PROPOSED FISHERIES REFUGIA SITES NATIONAL PREPARATION WORKSHOP (FEBRUARY 2014): The latest scientific evidances justified that Site 1 no more relevant for Fisheries Refugia, The proposed area is also too vast and in-efficient to be managed as fisheries refugia sites. It has been recommended to establish fisheries refugia system in more spesific site and only to be established in the FMA711, where the South China Sea is a part of this fisheries management areas. This strategy is taken to accelerate the establishment of fisheries refugia system indonesia and at the same time, the project also will

NEW PROPOSED FISHERIES REFUGIA SITES Natuna (small pelagic) Tambelan-Bintan (small pelagic) Bengkayang (shrimp) Jawai Sambas (shrimp) Kubu Raya (shrimp) Agreed during National Preparation Workshop (February 2014): (1) Pulau Kecil (Bangka-Belitung Province) for small pelagic, (2) Tambelan-Bintan (Riau Islands Province) for small pelagic, and (3) Bengkayang (West Kalimantan Province) for panaeid shrimp. Bangka-Belitung (small pelagic) Other identified areas can be considered as high priority for the next replication after the success implemention on the 3 (three) new proposed said.

NATIONAL COORDINATION MECHANISM Directorate General of Capture Fisheries, MMAF will be the national lead agency for the establishment and operation of fisheries refugia in Indonesia. NFRC will provide guidance and endorse the technical management measures or policy formulation that will be developed by TWG to be submitted to Director General of CF for further endorsement. TWG will be established and operated to provide advise to site-level management boards, the NFRC and the RSTC. LMB will catalyze community-led planning of fisheries refugia management at priority sites
