Florida Ave, Tampa Past Events 2/24/2017 Basketball Game Watch/ New Perspective Donation A nice crowd of club members attended the Ohio State/Michigan t basketball game watch, AND WE WON! It was a nail biter. At halftime the Suncoast Alumni Club presented Tyson Gentry a $500 donation, the result of money raised during the fall football season. Tyson thanks everyone for their generosity. 2/25/2017 National Association for College Admission Counseling Fair Special thanks to Nancy Hayes for participating in the college fair at the Florida State Fairgrounds Expo Hall. The Ohio State booth was the go to booth. We had a line of students looking for information the entire afternoon. 3/6/2017 Archie Griffin 2017 Celebrity Golf Classic The Suncoast Alumni Club along with the Treasure Coast club and the Sarasota-Manatee club were in attendance to help raise money for the Boys and Girls Club. Special thanks to President Jim Smith of The Ohio State University Alumni Association for including us. 3/14/2017 Buck-I-SERV A record attendance of 20 Buck-I-SERV students and 20 club members got together to have a fun filled night at All You Can Eat Wing Night. The two student groups made up the Pinellas County Sea Grant Trip and Florida Aquatic Trip. Thanks to those students for making a better environment here in Tampa Bay. 3/28/2017 Student Night Orientation Antonio Serano of the Ohio State University Admissions Office hosted a dinner and Ohio State orientation session for students and their parents that have been accepted for the 2017 Fall Semester from the Tampa Bay area. Bill Church, Brian McCaffrey and Ken Jaffe made up a panel to offer personal experiences from their Ohio State days. The board will be meeting in April to decide the awards for the 2017 Suncoast Alumni Club scholarships.

Upcoming Events 4/15/2017 Ohio State Buckeyes Football Game Watch Spring Game Spring Game Watch Saturday, 12:30pm kick off Quaker Steak & Lube Mark your calendars: The 2017 version of Ohio State's annual spring scrimmage is set for April 15 at Ohio Stadium. Join us for the preview of the 2017 football season. You can see the fruits of the team's Spring labors in the annual Spring game. O Brien s Irish Pub Not an official game watch but O Brien s will have TV s available to watch the game. We are looking for volunteers to help out with game watch events at O Briens for the 2017 football season. Help keep O Briens the premier location for Ohio State football viewing in the area. Please contact Ken Jaffe at tampaclub @osu.edu if you can volunteer. 4/22/2017 Great American Cleanup 2017 Saturday, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Davis Island by Tampa General Hospital Celebrate Earth Day with Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful! Join fellow alumni club members to celebrate Earth Day by keeping our paradise litter free and continuing to pay forward in our community. Join us as we clean our adopted shoreline on Davis Island, next to Tampa General Hospital at the corner of Columbia Dr and Arbor Place. It's a great opportunity to get together with fellow Buckeyes. We will start at 9am and be done by 11am. The more the merrier! We will provide trash bags, gloves, hand sanitizer and water. Coffee and donuts will also be provided. 4/29/2017 Suncoast Alumni Club Month of Service Event Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. At Metropolitan Ministries, 120 E. Ross Ave, Tampa Please join us to help those less fortunate families in the Tampa Bay community by giving a couple hours of your time. We will assist in lunch time activities at the Tampa Metropolitan Ministries. There is no better way to "Pay Forward" than to give back to those in the community that need our assistance. Our Spring Buck-I-SERV was fantastic with a group of 20 students and over 20 club members. Come join us for a fun evening and find out. Buck-I- SERV community service and civic engagement provide students with a challenging and engaging opportunity to lead and learn through direct service experiences. We invite you to join us for the next Buck I SERV Wing Night! 5/20/2017 Suncoast Alumni Club Student Send Off Event Saturday, 2:30 pre-game Alumni club picnic, 4:10 p.m. game time Tampa Bay Rays baseball vs. New York Yankees Alumni Night The Suncoast Alumni Club will be hosting all of the local students who will be attending The Ohio State University this fall in the 2017 Freshmen class. The event will include a pregame tailgate in the main parking lot at Tropicana Field. Food and beverages will be provided starting at 2:30 under the Ohio State tent. 7/15/2017 Suncoast Alumni Club Annual Banquet Saturday, 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Jackson's Bistro, Waterfront Room, 601 S. Scholarship Update The Ohio State University has notified students of their acceptance to the Ohio State University for Fall Semester 2017. We were notified of twenty students from our area that have been accepted to The Ohio State University. Invitations have been sent to these students to apply for 2017 Suncoast Alumni Club scholarships. The 2 nd annual Suncoast Club Student Night orientation was held at Maggiano s in Tampa. Students learned about first year experience at Ohio State, financial aid and scholarships, question and answer session with alumni panel and learned about Columbus, Ohio. We are excited about the scholarship candidates for this year. The scholarship committee headed by Brian McCaffrey will be meeting to review the applications and award scholarships. Please watch for the announcement of award recipients in the summer edition of the Suncoast Alumni Club newsletter. The Ohio State University Alumni Association Student-Alumni Council The Suncoast Alumni Club has made a donation to the Student Alumni Council and received tickets for a drawing with the prize being 2 season Football Tickets for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Should one of our tickets be drawn as the winner, the Suncoast Club will have a drawing to give away the season tickets. If you are a 2016-2017 Suncoast Club member, you will be automatically entered.there will be no purchase required. Please consider a donation of whatever amount you feel comfortable with to the Student-Alumni Council. For information go to https://www.osu.edu/alumni/communities/sac/ New Perspective Foundation 1 st Annual Golf Scramble The Suncoast Alumni Club has made a donation to the New Perspective Foundation. The Suncoast Alumni was recognized for this donation with a sign at Hole #6 of the golf tournament. The fund raising event was very successful in providing funds to continue the great work that the foundation does for families of individuals with spinal cord injuries. Paying Forward An Ohio State Tradition Pay it forward is an expression for describing the beneficiary of a good deed repaying it to others instead of to the original benefactor. The history of the expression goes back to ancient Greece, described by the likes of Benjamin Franklin and Ralph Waldo Emerson. But we most remember it as misquoted by our beloved Woody Hayes, You can pay back only seldom. You can always pay forward, and you must pay line for line, deed for deed, and cent for cent." He also shortened the (mis)quotation into "You can never pay back;; but you can always pay forward" and variants. Please participate in our Month of Service events: Great American Cleanup, April 22 nd and Metropolitan Ministries, April 29 th. As a part of The Ohio State University Alumni Association we embrace its core values. Game Watch - 2017 Due to large number of alumni and Ohio State supporters in the Tampa Bay area, the Suncoast Alumni Club will be looking during the next couple months to expand the number of game watch locations for the 2017 football season. Please email and suggestions to tampaclub@osu.edu. There are club requirements that any venue must meet to be considered and there must be club members willing to provide game day support at any new location. The club is also looking for members to assist in game day activities and membership support for Quaker Steak & Lube and O Briens.
