SkiWelt News Winter 2008-09 SkiWelt Brixen im Thale: New 8-seater gondola lift From the new valley station up to the Westendorf Choralpe Descent: 5.5 km with 1,020 m difference in altitude Starting in the 2008/09 winter season, a conveyor belt and drag lift will take skiers and boarders from the end of the ski run in the vicinity of the Brixen bathing lake directly to the new valley station. This is being built on the opposite side of the road from the existing sunfacing lift station. The two buildings will be connected by a bridge over the Brixental main road. For the first time in the world!!! The drag lift called the Sonnenlift is solar-powered. The solar panels are fitted to the south-facing side of the new valley station. The energy produced means that the lift can be powered 100% by solar energy. Even in bad weather, the facility will have enough stored energy to be capable of operating only by solar power. SkiWelt Hopfgarten-Itter-Kelchsau: REAL hot the new 8-seater cable car with heated seats! A highlight at SkiWelt the first cable car equipped with heated seats! The new lift transports skiers from the middle lift station straight up to the Hohe Salve in just 5.67 minutes! It replaces the 1-seater chairlift from Rigi on the Hohe Salve. The 3-seater chairlift from the middle lift station to Rigi will continue to run. SkiWelt Westendorf: New 8-seater Choralmbahn gondola lift: From Windau station up to the Choralpe - this replaces the 1-seater chairlift (No.112) and goes to the new mountain station.

SkiWelt S Ö L L REALly orange...is the new detachable 6-seater chair lift Siller-Keat, additionally equipped with a heated seat and a hood. SkiWelt Scheffau: The Jochstuben reservoir is being extended from approx. 70,000 m³ to 170,000 m³. The artificial snowmaking capacity is thus being increased from 250 l/sec to 410 l/sec. In Scheffau there are in total 150 snowmakers, of which 92 are lances and 58 canons. SkiWelt Ellmau: Full complement of snowmakers with towers and lances on the Hartkaiservalley descent to the halfway station and on the blue "Köglbahn" ski run. Construction of a new fill pipe from the valley to the Rübezahl pumping station. Improvement by 50 l/sec at the Rübezahl pumping station, also with new equipment up to the mountain. SkiWelt Events in Winter 2008-09 SkiWelt Winter Opening in Söll: From 12th to 14th December 2008 with live bands 12.12. 2008 - Söller Zwoa-Light-Parallel Race (Night slalom) (www.wilderkaiser.info) The Die Jungen Zillertaler get the weekend off to a rousing start on the opening evening (12.12.08) with familiar pieces such as Auf der Bruck trara or Tannenzapfenzupfen. On Saturday one new highlight after another adds to the action and ambiance till deep into the night: after tough ski tests in Hochsöll, the atmosphere on the Saturday evening then reaches boiling point even if the thermometer outside is registering quite different temperatures. The band Frontal, recognised as the best party band in Germany in 2007, intensifies the mood until finally the Hermes House Band with party favourites such as Che Sera Sera and I will survive brings everything to a mighty climax. Entrance Friday: Free! Entrance Saturday: Advance purchase 11.00 On the door 13.00 Attractive package deals from 119.00 per person (2-day ski pass, 2 nights accommodation, entrance to the party tent) to be found at www.skiwelt.at! The best slalom skiers in the world use this FIS race, with arguably the strongest possible field for a normal event, as an opportunity for a last test under race conditions before the Hahnenkamm Slalom on the Ganslernhang slope. The 21st international FIS Alpenrosenpokal takes place on Thursday, 22nd January on the floodlit night ski run in the centre of Westendorf. The programme: - 6 pm: start of the first heat - 8.30 pm: start of the second heat - followed by victory ceremony --- Entrance: 4.00 31st January 2009 Mountains in Motion At the valley station of the Bergbahn Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser A concert event of superlatives - with artists from the contemporary pop and rock scene! 13th February 2009 The Jump & Freeze in Westendorf celebrates its 13th event. All the major TV channels carry regular reports at carnival time on this fun event in the Tyrolean mountains. In line with the media attention there has been a constant increase in the numbers of participants and spectators. We are again expecting numerous participants to jump into the pool filled with 20,000 litres of ice-cold water, watched by nearly 10,000 spectators.
