2011 12 Level 1 Officials Certification Test Questions 1 25 are TRUE or FALSE 1- The minimum required protective equipment for all divisions 18-and-under and below is: HECC-approved helmet and facemask, mouthguard, gloves, elbow pads, and knee/shin pads. 2- A Minor Penalty for Interference with the Goaltender may be assessed whether the goaltender is inside or outside his goal creas.) 3- A team roster submitted with fifteen (15) skaters and one (1) goaltender would be deemed legal. 4- If a player leaves his feet and causes an opponent to trip or fall, either by use of his stick or body, a Minor Penalty shall be called, even if the player first makes contact with the puck. 5- For a Misconduct Penalty is assessed to the goalkeeper, only a player on the rink at the time of the infraction may serve the penalty. 6- The penalty options for spearing or attempting to spear an opponent are Major Penalty plus a Game Misconduct or a Match Penalty. 7- If, during the course of a Penalty Shot or shootout attempt, the defending goaltender deliberately removes his helmet or facemask, the referee shall award an automatic goal 8- Any player that receives three penalties (not including misconduct penalties) in one game shall immediately be removed from the rink and assessed a Game Ejection Penalty 9- The face-off location after a stoppage of play caused by a player committing a penalty in the attacking zone is the center-rink face-off spot 10- Face-offs may be conducted only at the five (5) recognized face-off spots on the rink. 11- A player guilty of head-butting shall be assessed an automatic Match Penalty 12- A legal change may be made from the players bench at any time during play, provided that the player or players leaving the rink surface shall be within 10 feet (10') of the players bench and out of the play before the change is made 13- A Misconduct Penalty shall be assessed to any player who throws his stick, equipment, or any object out of the playing surface in protest of an official s decision. 14- A hand pass to a teammate is legal so long as the pass is originated and completed entirely within the defending zone. 15- A Minor Penalty shall be assessed to any player who shoots the puck (non-deflected) out of play from his defending zone, whether the action was intentional or not 16- A Minor Penalty for Delay of Game shall be assessed to a goalkeeper who holds the puck in any manner which, in the opinion of the referee, causes an unnecessary stoppage of play, whether the goalkeeper is inside or outside the crease. 17- At the discretion of the referee, a Double-Minor Penalty may be assessed to any player deemed guilty of High-sticking, provided no injury to the opponent occurs. 18- During a delayed penalty, if the non-offending team inadvertently scores into its own net, the goal shall be disallowed. 19- A Minor Penalty for Unsportsmanlike Conduct shall be assessed to any player who intentionally shoots or knocks away

a stick or piece of equipment from an opponent attempting to retrieve it. 20- If a Minor and a Major Penalty are assessed (non-coincidental) to the same player at the same stoppage of play, the Major Penalty shall be served first 21- When a player has possession and control of the puck in the attacking zone, without anyone to pass between himself and the opposing goal, is prevented a reasonable scoring opportunity as a result of an infraction committed by the defending team while the offending team's goalkeeper has been removed from the rink, a Penalty Shot shall be awarded to the non-offending player in possession and control of the puck 22- The attacking team s center shall be required to place his stick on the rink surface first for all face-offs not conducted on the center red line. 23- For all Match Penalties, both referees are required to file a written game report to the USARS District Referee-in-Chief within 72 hours following the game 24- A goalkeeper may continue to play with the paddle portion of a broken stick until the next stoppage of play, or until a replacement stick has been legally handed to him by a teammate 25- A Minor Penalty for Delay of Game shall be assessed to any player NOT taking a face-off who does not remain stationary during the face-off procedure after warning by the Referee.
