FULL NOISE University of Wollongong s Formula SAE Team Newsletter March 2016 Welcome to the 2016 Campaign! Welcome back fans and sponsors to another exciting campaign year for the UOW FSAE team. The team had a brilliant 2015 that featured excellent success and publicity, with the 2015 campaign car, Lucy, breaking into the top 10 as the team secured 8 th position at the Australasian competition. The success of Lucy could not have been possible without all the support from our outstanding sponsors and fans. The construction of the new 2016 car is taking shape in exciting stages and our highly enthusiastic team have been working tirelessly on finalising component design and manufacture procedures. Over the last three months there has been lots of brilliant publicity for UOW-FSAE, as the team has been keeping busy with various open days and external events, as well as the internal logistics and construction phases of the 2016 campaign. Design for 2016 Campaign Sponsor Spotlight This year, the design of the competition car focuses on refining and improving many to all aspects of the established platform to date. Many minor but crucial design improvements mean an evolution in an already tried and proven successful overall package to make way for a complete redesign of the entire car for next year s campaign. Technical update An update from our Technical Director: Todd Dempsey As the 2016 racer's design was completed throughout February, the team has already begun manufacturing the chassis. The CNC notched tubing had arrived in early February and the Jigs were cut shortly thereafter. The chassis is now 90% welded and we are right on schedule for the build. Material orders have been completed, and are ready for purchasing. In the mean-time, UOW-FSAE's Technical Division are focusing on developing the required part drawings for external and internal manufacture, and maintaining the 2015 racer "Lucy" between track days and test sessions. As well as the progress in construction of the 2016 car, the team has been hard at work resurrecting the racing simulator and now have it in great working condition. This simulator is a vital asset with our driver training and promotional purposes and is a hit with the team members and public alike.
