What Happens? Social We encourage members to become involved with various non-tennis social activities We organise occasional social walks and cycle rides and annually we have a summer excursion, a beach barbeque and a Christmas Dinner

What Happened? - Club History The club was originally known as St Mary s Lawn Tennis Club, established in 1948. In 1981 we changed our name to Ottery St Mary Tennis Club, to reflect the name of the town. Originally the club was based in Winters Lane but in 1982 we had the chance to rent up to eight tennis courts on a new shale hockey pitch at Kings School. When we moved to the Kings School hockey pitch we purchased and built a wooden club house, known afectionately as the Club Hut. A few years later the hockey pitch was converted to modern standards and we were then playing on an Astroturf type of surface. For a while we had seven teams in local leagues, some achieving a very high standard of play, with a lot of success. Some trophies are in the Club Hut. As a club we have always tried to encourage juniors and we became linked with Kings School to jointly promote tennis coaching for their students together with youngsters from local primary schools. This is encouraged and supported by the LTA. We have always enjoyed a good relationship with Kings School, and in 2009 the club was invited to rent the school tennis courts, so we moved from the hockey pitch to our present location. During the autumn of 2014 the Club Hut was demolished and replaced with a modern equivalent which we love even more than the original!
