Local Insider Info If you are looking for powder, the fluffy stuff not the resort, then you don t have to look too hard at Powder Mountain. There are some areas though where that you can find extra good stashes even a week after a storm. One such area is off of Sunrise pommel lift, yes, they have a pommel lift. Since this lift requires a level of coordination since you stick the pommel between you legs, beginners probably should stick with the main portion of the mountain. After you head to the top of the lift, there are numerous possibilities of paths-less-traveled. For instance, you could head straight and take a short hike up to the top of the vast Cobabe Canyon. Or you can head directly left at the top to take you through some perfectly spaced aspens for some memorable tree-skiing.
Another find is right off of the first lift below Timberline Lodge (lift name here). When you get to the top of the lift, take a right to begin exploring Powder Country. Feel free to explore well past the lifts because the Powder Shuttle runs all day to pick up the Powder Country skiers and boarders. Make sure to check to make sure that the Powder Shuttle is running for the day before beginning this trek since it could be closed due to weather.
