 56-53 loss in 2015 to No. 5-seeded Arkansas in a game Wofford led for more than 20 minutes. The Terrier men s basketball team has graduated 100 percent of its student-athletes every year Kerns has been affiliated with the program. As an assistant coach, he was part of wins against Villanova, Gonzaga, Purdue, NC State, Cincinnati, and Auburn. During Kerns time at Wofford, the Terriers went 7-2 in the Southern Conference Tournament and finished the 2015 season with a school-record 28 wins, as awell as a final RPI ranking of 48. In four seasons as an Associate Head Coach, Wofford went 44-9 at home, 79-53 overall, and 57-25 in the league, including tournament games, finishing in the top four each season. He coached numerous All-Southern Conference selections, as well as three All-Freshmen Team honorees. In 2015 he signed Fletcher Magee who was named the 2016 Mid-Major National Player of the Year by College Court Report. Kerns has received national recognition as one of college basketball s top assistant coaches and recruiters. CoachStat.net ranked Kerns the No. 4 Low- Major Recruiter in the nation, as well as its No. 20 Mid-Major Assistant Coaches. CollegeInsider. com recently featured Kerns in its article 30 Assistants Ready to Run their own Programs. Kerns was an assistant coach for six seasons at Santa Clara University. During that time Santa Clara had the third most wins in the West Coast Conference behind Gonzaga and Saint Mary s (CA). Kerns helped the Broncos post 26 victories in 2013, earning the CBI Post-season tournament title for the second time in three years. Santa Clara won its first CIT Post-Season Tournament in 2011, finishing with 24 wins. Prior to becoming an assistant coach on Coach Keating s staff Kerns served as Director of Basketball Operations at Santa Clara for one season. Kerns joined the Broncos in 2007. Kerns also spent a season as a graduate assistant under thenhead coach Buzz Peterson at Tennessee. The Vols earned a berth in the NIT that season. Kerns was camp and coaching clinic director during his time in Knoxville, while assisting with team scouting, compliance and academics. He received a Master s of Science from Tennessee in 2004. Kerns first job in college basketball was at Tennessee Tech, as he spent the 2002-03 season as the program s Director of Basketball Operations. He assisted head coach Mike Sutton with all aspects of the program, including opponent scouting, on-campus recruiting, scheduling, film exchange and team academics. Kerns is a 2002 graduate of Clemson University, where he earned a degree in secondary education. As an undergraduate, he worked as a student assistant for Tigers men s basketball team under then-head coach Larry Shyatt, helping organize summer camps, while also assisting with the scout films. Kerns was hired to coach at the prestigious Michael Jordan Flight School three summers in a row during 2001-2003. During his coaching career, Kerns has seen 28 players play profesisonally. A Kingsport, Tennessee native, Kerns played at Dobyns-Bennett High School, which ranked first in the nation in all-time wins at the prep level. Tommy Brown Asssistant Coach Covenant, 1993 Frank Young Asssistant Coach West Virginia, 2007 Tommy Brown is in his first season on Dustin Kern's staff as assistant coach. He was hired in June of 2017. He brings 22 years of coaching, including 18 as a head coach, and has amassed almost 400 wins during his career. Brown comes to PC after a brief stint as Director of Operations for the Illinois women's basketball team. A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., Brown came to Champaign after spending 11 years as head basketball coach at Lee University. A semifinalist for the 2012-13 Don Meyer National Coach of the Year Award, Brown led Lee to the NAIA National tournament in eight consecutive seasons, including an Elite Eight and two Sweet Sixteen appearances. He led the Flames to more than 240 victories, two 30-win seasons, and six additional seasons with 20 plus wins. Brown was named SSAC Coach of the Year and the Victory Sports NAIA Division I Coach of the Year in 2008 after leading Lee to a 33-2 record and the SSAC regular season and tournament championships. Young has spent the last three seasons on the staff at UNF. UNF saw success during Young s stint, with the Ospreys finishing the 2014-15 season with 23 wins and their first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. In 2015-16, the team posted 22 wins, including an impressive win over Illinois, and played in the NIT Tournament. As a player at West Virginia, Young was a part of some highly successful teams. He capped off his collegiate career by capturing the 2007 NIT Championship MVP honor after leading the Mountaineers to the title. In the championship game, he connected on 6-of-7 three-pointers and scored 24 points in the victory over Clemson. as the head coach and Athletic Director at Bluefield College where he directed the Rams to the Division II National Tournament on four different occasions. He was a three-time Appalachian Athletic Conference Coach of the Year award recipient and led Bluefield to five straight 20+ win seasons. In addition, he led Bluefield to a Division I win at Elon. In addition, he led Lee to a Division I win at East Carolina during his tenure there. Brown also has four years of coaching experience at the high school level, posting a 96-21 record as head coach. In his stints at Lee and Bluefield, Brown posted 13 straight 20-win seasons and was named a conference coach of the year six times. Brown earned his Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Covenant College, where he saw a successful college basketball career as a starter, scoring 1,980 points and recording 1,100 rebounds. He received his master's in Physical Education from the University of Tennessee. Brown has three children, two sons, Mason and Joseph, and one daughter, Emma Kate. At WVU, Young finished his career ranked among the program s all-time leaders in three-pointers made (187), attempted (499) and percentage (37.5). Young also owns the Mountaineers single season marks for treys made (117) and attempted (270), which he accomplished during his senior season. He was his team s leading scorer at 15.3 points per game in 2007 while ranking second in rebounding at 4.4 boards a contest. Young continued his playing career after West Virginia with professional stints in Europe. He played for EnBW Ludwigsburg in Germany (2007), Rotterdam Challengers (2008) and Landstede Club (2008-09) in the Netherlands along with Germany s Crailsheim Merlins (2010-11). Prior to North Florida, Frank spent one season as an assistant coach at West Virginia Wesleyan. As a senior prep standout for Florida High, Young averaged 22.3 points and 10.1 rebounds while being named the Tallahassee Democrat All-Big Bend Player of the Year and 2A Florida State Player of the Year runner-up. Young was also selected to the Florida Sports Writers Association s Class 2A all-state squad. A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Young earned his bachelor s degree in marketing from West Virginia in 2007 and also got an MBA from Florida Institute of Technology in 2013. Patrick Motnihan is in his first season as assistant men s basketball coach, having assumed the role in June of 2017. Moynihan comes to PC after one season at Troy as a graduaet assistant, and helped spark one of the best seasons at the tradition rich Troy program. The Trojans saw their largest improvement in the history of the program, going 22-15, winning its first Sun Belt Championship, and advancing to the NCAA Tournament. In his lone season at Troy, Moynihan assisted with many aspects of the program and helped the Trojans to a 13-win improvement from the previous season. Presbyterian College Men's Basketball Moynihan had a very successful playing career and was named UNG Male athlete of the week numerous times. After graduation, Moynihan was an assistant at Buford High School where he helped the Wolves to a 28-6 season, which included a 22-game winning streak. The team won the 2014 Region 6 AAA Championship and was the AAA State Runner-Up. He also coached with the Atlanta All-Stars AAU team to a Georgia State Championship and a 10th-place finish at nationals. Patrick Moynihan Asssistant Coach North Georgia, 2013 Moynihan previously spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at North Alabama. The Lions had a winning record in 2015-16, going 16-13 on the year with a 12-4 record at home and 13-9 in the Gulf South Conference. The season was highlighted by a 94-81 win over Kentucky Wesleyan, which was ranked fifth in the country and was one of only three losses on the year. Moynihan graduated with a degree in finance and management from North Georgia in 2013 where he lettered in men s basketball for four seasons. As a two-year captain at UNG, he was a Peach Belt Conference All-Academic selection. He is the grandson of former Davidson, Maryland, James Madison and Georgia State head coach Charles Lefty Driesell. His brother, Michael, is the director of operations at Mississippi State. His aunt, Pam, is the pastor at Trinity Presbyterian Church which is the second largest Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. Nelson Jones Athletic Trainer East Tennessee State, 1983 Nelson Jones enters his 31st season at Presbyterian College, 13th as the Director of Sports Medicine and 3rd as an Associate Athletic Director. Jones oversees a staff of seven and is responsible for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries for all student-athletes at PC. He acts as the primary athletic trainer for the men s basketball and men s and women s golf teams. Jones originally joined the PC community in 1986 as the first-ever certified athletic trainer in the school s history. He was promoted to Director of Sports Medicine in 2004. Prior to his arrival, Jones served a three-year stint as an assistant athletic trainer at Furman. In addition to working with the Paladins, he has collegiate experience from East Tennessee State as well as doing internships with the Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills of the National Football League and the Michigan Panthers of the former United States Football League. The Bristol, Va., native earned a bachelor s degree in physical educationathletic training from East Tennessee State (1983) and a master s degree in health sciences from Furman (1985). He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the South Carolina Athletic Trainers Association.
