Brooklyn Boulevard (County Road 152) Phase I Project Partners Project Lead Other Project Partners include

Brooklyn Boulevard (County Road 152) Phase I Project Purpose: The proposed reconstruction and streetscape improvements will improve roadway and intersection safety, enhance traffic operations and provide improved bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

Background: 2013 Corridor Study Study partners included: City of Brooklyn Center, Hennepin County, MnDOT, Metro Transit and Three Rivers Park District Completed in 2013 Study Limits from 49 th Avenue to TH 694 Two public open houses held for public input

Background: 2013 Corridor Study Study Purpose To set a long term vision for the Brooklyn Boulevard Corridor including: Roads (traffic and safety) Bike and pedestrian facilities Transit Streetscaping

Background: 2013 Corridor Study Study provided recommendations consistent with the long term vision Study developed a preferred concept layout and implementation plan with 13 potential projects

Progress since Corridor Study TH 100 Bridge re decking completed by MnDOT in 2015 Re striping / lane reconfiguration south of 49 th Avenue completed by Hennepin County (three lane section with Bike Lanes)

Progress since Corridor Study Using implementation plan from study, the City of Brooklyn Center split the corridor into two segments for construction (two phases) Phase I 49th Avenue to north of Bass Lake Road Phase II North of Bass Lake Road to TH 694 In 2014, the City applied for and received federal funding for Phase I as a 2018 construction project

Lilac Drive & South TH 100 Ramp Improvements New access to Brooklyn Boulevard from Lilac Dr New traffic signal including ADA, APS and FYA Removal of free right turn (right turn at new intersection) Tighten free right (vehicles travel at lower speeds)

55 th Ave Improvements Signal reconstruction including ADA, APS and FYA Removal of free right turns Realignment of Frontage Road to provide greater intersection spacing Relocate metro transit bus stop to intersection

Bass Lake Road (County Road 10) Improvements Signal reconstruction including ADA, APS and FYA Dual southbound left turn lanes Removal of free right turns Pedestrian median refuge

Property Impacts Phase I Property impacts identified during 2013 corridor study: Between 49 th Ave and 51 st Ave for trail and sidewalk construction West of Brooklyn Boulevard at 55 th Ave for Frontage Road re alignment Slivers on east side of Brooklyn Boulevard (north of TH 100)

Property Impacts 49 th to 51 st Ave Easement for proposed trail and sidewalk

Property Impacts Easement acquisition process Introduction letters will be sent to impacted property owners in July Letters contain information on the right of way process and include a contact information questionnaire and preliminary property sketches Appraisers will contact property owners directly to assess property impacts Right of way agents will arrange on site meetings to present offers

City Project 51 st Avenue Project will be constructed concurrently with Brooklyn Boulevard Phase I Project limits: 51 st Avenue from Brooklyn Boulevard to Xerxes Avenue Project improvements Roadway reconstruction including curb and gutter Sidewalk construction / reconstruction Watermain and Sanitary Sewer replacement Standard City assessment process to be followed for City project City Project
