Possible changes include: Altering the start time, shortening the course, or in extreme situations, cancellation of the event. Visible lightning will cause the race to be postponed for a minimum of 30 minutes. Additional sightings will continue to delay the race in 15-minute increments. Only registered participants are eligible to participate in the marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5k. Unregistered individuals will be removed from the course. participant, unregistered individuals and cyclists will be considered illegal pacers and are strictly prohibited. USATF representatives and Little Rock course marshals will serve as race officials. Sections of miles 3-5, 16-23 of the course are out-and-back. On those sections of the course, athletes must remain on their side of the course, which will be separated by traffic medians and cones. Participants may be penalized or disqualified for: Leaving the course Joining the race after the start Receiving pacing assistance from an unregistered individual or cyclist Not completing the event in which you registered Unsportsmanlike conduct Not following the race rules SECURITY Numerous precautions are taken each year to protect those present race weekend. These precautions are extensions of policies and procedures that have been in place for many years, and are the result of industry wide best practices. The clear plastic bag given to you at packet pick up will be the only bag accepted at gear check. No other bags will be accepted. All bags are subject to random bag checks by security personnel. We recommend arriving early on race morning to account for the additional time it will take to pass through security. Be what experts call a "force multiplier" and watch for suspicious people or packages: And not just on race day. If you're on the race's social media sites and someone makes threats, report it to the police or race officials. Skip the headphones; they dampen awareness of your surroundings: Wear a medical ID bracelet or actually fill out the medical info on the back of your bib; if you're injured, the information can greatly assist first-responders in your treatment. BANDIT POLICY The Little Rock Marathon does not tolerate bandits (running/walking without registering). Individuals who run/walk without registering are using supplies, services, and road space paid for by registrants. Please be considerate and do not run/walk without registering and paying for your event. If you choose to continue after 3 pm, you do so at your own risk and will be required to move to available sidewalks and obey traffic signals along the course. Medical services close at 3:30 pm. If problems are experienced after this time, please contact your personal physician or proceed to the nearest emergency room. RACE ETIQUETTE The race staff would like to thank you in advance for considering these etiquette tips as you enjoy the Little Rock Marathon Weekend, presented by the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, events. Please pay attention to pre-race instructions both print and verbal. What you read and hear will not only help guide you through the course but will keep you safe. Wear your race bib on the front of your shirt. Each participant in the marathon and half marathon have been assigned to a start corral. This will ensure that you are with people who have a similar pace. Your corral assignment is in the top left corner of your official race number. Please be aware of others around you. Do not run/walk more than two abreast. Please stay to the right side of the road, as well as any cones or barricades. Sections of the course are out and back (i.e. mile 3 and mile 5). You may have to deal with bodily functions during the race. If you need to spit or clear your nose, please move to the side of the road and do it there (same goes for throwing up). If nature calls, pull off the course and check for a porta-potty or, as a last resort, a discreet clump of bushes. If you need to tie your shoe, or stop for any reason, please move to the side of the road. People coming up behind you are still moving and if you stop in front of them, the scene is set for a collision. If you want to start with a friend and they are in a different corral, the faster of the two can move back to the slower corral. The slower participant may not move up to the faster corral. When stopping at an aid station, move all the way over to the table, grab water or Gatorade, and move away from the table so others may get water or Gatorade too. If you want to stop and drink, move to the side of the road, out of the way of other athletes. If there s a trash receptacle, by all means use it. If not, don t go too far with your cup. Volunteers will be collecting the cups and will appreciate not having to go on an extended litter patrol. Move to the side if someone behind you says, Excuse me, Coming through, On your left, or On your right. You are about to be passed and the person behind you is giving you a heads up. It s proper race etiquette to let that person through. They are having a good day. Feel free to shout words of encouragement to other runners. You will hear words of encouragement in return.
When you are approaching the finish line, you may see loved ones cheering you on. Please do not encourage anyone to join you in the finish line stretch. Your support team is very important, but please communicate that the race course and finish area is for registered participants and staff only. After you cross the finish line, it is important that you continue moving forward at least at a slow walk so that the finish area does not become bottlenecked with exhausted runners standing around and trying to catch their breath. This situation can become dangerous as other athletes approach the finish line at high speeds like bowling balls taking aim at so many vulnerable bowling pins! Enjoy the post-race refreshments, but remember that others will want to enjoy the goodies too. Please be courteous to those finishing behind you and take only one of each item. Celebrate! Thank your volunteers and have a great race! UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT Unsportsmanlike conduct is unacceptable and will not be permitted during any Little Rock Marathon event. Weather forecasts will be monitored prior to the event and athletes will be made aware of these conditions and possible dangers. Unless there is an eminent danger, we will start the race. Cold weather will not stop the race nor will rain unless there is thunder and/or lightning associated with it. We suggest checking our website for updates race morning in the event the weather in question and use your own judgment to make a decision that is best for you and your family. We will also post updates via email, Twitter and Facebook. The Race Director and Medical Director, in consultation with law enforcement, fire/ems and other officials, will monitor the weather and make a decision if any action will be taken to modify the race. Possible changes include: Altering the start time, shortening the course, or in extreme situations, cancellation of the event. Visible lightning will cause the race to be postponed for a minimum of 30 minutes. Additional sightings will continue to delay the race in 15-minute increments. RULES & REGULATIONS The Little Rock Marathon and Half Marathon courses are certified by the United States of America Track & Field (USAT&F) Association. Only registered participants are eligible to participate in the marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5k. Unregistered individuals will be removed from the course. Unauthorized bicycles are not allowed on the course. In order to prevent a physical or psychological advantage to any registered
participant, unregistered individuals and cyclists will be considered illegal pacers and are strictly prohibited. RACE TIME LIMIT Marathon 8 hours Half Marathon 4 hours 10K 2 hours 5K 1 hour The course opens to traffic at 3 pm.
Unsportsmanlike conduct shall include, but is not limited to, failure to heed the instructions of race officials; intentional or disregard of the rules, or abusive language and/or actions toward any race official, volunteer, participant, or spectator. Individuals behaving unsportsmanlike may be disqualified (at the discretion of race officials), have their registration terminated, and be prohibited from participating in future Little Rock Marathon events. PRE RACE SUPPORT/TOILETS We recommend you arrive at least an hour early to familiarize yourself with the area. Bathrooms and gear check are located in Runner Services inside the Statehouse Convention Center. Portable toilets are located in the parking lot next to the Start Line (corner of Scott & Capitol). RACE NUMBERS IMPORTANT REMINDER: Your personal safety is very important to us. We encourage you to take time to write out emergency information on the back of your race number along with any life threatening conditions, as well as allergies for medical personnel. Race numbers must be worn on the front of your person. Race officials and photographers must be able to see your entire race number to know you are officially registered. Do not cut or fold your number in any way. Failure to comply with this rule could result in disqualification. Race numbers are non-transferable and may only be worn by the participant to whom it is assigned. Participant race numbers will appear as follows: Marathon participants Yellow Half Marathon participants Red 10K participants Black 5K participants Cyan TIMING All 2016 Little Rock Marathon races (except for the Little Rockers Final Mile) will be timed using a disposable timing chip, which is attached to each participant s race number. The disposable chip requires no battery, is lighter than a feather and has a built in microprocessor customized to ensure maximum reads even during the most challenging of conditions. no chips or tags to return post race official gun time results available at the results tent with live scrolling results on TV Monitors and touch screen kiosks No chip/race number. No time. No exceptions. MEDICAL SUPPORT add logo St. Vincent s Heart Clinic Arkansas and paramedics on bike will be providing medical support during the race. Health care professionals will be available at aid stations located at miles 5.8, 10.2, 17.5 and 20.5 providing medical assistance as needed. A fully equipped medical facility is located at the finish line. Paramedics on bikes will also be located throughout the course. The Medical staff will have the right to withdraw any participant from the race that appears in distress or at risk should they continue on the course.
RACE TIME LIMIT Marathon 8 hours Half Marathon 4 hours 10K 2 hours 5K 1 hour The course opens to traffic at 3 pm.
RACE TIME LIMIT Marathon 8 hours Half Marathon 4 hours 10K 2 hours 5K 1 hour The course opens to traffic at 3 pm.
RACE TIME LIMIT Marathon 8 hours Half Marathon 4 hours 10K 2 hours 5K 1 hour The course opens to traffic at 3 pm.
Check out the start line map for directions on how to get to the start line. Participants are assigned to an appropriate corral based on the projected finishing time submitted on their registration form. When the start of the race is declared all participants will start. Start corrals are designated as Elite/Wheelchair/Hand Cycle/Physically Challenged Athlete, then corrals labeled A-F. The start line and start corrals are secure areas for participants only. Your start corral is the upper-case letter before your race number and was selected based upon the estimated finish or you met the requirements for a preferred start. Report to your corral at least 25 minutes prior to race start. Athletes who are assigned to a different corral but wish to start together may do so if they go to the slowest corral. Do not attempt to get in a corral higher than what you are seeded. This will cause immediate disqualification. No exceptions. The Little Rock Marathon reserves the right to disqualify anyone who does not line up in the appropriate corral. PACE GROUPS The Little Rock Marathon Pace Team is presented by Go! Running.
