Thanks to all of you (y all) as club members who have offered seemingly unending support for the interim general manager role I assumed November 2015 and which two weeks ago culminated in a general manager status for a period not to exceed 24 months. This maximum time limit was at my request and with the board s approval. My family and I have been club members since summer 1982 joining for a place for our then 3 but within months 4 children to swim, joining for the same reason that many still do. Over the past 34 years as a club member I have been the interim general manager 3 times, the most recent being the term just finished. I was a manager in the public sector at the start of my career and then in a consulting practice as the principle of the firm for 37 years. Altogether I have accumulated about 44 years of management experience. But I am open to all suggestions for better ways to manage and encourage all our members to contact me with suggestions or criticisms. We had a very good summer with robust activity in golf and tennis sports camps and with the summer swim team. There was also a record number of members and guests who used the pool; the pool guest fees were subsequently about 23% greater than for last year, with the same fee structure both years. Looking forward to the fall and early winter, we detail in other sections of this newsletter numerous seasonal-based member events. During October, we have scheduled Halloween parties for both adults and children, an Octoberfest, two parents night out evenings, the State Fair and parking for it, and a luncheon with NCSU basketball Coach Mark Gottfried. In November, we will offer an R-rated movie for our female members and guests coupled with a wine night (for those 21+), an oyster roast with a harvest festival and the traditional Thanksgiving Dinner. If you do plan to attend the Thanksgiving Day Dinner, please RSVP as soon as possible after the RSVP opens on 10.24.2016 as all 3 seatings are usually sold out. Please look at the Thursday night themed buffets, also noted in this newsletter, and the specials offered including the ½ off kid s meal on Saturdays, available with the purchase of an adult meal. We also will offer during October, $5 salads on Tuesday nights and on October 5 in recognition of World Teacher s Day, 50% off meals and drinks for those who show a teacher or professor identification. Beginning mid-october, please know that for those who RSVP, that if your meal is not served within 20 minutes of being ordered, that the meal is complimentary. This will not apply to well-done steak orders or non-menu special requests made at the time of service. Staff is also prepared this year to make your holiday gift shopping a one-stop shop. In addition to the stemmed and stemless wine glasses with the club logo now being advertised, additional club-oriented gifts will be available through our catalogue. Look for this listing by the mid to latter part of October and please contact us at marketing@ncsuclub.org if there are specific items that you want listed. Our 2017 budget process is well underway. But capital requests are specifically encouraged. If you have ideas on major capital improvements, please contact the appropriate committee or, if you are unsure how to make the request, please let anyone on the staff know. Please contact me with any issues or concerns. I look forward to continuing to serve you. Albert Weaver III General Manager 7

Adult Movie Night participants enjoying dinner before The Nice Guys was shown on the big screen. Al Weaver Named General Manager The NC State University Club Board of Directors announced on September 14 that Interim General Manager Al Weaver was offered and accepted the role of General Manager. 9 The executive committee s goal has been to hire a manager to assist the Board to take our Club to the next level by increasing both member services and physical amenities. The qualities and characteristics we are looking for in the next manager are energy, motivation, effective communication skills with a strong Food and Beverage background and a strong business acumen. We are very fortunate to have a strong Interim Manager in place. He has been able to provide the analytical tools and training needed to get our finances back in order. He is willing to remain in the position for 16-24 months. A search for a more permanent, long-term individual is in place. We hope you all join us in welcoming Al to his new role. Reservation Reminders Reservations and RSVP s are a necessary part of the food and beverage management structure that help to ensure that an appropriate amount of food has been ordered and prepared. Reservations also help to ensure that an adequate number of staff are scheduled to meet the level of service that our members and guests expect. At a recent member dining event, we received 40 reservations but had a total of 243 members and guests present for the evening. While we prefer that a reservation be made up to one week in advance, we always strive to accommodate all that dine with us. If we are notified at least one to two hours before, it is easier to provide the expected service level. All our events that specify an RSVP give a date by which we would like to be notified. This is a critical management tool needed to meet both individual and multi-person group expectations. Tent set-up underway at our Fall Family Campout that was held on 9.16.16. Let s Be Friends!
