Carpooling If anyone is interested in carpooling with other parents we are starting a signup list. Simply put your name, phone number, class your child attends and area you live in. We will put the names together and give out the contact information; you can then contact each other and work out the details. Fall Registration Welcome back to all the students who took the summer off, it has been a great August with the sun finally making an appearance. It also looks like it will be a great September. This is just a reminder to get into the dojo as soon as possible to get your name on our class list; it is looking like there may be some waiting lists in some of the classes this year. Zone Training #1 Date: September 11 th, 2011 Times: 10:00-12:00 General training 12:30 4:00 Competition Specific training Place: Cost: Courtenay Recreation Center, Lewis Park, Courtenay BC $10 for half day, $20 for full day This is the first Zone training of the season; the Provincials are in November so we need to get training. This training is for Orange Belts and up and 10 year olds and up only Zone Training #2 Date: October 2 nd, 2011 Times: 10:00-12:00 General training 12:30 4:00 Competition Specific training Place: Shima Karate School, Nanaimo This is the last Zone training before the Zone Eliminations, it is also for 10 year olds and up, Orange belts and up only. Next Grading October 7 th, 2011 6:15pm all Juniors Or/Bl & under 7:30pm for all Green & up teens and adults Make sure that all your books are turned in by the Thursday before the grading. Bring your sparring gear. Don t be late. 3

Shima Karate Schools Shiai, Corn Roast, Barbeque and Campover Date: September 17 th, 2011 (put your name on the signup list) Times: 2:00pm, come on in. 3:00pm, Fun Shiai 4:00pm, Student Group Picture 5:00pm, Corn Roast, 6:30pm, Great Zucchini Race Place: Brannen Lake Group Campsite, 4220 Biggs Rd., Nanaimo Bring: Potluck, bring a side dish we supply all the corn, burgers and hotdogs Camping: Optional $12.50 per adult, $5 per child Picnic: FREE, Everyone Welcome Bring your Zucchini for the annual Great Zucchini Race Bring your karate uniform and join in the Fun Shiai We want to have a group picture with everyone after the Shiai If anyone can bring some firewood please let us know. Bring any foot balls, soccer balls etc Door Prizes: Sword give away, If parents can help get door prize donations from other businesses it would be appreciated Bring your guitar for the evening sing along. Zucchini Race Remember to go into the grocery store and get the perfect Zucchini for Shima s annual Great Zucchini Race. We will supply the wheels and all the stuff to decorate your zucchini, you supply the zucchini and the creativity to make it look and race like a winner. The race starts about 6:30 Weapons Classes start October 8 th, signup now!!! 4

When: Saturday, Sept 24th Time: 2:00 4:00pm Where: Shima Karate, Nanaimo Who: Ages 8-11 Cost: $25 Shima students & family $35 Non Shima Students Summer Training Camp 2012 The IKGA Summer Training Camp this year will be held at Calgary from May 18th to May 21st, 2012 As more information comes available I will pass it on to you, but make plans now for those dates. Saiko Shihan is coming from Japan to teach this year and it will have attendees from all over the world. This is a great opportunity to train under one of the greatest Masters that is alive today. 5

Remember, make the time to be there, Shihan Gardecki is the one who grades you for your black belt, show her how well you are doing. Paint Ball anyone?? On September 18 th the Sunday morning after the corn roast we will be having a fun & friendly paint ball competition. Get your name on the signup list. It is for older teens and adults only. Central Island Paintball 1845 Nanaimo River Road. Nanaimo, BC - Cost $35 - Full Suit (Mask, Goggles, Clothing etc.) - 2 Hours - Paintball gun (if needed) - 300 Paintballs (5 cents per extra paintball needed) Time: 3:00pm 5:00pm 6
