PRESIDENT S UPDATE August 2017 Summer is now coming to an end. Before we know it, Fall will be here. The ski areas have been starting their countdowns until opening day and it s now in the range of around 90-100 depending on the area. Are you ready to hit the slopes? Have you signed up for the Steamboat, Mammoth or Killington trips? Predictions are looking like it s going to be a fantastic winter with lots of snow!! The Clubs also have some great trips this coming season. If you re following Crescent on Facebook and Twitter, you ll know that we are more than happy to promote your trips. If you have a trip you want to fill, email the information to me (short paragraph with basic info., pricing and contact info for your Club s Trip Leader) and I ll post it to hopefully help fill any open spots. Make sure to remind your Club members to like our Social Media pages. We re on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. CONVENTIONS (Michelle Shuford) We are looking forward to seeing MANY of you at our upcoming CSC 2017 Fall Conference October 20-22, 2017. Let s do our part and help Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains area recover from last Fall s devastating wildfires. Tourism is still down for the most part this year, but with all the rain, green growth is coming back fast, and there is a lot of reconstruction. The downtown strip area survived well and is intact, so your favorite bars, eateries, and shops are still here and waiting for you to enjoy them. There is a change for our Racing and Trips meetings; hope this is a welcome one for you. To save time, money, and effort, lunch will be brought onsite (probably from Subway and include a variety of subs, including vegie only) so you can continue your meetings without being hungry. We have permission from the Glenstone to do this. Please bring $5 with you to the meeting for your lunch. Also, it is very important to indicate on the Registration Form how many are attending, so we make sure we have enough food and drinks. There will be subs, chips, and water. Maybe cookies if you are good (meaning you REGISTER)! Make this a club outing. A hike is also being planned for Saturday morning into the early afternoon. Get those costumes planned for the Halloween party on Saturday night. Cost is $30 for the dinner and all included. Cost is $10 for the party only (no dinner). We have an hour for dinner so you can eat and have time to get into your costume if you wish. Let s have a big crowd and have a fun time! As many of you know, the traffic through downtown can be horrific during the Fall season. Plan alternate routes through Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg. If you take a route that goes by Dollywood (Hwy 411 in Sevierville then turning right onto Veterans Blvd), you skip most of Pigeon Forge. Taking the Spur bypass lets you skip most of Gatlinburg. The Spur comes out on the far side of Gatlinburg very close to the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains. Turn left and it is a short distance to then turn right onto Historic Nature Trail (Space Needle on this corner and on which the Glenstone is located). There is always the scenic route using Hwy 441 if you

are coming from the East and want to take in the mountain road through Cherokee Newfound Gap. Take a look at Google Maps and plan your GPS routes. The Fall Conference flyer and registration form is attached. Please pass this along to your members. Deadline for hotel reservations at Glenstone Lodge is September 26 th. There is no guarantee of room availability after that date. The deadline for registration for the weekend is October 7 th. Thanks for coming out and having a fun time in Gatlinburg, Mary Anne Koltowich, CSC Fall Conference Coordinator, kolsmithma@gmail.com Michelle Shuford, CSC Conventions Committee Chair, skibumlong@aol.com The trips for the coming season are: CRESCENT TRIPS (Lisa Beregi) 34 th Annual Steamboat Race/Ski/Ride Camp December 2-9, 2017 January Ski Week to Mammoth January 13-20, 2018 March Ski Week to Killington, VT March 18-23, 2018 Second deposit deadline date is coming up soon. Registrations are at www.sportsamerica.com/csctrips. Please pass along this information to your clubs and keep selling the three trips it s going to be a wonderful year with the Farmer s Almanac and other sites predicting lots of snow!!! Please contact Sara Clemons at Sports America, sara@sportsamerica.com if you want her to look at group air from your city (you will have 10 flying at same time) or any special changes that she may be able to work with your club on either 2018 Ski Weeks. She has already done so for some clubs and is also working on a wine tour extension from Reno after the Mammoth week. The destinations for the 2019 trip short list are Telluride and Crested Butte. Check with your members on their pick voting will be done at the Trips Meeting at the Fall Conference. Remember to update and send your club trip list to Lisa so we can continue to update club offerings on the website. Don't forget for club trip leaders to go to the NSCF website and post your club trip there too! Contact Lisa at drlab88@aol.com if you have any questions regarding trips. RACING (Ron Scott) Crescent Racing will hold a race at Canaan Valley, WV this coming race season, January 26-28, 2018. This Canaan race weekend is open to all Crescent members and is a great opportunity for an affordable club ski trip. Contact Ryan at 304-866-2213 or rosenaur@canaanresort.com. for information.
