Despite the losses, UAH remains tied for eighth place with 12 league points this season off a 6-14-0 conference record. The Blue and White will be away from competition this upcoming weekend before traveling to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan where UAH will take on Lake Superior State in a conference tilt on Feb. 13-14. Junior Jack Prince scored the lone goal of the weekend for the Chargers, posting his fifth tally of the season in the second period of Saturday s game. Prince now has 12 points (5g-7a) this season and 29 (14g-15a) in his career. Sophomore Carmine Guerriero saw his season save percentage dip to.926 after the weekend series at Michigan Tech, where he allowed nine goals and made a total of 56 saves in just over 64 minutes on the ice. Guerriero s save percentage ranks 19th in the nation and third in the WCHA. UAH points leader Max McHugh ranks third among all WCHA freshmen with 17 points (7g-10a) in his first collegiate season. Over the Chargers four series in January, McHugh has registered five points from two goals and three assists. His point total is the most of any Chargers since the 2010-11 season when Matt Baxter accumulated 22 for the season. Freshman Brandon Parker leads the Chargers with 11 assists this season, which rank tied for third amongst WCHA rookies. Parker has registered an assist in three of the past four series including a pair of helpers against Alaska Anchorage (Jan. 3). The last time UAH had someone finish with 11 assists or more was the 2010-11 season when three players had more than 11. The UAH rookies lead all classes on the roster with 47 points this season from 14 goals and 33 assists, led by McHugh with 17. Parker is second amongst the first-year players, followed by Brennan Saulnier (1-7--8), Richard Buri (3-1--4), Josh Kestner (2-2--4) and Cody Champagne (1-2--3). Second-year head coach Mike Corbett has his team at a 7-18-3 overall record and 6-14-0 in WCHA games, which are win totals that already surpassed last year s marks of 2-35-1 overall and 2-25-1 in the league. The Chargers are one of three teams in the NCAA to improve by five wins since the 2013-14 campaign. This is the first season since a 12-18-3 mark in the 2009-10 season for UAH to win at least seven games. Sophomore Brandon Carlson leads the nation with 70 blocks after getting in the way of four shots at Michigan Tech. Carlson headlines a defense that ranks third in the country with 434 blocks, as four Chargers are in the top-75 shot blockers in the NCAA. Frank Misuraca is second with 46, followed by Graeme Strukoff (41), Parker (40) and Champagne (34) in the UAH top five. Seawolves University of Alaska Anchorage Alaska Anchorage concludes its four-game road slate at No 1-ranked Minnesota State in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series. This will be the 76th and 77th all-time meeting between the teams and the only regular scheduled series this season after playing two series last season. The Mavericks lead the all-time series record, 40-25-10, while the Seawolves enter the series with a two-game winning streak against MSU. UAA swept MSU, 2-1, 3-1 at home on Jan. 10-11, 2014 after the Mavericks swept in Minnesota, 3-2, 7-3 on Nov. 29-30, 2013. MSU leads 7-2-2 in the last 11 meetings. UAA s last win on the road vs. MSU was Nov. 25, 2011 (5-4). In addition to facing the ranked Mavericks, the Seawolves will have their hands full with two other top-10 ranked teams in No. 5 Michigan Tech (Feb. 13-14) and No. 8 Bowling Green (Feb. 27-28) at home. UAA enters the MSU series after being swept at Northern Michigan, 5-3, 3-2 OT on Jan. 30-31. The Seawolves went 1-for-8 on the power play against NMU and are now 14-of-97 overall (14.4%). The Seawolves went 10-for-13 on the penalty kill and are now 89-for-109 (81.7%). UAA is leading the league in penalty minutes, averaging 16.4 minutes per game. Individually, the Seawolves received goals over the weekend from senior co-captains Scott Allen and Brett Cameron on Jan. 31 and senior D Austin Coldwell, sophomore Brad Duwe and freshman Austin Azurdia on Jan. 30. Picking up a team-high three-point weekend was Coldwell with a goal and two helpers. Coldwell now has 4-6 10 totals, second most among UAA defensemen. His 48 career points are tied for No. 18 all-time on the UAA defenseman list. Also producing a multi-point weekend was junior F Blake Tatchell with two helpers. Tatchell leads UAA with 19 points and 15 helpers, while leading all current UAA skaters with 76 career points, good for No. 45 in the UAA record book. Additionally, Tatchell s 56 career assists are good for a tie at No. 28 on the all-time list with Ales Parez (2003-06). Furnishing 5-4 9 totals in the last nine games is Allen, who collected UAA s extra-attacker goal on Jan. 31, sending the game into OT. Allen leads UAA with a team-high eight goals and has 15 points on the year. Allen also leads all current UAA skaters with 40 career goals, good for a tie at No. 27 on the all-time UAA list. Additionally, Allen leads all current UAA skaters with 13 man-advantage goals. Skating with Allen and Tatchell on the first line over the weekend was Cameron. After posting a Div. I-high four goals on Dec. 6, Cameron added a power-play goal on Jan. 31. Cameron has dressed in 133 career games, good for a tie at No. 29 on the all-time UAA list. With 10 guaranteed games left, Cameron can finish as high as No. 2 with 143. Dressing between the pipes against UAF was freshman G Olivier Mantha (6-9-3). The freshman from La Tuque, Québec holds a.922 save percentage during his rookie campaign and is on pace to eclipse UAA s single-season record of.921 (set in 2003-04 by Chris King). Mantha has the fifth-best save percentage in the WCHA overall stats. Week 19 (Feb. 2-8, 2015) @wcha mhockey /WCHAHockey WCHA.tv wcha.com or wcha.com/mobile #traditionstartshere

Friday, Alaska took a 3-1 lead in the third period, but gave up two late goals and lost 4-3 in overtime. On Saturday the Nanooks led 2-1 after the first period, before losing 3-2 on the night. The Lakers and Nanooks met earlier this season in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Alaska took the first game with a wild, 7-5, victory over LSSU before the Lakers enacted their revenge with a, 3-2, overtime win the following day. Last season, the two teams also split a pair of games in the Upper Peninsula. Alaska has not hosted Lake Superior State since November of 2012, when the Lakers and Nanooks again split the then CCHA series. Alaska and Lake Superior State have a long series history, dating back to the 1986-87 season. Overall, the Nanooks are 14-32-6 against the Lakers, and have not earned back-to-back wins against LSSU since 1998-99 (not the same series) and have not swept a series against the Lakes in their history. After a week idle from competition, Alaska hosts a pair of WCHA series in Lake Superior State and No. 1 Minnesota State. The Nanooks have had success following their periods off, as they have gone 3-1-0 after breaks in play. Earlier this season the Nanooks split with LSSU fol lowing a week off and swept Ferris State at home after the holiday break. The Nanooks are outshooting its opposition by a 807-686 margin. The Nanooks tend to come out firing early, as they have the most shots (274) in the first period. Tyler Morley continued his impressive play this season, as he added three points to his team-leading tally this season. T. Morley now has 27 points, a mark that also puts him at fourth in the conference and amongst the leaders in the nation. His 18 assists, also leads the team and is fourth in the WCHA. The junior center also ranks second on the team with nine goals. Rookie Austin Vieth was back amongst the goals last weekend, ending his extended scoring drought. Vieth scored Alaska s second goal in last Saturday s loss, increasing his tally to seven, which has him at third on the team. Alaska sees its most offensive success in the second period, however, as it has scored 28 goals (the most of any) in that frame. Alaska also is outscoring its opponents 28-17 in the second, despite being outscored in the first and third. No lead is safe in a game with the Nanooks. Half of Alaska s 12 wins have been come from behind victories, while the Nanooks have also failed to win five games in which they held leads. On two of those occasions (Michigan Tech and Bowling Green) Alaska had a two goal lead late in the third period. The Nanooks impressed on the power play last weekend. After struggling for a few weeks, Alaska scored three goals with the man advantage against the 10th-ranked Huskies. T. Morley s 10 power play assists ranks him tied for third in the WCHA. Beavers Bemidji State University Bemidji State earned three of four points in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series with (6) Bowling Green Jan. 30-31. BSU improves to 10-12-4 overall and 6-8-4 in WCHA play. The series marked the first time BSU has gone unbeaten in four straight games versus nationally-ranked opponents since the Beavers made the jump to the NCAA Division I level for the 1999-2000. BSU s two empty-net goals Friday matched its season total from a year ago and marked its first time netting a pair of empty-netters in a game since an Oct. 13, 2007 victory over Army, 3-0. BSU is now 4-8-1 versus nationally-ranked teams this season. Other wins include: at No. 2 North Dakota, Oct. 10; No. 7 Minnesota Duluth, Jan. 23 and No. 1 Minnesota State, Jan. 24. Charlie O Connor netted his team-best ninth goal of the season Friday increasing his single-season career-best mark. With a goal and an assist in the game, it was the second multi-point game of O Connor s career. Friday s 5-2 victory, marked BSU s ninth win when scoring more than four goals. BSU is now 1-12-3 when scoring three or fewer and are 9-0-1 when netting four or more. After netting a first-period goal Friday, BSU is now 9-4-1 when scoring first. The Beavers are 1-8-3 when their opponent nets the game s first goal. The Beavers are 7-4-2 at home this season. That s BSU s most wins on home ice since an 11-6-1 mark at Sanford Center in 2011-12. Bemidji State is 5-0-2 at Sanford Center since Nov. 29. BSU is 1-8-2 on its opponent s home ice this season and, not including a pair of North Star College Cup wins on neutral ice, seeks its first road victory since its season-opener, Oct. 10, at then-no. 2 North Dakota. Since Jan. 9, Kyle Bauman has seven points (5g-3a) in nine games to lead the Beavers in scoring. BSU is 5-0-0 when he scores a goal this season. Gerry Fitzgerald has cast the deciding goal in two of the Beavers last three games. The freshman leads the team with three game-winners. Since Dec. 12, Michael Bitzer is 6-2-2 in 606:35 minutes played with a 1.29 goals against average, a.943 save percentage and leads the country with three shutouts during that span. The BSU power-play unit was 1-for-3 Friday and 0-for-4 versus Bowling Green Jan. 30-31. The Beavers are now 15-for-96 (.156) on the man advantage this season. The BGSU penalty-kill came into the series having allowed just seven powerplay goals all season and just one in its opponents last 36 opportunities (.972). The BSU penalty-kill unit held the Falcons scoreless on all seven of their power-play opportunities in the series. BSU improves to 86-for-104 (.827) on the season. Saturday s game was the 100th in a BSU sweater for junior Cory Ward. Matt Prapavessis leads all BSU players with 137 collegiate games played. Averaging 2.92 goals per game this season, BSU is posting its highest goalscoring average since recording 3.46 during the 2009-10 season. BSU has posted 2.88 goals per game in WCHA play to rank fourth in the league. BSU trails Michigan Tech all-time 7-5-4 in a series that got its start Jan. 12, 2007. The Beavers open the series looking for their first victory over the Huskies since Oct. 22, 2011, 3-1 at Sanford Center. BSU is without a win in its last eight meetings with Michigan Tech (0-5-3) BSU is 1-3-4 all-time in games played in Houghton, Mich. And the Beavers have average just 1.5 goals per game. Bemidji State s last, and only, victory in Houghton, Mich. Came 1-0 Feb. 12, 2011 during the Huskies Winter Carnival. The Orange and Brown are in the midst of an eight-week WCHA stretch, playing 16 consecutive league games to finish the regular season. Ferris State is 4-1-1 against Bowling Green over the past two seasons to take a slim 56-55-12 edge in the all-time series. In fact, the Bulldogs have won six straight contests in the BG Ice Arena since a 3-1 BGSU win on Feb. 14, 2009. Bowling Green went on the road last weekend to face one of the hottest teams in the country in Bemidji State and the Falcons lost the opener 5-2 before picking up a 2-2 tie in the series finale. BGSU will enter the weekend tied for eighth in the USCHO poll, earning a top 10 spot in the rankings for the fourth consecutive week. The Falcons entered the poll at No. 19 in the country on Nov. 10 and increased their vote count for 13 straight polls. BGSU peaked as high as No. 6 (on Jan. 19 and Jan. 26). Much like the USCHO.com poll, the Falcons have spent four consecutive weeks in the top 10 of the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. BGSU is ranked No. 9 in the country this week, peaking at No. 6 in each of the past two weeks. Bowling Green entered the poll at No. 15 on Nov. 24 and has not dropped out since. BGSU s 15-6-5 start marks the best start to a season since 1994-95. In fact, with 20 wins on the horizon, the last time the Falcons reached that mark was in 1995-96, finishing 26-14-1 that season. With the Falcons steady improvement over the course of the season, the BGSU Ice Arena has seen an increase in the bleachers at home games. In fact, the BGSU Ice Arena is averaging 2,894 fans per game, which is 800 more than last season. By killing off 6-of-7 power play opportunities over the past weekend against Bemidji State, the Falcons remain the nation s best unit at 93.3 percent (97- for-104). Since Nov. 8, BGSU has killed off 68-of-71 power play opportunities (95.8 percent). In fact, BGSU has been almost as effective offensively as opponents during that stretch, picking up two short-handed tallies. Additionally, the Orange and Brown have gone 17-for-104 (16.3 percent) on the power play in 26 games this season. In all, Bowling Green is 114-for- 208 (54.8 percent) on special teams, which ranks fourth in the nation for combined special teams. The Falcons enter the week as one of the best offensive teams in the WCHA, scoring 3.08 goals in 26 games ranking third in the league behind only Minnesota State and Michigan Tech. The team ranks 13th nationally in scoring offense. Senior forward Adam Berkle had an assist in Saturday night s 2-2 tie against Bemidji State. The Falcons are 4-0-1 when the senior scores a goal in a game, and sit at 6-1-1 when the winger tallies an assist. Redshirt freshman Nolan Valleau waited patiently for his first collegiate goal. Despite posting 11 assists and 25 shots in the team s first 24 games, it took him until the second period of Friday night s contest with Bemidji State to score his first career goal. His second one, though, came much faster as he recorded a tally in the third period as well, less than 27 minutes of game action later. Freshman D Mark Friedman has totaled one goal and 10 assists since Dec. 6, marking the best stretch of any Falcon player. The Orange and Brown are 7-3-1 when Friedman totals an assist and a 8-2-0 mark when recording a positive on-ice rating. Bulldogs Ferris State University Ferris State wrapped up a four-game series with third-ranked Minnesota State on the road this past weekend at the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato. FSU suffered a pair of 5-1 setbacks. Sophomore forward Kyle Schempp tallied both of FSU's weekend goals in the series and has now accounted for the Bulldogs' last four goals, all of which came in the four-game set versus the Mavericks. Schempp had a goal in each of the four meetings versus Minnesota State, including a short-handed unassisted tally in this past Saturday's setback. Senior goaltender CJ Motte is four wins away from matching school-record holder Mike Brown's all-time mark of 63 career victories. He's among the nominees for the 2015 Hobey Baker Award. Bulldog junior forward Matt Robertson notched his team-leading 16th assist of the year in Saturday's loss. He also has a team-high 22 points on the year to date for FSU. With his goal on Saturday, Schempp moved into a tie for the team lead in goals with eight to date this year. Four of his eight markers have come in the past four games. This weekend, Ferris State begins yet another four-game series against a high nationally-ranked opponent as the Bulldogs travel to Ohio to face Bowling Green on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 6-7). FSU then returns home the following week (Feb. 13-14) to host the Falcons in Big Rapids at the Ewigleben Ice Arena. FSU is presently midst an eight-game stretch versus nationally top 10 ranked foes as FSU will square off against Bowling Green in four-straight contests, which comes on the heels of four consecutive matchups with Minnesota State. Senior goaltender CJ Motte is one of the candidates for the Senior CLASS Award in collegiate hockey, which is presented to an athlete who excels both on and off the ice. This year marks the fourth consecutive year in which the Bulldogs have had one of the 20 national candidates and fifth time in the last six seasons. The Bulldogs own a 56-55-21 all-time mark versus Bowling Green entering this weekend's series after beating the Falcons 4-2 in the last matchup on Nov. 16 of last season in Big Rapids following a 3-3 overtime tie the night before (Nov. 15). FSU has posted a 15-4 mark against Bowling Green in the last 19 matchups and won five of seven meetings during the Bulldogs' historic 2011-12 season in addition to three of four in 2012-13. Ferris State and Bowling Green will face off for the 134th and 135th times this weekend in a series that dates back to 1978. FSU has won or tied nine of the 10 regular-season matchups between the two teams over the last three seasons. However, the Falcons pulled out a win over Ferris State in the 2011-12 best-of-three CCHA Tournament second round playoff series at the Ewigleben Ice Arena to move on to Joe Louis Arena. Despite the setback in the CCHA Tournament in 2011-12, the Bulldogs responded by winning the NCAA Midwest Regional and advancing to the Frozen Four only a couple weeks later. The Bulldogs have prevailed in 19 of the last 23 meetings to date, which includes a 9-2 road mark.
