We look forward each year to the Club s Independence Day Celebration! It consistently rivals Memorial Day in attendance. This year will allow us to offer our usual and customary games and entertainment, but, with the addition of the pool slide and shade structure, we will be able to offer additional games and entertainment. The weather forecast shows mid-90s temperatures with no rain predicted. We hope you and your family will spend the day with us at the Club! We ll be open with our early morning adult lap swim at 5:30am, shortly before sunrise, and will have golf, pool, and tennis games throughout the day along with our kid favorite inflatables in the front lawn. Specifics on the events being held are detailed in other parts of this newsletter and the upcoming email blasts. You will have the option of eating from our poolside cookout from 11am to 2pm, the snack bar, which is open from 11am to 8:30pm, or our dinner buffet from 4pm to 7pm in the University Room. In addition, our poolside bar will be open from 11am until 6pm. Please remember that our next door neighbor, the Vet School, asks that we respect and honor the boundary between our properties. The wolves housed on their property, the bulls kept there for breeding purposes, and the other animals, some with diseases that could be potentially transmitted to humans (zoonoses), are all foreboding reasons to enter their property which is protected by an electric fence and clearly marked with No Trespassing signs. We also ask that parents and caregivers be cognizant of our golf course and help eliminate the risks posed especially by barefoot children on the course. Elsewhere in this newsletter and on our dining table tents, is a listing of the requests made by the Vet school and the golf committee regarding these issues. We certainly acknowledge and know that our children will be on the golf course; we ask only that it be understood that it is a golf course and minimize the risks to others using it for other purposes. Congratulations to our Men s 40+ 4.0 tennis team which won the state championships in Winston-Salem over the 6.24-6.25 weekend and to the Women s 55+ 3.o USTA team who won the Spring League. We also offer our congratulations to the Psycho Swim Team which, under the guidance of 7-year coach Brei Buzek and her assistant coaches, remains undefeated after the first 3 meets this year. Several of our coaches and lifeguards offer private swim lessons. A list of those approved to offer lessons is posted at the lifeguard shack, on the Club s website, and in this newsletter. All persons offering swim lessons are employed by the Club and are covered by our insurance policies. These lessons are available to both youth and adults in 5, 30-minute sessions. Consider using this member service offered at a nominal cost if your child needs extra work on strokes or to help pass the swim test in order to use the pool slide. We hope that all our members will attend the 7.9.2017 Sunday afternoon meeting which will begin at 3pm to learn more about the I-440 beltline widening. We will present the information available on the impact upon the Club and our plans to continue to provide the same services currently available to members. Light refreshments will be provided. We will also offer a limited dining service that Sunday (7.9.2017), from 5-9pm and will continue this Sunday evening service on select Sundays throughout the summer. Our financial audit has been completed for Fiscal Year 2016 by our contracted audit firm and the documents prepared by them have been posted on our website. The metrics we track including guest attendance, dining usage (cover counts and comments), snack bar usage and sales, new member acquisitions, and member attrition are all positive compared to previous years. Please let us know if there are ideas, issues, or concerns you might have that could make your Club experience even better.
