http://www.doralresort.com/ Five championship courses stretch out for over 48,000 yards of premier golf. Try your hand at the expertly designed Jim McLean Signature Course or experience the part-course, part-work-of-art Great White Course, as envisioned by Greg Norman. And, you can always step to the challenge of the infamous Blue Monster and see why the pros love to play here.
The Courses The McLean Signature Course The Jim McLean Signature Course is the third premier course at Doral, along with the TPC Blue Monster and the Great White. It presents a variety of challenges that include three of the toughest starting holes in golf, a series of phenomenal par 3s, and The Bermuda Triangle of the 13th through 15th holes. Five sets of tees allow both novice and champion golfers to decide how difficult they want the course to be - but no matter where they start, they will have earned a real sense of accomplishment every time they finish. Additional bonus-the Jim McLean Signature Course is located just minutes away from the resort:
The Gold Course PGA Tour legend Raymond Floyd recently redesigned this course to follow a traditional Florida layout, incorporating gently contoured greens, strategic bunkering and water surrounding 16 holes. The course features narrow, treelined fairways and finishes with a dramatic par-4 island green on the 18th hole. This course hosted the 1999 PGA Qualifying School finals. The greens were renovated in Summer '09 to feature Tif Eagle Bermuda Grass.
The Great White Course The legendary Great White Course is enjoyable for the high handicap player while maintaining the integrity of the course for the accomplished player. A Greg Norman Signature Course, the 7,171-yard, par-72 Great White Course is the only golf course of its kind in the Southeastern United States that utilizes coquina -- crushed shells -- as the primary design element on every hole. In designing the Great White, Norman blended strategically demanding fairways with hundreds of palm trees. He then laid out the course in a manner where water comes into play on 14 of the 18 holes, which makes for a challenging, but picturesque Great White Golf Course. Host to the PGA TOUR Franklin Templeton Shark Shootout in 2000, the Great White was rated as the best new golf course of 2000 by the National Golf Foundation. On December 6, 2005, Doral Golf Resort & Spa unveiled the New Look Great White Golf Course. Highlighting the enhancements to the Great White Golf Course was the re-design of the 6th and 15th holes, as well as all bunkers. The course also received new landscaping, as thousands of native grasses were planted around the course, while cart paths were installed at strategic locations throughout the course for improved drainage.
The TPC Blue Monster at Doral The TPC Blue Monster at Doral Golf Resort & Spa*, home of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship, has hosted prestigious PGA TOUR events for over fifty years. In fact, virtually every great name in golf has had a moment of glorious personal triumph on this world-class track. Originally designed by Dick Wilson, golfers won't find a more challenging or spectacular golf course. At 7,125 yards from the tournament tees, and with a series of strategically placed bunkers, both length and finesse are needed to score well on this historic course. Renown golf course architect, Gil Hanse has been retained to work directly with Donald J. Trump and the PGA leadership to enhance and renovate the Blue Monster, making it one of the most famous golf courses in the world and home to a PGA event every year since its opening. Consequently, the Blue Monster features long fairways, undulating green, a deep Bermuda rough and a unique assortment of water hazards. The famous 18th hole, with its signature fountain, was ranked by GOLF Magazine as one of the Top 100 Holes in the World and by Golfweek Magazine's Best Courses You Can Play.
Renovations to the Blue Monster
New look for Blue Monster Trump National Doral's signature golf course is more challenging and fan friendlier The par-3 15th hole on the Blue Monster at Trump National Doral has a new lake (Trump National Doral )
DORAL Donald Trump not only thinks big, he also respects golf's tradition, which tells you all you need to know about the changes being made to the Blue Monster course at Trump National Doral. When the PGA Tour arrives in March for the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship, the players will find a longer, more challenging layout that is true to the original design and the fans will find better viewing and better access to the players and holes they want to see. There are new lakes, which improve drainage but also increase the risks of shooting for the pins. Previously, water was in play on six holes. Now players will contend with water on 14 holes. Fairways were built up using fill from the lakes, which also was used to create mounding around tees and greens to give spectators a clear view of the play on two or more holes from one spot. Moving some of the tee boxes and greens also improved the spectating and connected many of the holes. For example, mounding by the 16th tee lets you also watch shots to the par-3 15th hole's green, which juts into a new lake. No. 7's green now sits on a lake and you can easily get to the 11th hole from there. No. 1, which was a reachable par 5, is 80 yards longer with a new green. (To see the changes, go to trumpgolfdoral.com and click on "The Transformation.") The signature 18th hole is virtually unchanged aside from some new palm trees many storm-damaged and exotic trees were removed and nearly 5,000 new ones were planted on the course. Designer Gil Hanse and his right-hand man Jim Wagner made significant changes to at least a dozen holes and worked closely with Trump, who is a low handicapper and owns a number of golf resorts. "A lot of the ideas were Mr. Trump's and Gil and Jim loved his ideas," said Darrin Helfrick, the general manager for golf at Doral. "This started as a renovation and it turned into a redesign." The resort and the Blue Monster opened in 1962. Changes had been made to both over the years, but nothing on the scale that Trump has done. The developer bought the resort, which was in bankruptcy, for $150 million on June 11, 2012. Work on the Blue Monster began on April 1, a few weeks after Tiger Woods won the Cadillac Championship, and has proceeded smoothly, with the course set to officially open for play on Dec. 13. You might want to start dropping hints now for your holiday gift wish list, because Helfrick said the greens fee to play the Blue Monster will be $450, plus $50 for a caddie.
Trump was so pleased with Hanse's work that the designer will also re-do the resort's Red course, with construction slated to begin in December, and the Gold course starting in May. Helfrick said Trump's plan was to put $200 million into the resort, but that amount has grown to $250 million. Part of the reason is that when Trump would come to check on the construction, he'd suggest something new. For example, the main building is being dramatically upgraded. There's a new locker room, the golf shop is going from 4,000 square feet to 8,000 square feet and a BLT Prime restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and provide a view of the course. A new veranda overlooking the 1st tee and the 18th green with 8,039 square feet outside and 7,230 square feet in the ballroom inside is ideal for corporate functions and weddings.
Turnberry Isle Soffer Course Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., Turnberry Isle Miami s 18-hole championship courses The Soffer and Miller Courses - have been re-interpreted by golf icon Raymond Floyd. With contoured fairways, clever doglegs, rolling greens, perfectly carved bunkers, strategically placed water features and a variety of elevation changes to challenge and enthrall casual golfers and enthusiasts alike, Turnberry Isle Miami is a showcase of the best in Florida golf.
