Spring is here! Happy spring everyone! The pollen is here and cold weather has not left, ho hum ho hum!!! So much for that. We need everyone in the chapter too pull all loose ends together for our Chick N Pickin event. Some folks were not present when we drew up the list of food. It s very important we have everyone on board and know who will be responsible for what. If you did not sign up on the food list, you need to be at the gathering or call Georgiana @ 540-353-3302. The Brennan's, and the Harrison's have volunteered to do the games with our help. Shirts ordered should be here next week so we plan to distribute them before May. Cof- Besides a cold start Saturday's breakfast was great. fee and food was in abundance for all. John and three others road their bikes. We had 11 in attendance. Our next gathering is April 17 th. We hope to see everyone there. Love and hugs, Keith & Georgiana

Welcome Spring Our breakfast ride takes place first Saturday each month. Spring has arrived so looking for more folks to turn out for some good food and great ride afterwards. Anyone wishing to come along is welcome, check with our CD for time and place. Mickey & Margie, COY Breakfast ride to the Golden Corral in Lynchburg!

CHAPTER V EDUCATOR BIKE SAFETY It s not just about you, it s your bike too!! (le re is off my 2013 F6B, right re is from 1996 GL1500) Maintain Your Tires More than just glance at your res on your bike, you should look them over 100% for more than just tread depth. I never would have seen the cords showing on my re had I not put it on the center stand. Actually had about three spots like that on my rear re at only 11,000 miles. My front re s ll has another 5,000 or more le on it. Also don t wait un l you think you might need res, check them on a regular basis for things that may be stuck in them or irregular wear pa erns that might require them to be replaced sooner. Put the bike on the centerstand and rotate the re and very closely look it over. Go ahead and check the brakes while you re there. (I ll cover those in another ar cle) The re on the right went from looking like the le one with just a small spot to the large strip within about 300 miles, it happens fast once it gets to the so er rubber that is inside the re. Air pressure is also very important especially when the temperature is changing like it does this me of year, it causes res to lose some pressure. Having low pressure can make the bike harder to handle and cause bad wear pa erns to develop on the res. Remember, it s all about safety! Jonathan Whitworth, Virginia Chapter V Chapter Educator

Member Enhancement Wayne Whitworth GWRRA The fun has begun! Chapter V members have been busy getting around and about to different functions, not only Chapter Vs rides and activities but neighboring chapters as well. Members have visited Roanoke Chapter Ks Chili Cookoff, Salems Chapter X Spaghetti dinner, Chapters Ks T-clock and seminars. Seminars are great for learning new things plus as a refresher for what we may have forgotten or just not thought about lately. Not only for the very important realization of safety for riding but just good information or the FUN stuff that many of us enjoy. In my experience all chapters are different in some way or another and that s what makes it interesting to me. Many don t have discussion of Chapter business at their gatherings at all. Rider Education, upcoming events, motorcycle stories along with food, fun and money! I hate routine things that can lead to being in a rut. In many respects, I don t like change for the sake of change, and feel there needs to be a viable reason. Sort of like being organized. Being organized is not just having a place/procedure for something but a reason for it. Kinda what Team Riding is about. All aspects have a reason for the leader, tailgunner, stagger or single file, commands, parking procedures, etc. Chapter organization has been years in development to achieve a balance and workable format that is fun as well as functional. Much is covered in the Officers Handbook, OCP or GWU seminars. Look closely at the latest brochure for benefits and rewards for being a GWRRA member. If you analyze the price, it s a very good value. I did not for years realize that the initial member ship includes a minimal Roadside assistance package. We will plan a New Member orientation seminar that is good for old members as well. Benefits have changed over the years along with some mentioned that you may have forgotten about. If you d like to carry membership info and applications in your vehicles, especially your motorcycle, we have some available at gatherings. You may also contact National Home Office at 1-800-843-9460 to request membership brochures, hangers and other info to share with potential new members. Just ask for a Promo pack and they will be glad to ship some to you once you give them your membership number to verify your address.

GWRRA Virginia District Times MAR/APR 2016 District Education April in Northern Virginia, interesting. Well the Riding season is in full gear mode. Notice I said FULL GEAR. Yes, I meant that. This weird weather is just that, weird and certainly unpredictable. So check your bike out fully, check yourself out fully then go ride. So while you are out riding it s a perfect time to tell others. Tell other s that you ride. Tell others how you ride. Tell others where you ride. Tell others WHY you ride. And tell other that you ride for the joy of riding. This coming MAY is Motorist Awareness month as well as Motorcycle Safety month. So please get out the signs, yourself and your motorcycle for display to the public. We need to stress to the folks out there that yes, we really are different then the cars, trucks and buses. Please feel free to print out these Tri-folds and carry them in your vehicles to hand out. It s what we should ALL do you know. These NEW tri-folds look AWESOME. Well now you ve done it you ve made this Air Force Veteran MAD but as always it s in a good way. Have a great riding season & be smart & safe. The Purpose of the Motorist Awareness Division is to bring attention to the need to have drivers made more aware of the Motorcyclists that use the Road ways and Byways of this Great Nation. Motorist Awareness, is what I do and I love it. So I can still handle little 3 & 4 year olds to Executives of companies. I can tailor my presentation to fit any need. So please email me any suggestions, comments or names of groups that might like a nice MAD presentation and I even bring my Gold Wing to sit on for photos ops. William G. GWRRA Virginia District Times MAR/APR 2016 Region Director Thoughts Happy SPRING everyone. It decided to be winter again for a couple of days here in West Tennessee, but I think we have turned the corner. At least I hope we are through with old man winter for now. You know it is Spring when Tennessee has their Spring Fling Rally/Convention. They have moved back to Pigeon Forge this year and all indications point to a FUN time in the Smokies. Alan & I will be there and we hope to see you there too. Everyone needs to go take a look at the new Region N website. John Skinner, our webmaster, has reworked the site and it looks great! Take time to go to www.regionn. org and take a look at our new look and feel. I know you will be impressed. We d love to hear your comments and/or suggestions. A reminder, once again, make plans to join us on May 20 21 for the Region Ride N at Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, Virginia. We will provide a BBQ lunch on Saturday for a nominal charge. (You must pre-register in order to purchase the meal. We need a head count in advance.) A registration form can be found later in this newsletter or on our website at www.region-n.org under the events tab. If you weren t able to get a cabin (they are all full), there are a couple of motels in town that are clean and close to the park. The Econo Lodge is at 1420 N. Main Street in Marion, Virginia. Their phone number is 276-783-6031. They are offering 2 double beds or 1 queen bed for $69.99 +tax a night and a king bed for $79.99 + tax a night. America s Best Value Inn is offering their rooms for $64.99 + tax a night. They are located right next door to the Econo Lodge at 1424 N. Main Street. Their phone number is 276-378-0481. If you camp, you can reserve a spot in the park by logging on to ReserveAmerica.com or by phone at 1-800- 933-PARK (7275). We are counting on you to make this event a success and we look forward to seeing you there. Just a little about the Region N Rally/Couples Selection in November. Not much is finalized yet, but it will be held November 4th & 5th in Johnson City, Tennessee. Johnson City offers some absolutely gorgeous riding country. The colors the first of November, I have been assured, are spectacular. More details coming VERY SOON. Stay tuned and start making plans to come support your District Couple on their next step. You will also want to ride one of the 12 pre-routed rides that begin and end at the Holiday Inn Johnson City, which just happens to be our event location. I am really excited about the plans made so far. Stay tuned. Until next time; ride safe, ride often, and most important HAVE FUN! Glenda & Alan Keough Region N Directors
