December/January Moose Roundup 5 Moose Legion Jeff Kindermann, Chair Rod & Gun Club Brendan Kenny, President Schedule of Activities December 2 Christmas Breakfast & Meeting, 9 a.m. January 6 Breakfast & Meeting, 9 a.m. January 27 MECCA 9 Awards Dinner, St. Charles Lodge, 5 p.m. February 10 Conferral, Plainfield Lodge, 1 p.m. The holidays are approaching and the end to another year is right around the corner. As this calendar year comes to an end, I would like to look back at the past year and thank Don Kubilius for his many years of service as Moose Legion Chairman. I would like to thank all the people who prepare the breakfast and the men and women who attend our meetings. Without your commitment, the Legion would not be what it is. It s been a truly great year for me, and I look forward to working with current and future Legion members, as we continue our commitment and service to the Legion s mission. The mission is to support the children of Mooseheart and the seniors at Moosehaven. This past year our Legion unit was able to contribute money towards the purchase of passenger vans for Mooseheart and to support the scholarship fund project. The unit also contributed to the Moose Endowment fund, which basically is an insurance policy to make certain there is always a Mooseheart for any child who has the need. The Moose Legion is always looking for individuals who would like to expand or provide greater service to the children of Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven. If you are interested in the Legion mission, the requirements to join are (1) hold active Lodge membership for a minimum period of six months and (2) sponsor one member in good standing into the order. The application fee to join the Moose Legion is $10 and the yearly dues are $17. Anyone interested in learning more about the Moose Legion, see Jeff Kindermann or any Moose Legion member. It s Time to Re fuel Our Moose Legion Membership Tank. Any Moose Legionnaire who signs a new member will have his name entered into a drawing to win a $50 gas card. The Moose Legion meets the first Sunday of every month at 9 a.m. upstairs at the Lodge. Breakfast is served at 9:30 a.m. followed by a meeting at 10 a.m. Our next meeting will be December 2. I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year, and again thanks for your continued service. As always, try to do something good for someone each day. Christmas is almost here again, and with it comes our annual Rod & Gun Christmas Party on December 19. Cocktails are at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m. All Rod & Gun Club members and their spouses are invited. Please bring a side dish or dessert. Tear offs will be available at the meetings. The Rod & Gun Club is scheduling a pistol shoot for sometime in February. Although the date has not been set yet, it will be at Midwest Sporting Goods in Lyons. Please be sure to keep your schedule open. More information will be passed along sometime soon. For our pheasant hunters, be sure to save your longest pheasant tail feathers for the Pheasant Tail Contest after the season closes in January. The contest will be decided at the second February meeting. The annual Rod & Gun Club Chili Cookoff is scheduled for Sunday, January 27. The peppers will be hot, and the competition fierce. See Rich Murrow or Evan Fitzgerald for more information. Finally, the Rod & Gun Club extends a warm welcome to recent Lodge enrollees and invites all Lodge members in good standing who are interested in or enjoy hunting, fishing, or the shooting sports to join the Rod & Gun Club. We meet on the first and third Wednesdays of each month in the Lodge basement at 8 p.m. The first year is free to new enrollees in the Club. Come on down and join us if we like you, weʹll let you stay. Local Food Pantry Collection November 21 December 19 Nonperishable foods, soaps, and paper products accepted. Local Food Pantry Community Service Collection From the Administrator Mike Pelling Thanks to John Klasing and the Bag s League for the new tables and chairs in the Social Quarters. For the longest time, John has talked about the need for new tables, and when he found a source to acquire new ones at a very good price, he acted quickly Thanks, John, for taking time on a Sunday to rent a truck, pick these items up, and deliver them to the Lodge. Because of the Bag s League, our Social Quarters has been improved greatly. Four members stepped up and made a major plumbing repair for our Lodge. We had a leak in the bathroom wall, and Dave Gardner and Rich Murrow spent several hours breaking through the wall to make a hole big enough to repair the leak. Then Greg Staub and Tom Moran repaired the leak and reinstalled the plumbing fixture. Thanks, guys, for saving the Lodge a huge plumbing repair bill! During the WOTM College of Regents evening, the women made a very generous donation of $1,000 to the Lodge to be put towards the Chair Lift Fund. Thank you ever so much, ladies, for helping us get that much closer to our goal. November 21 December 19 Nonperishable foods, soaps, and paper products will be accepted.
