www.prairiefirecheerleading.ca We would like to sincerely welcome you to Prairie Fire Cheerleading. 2015-2016 marks our th year as PFC! This 7500sqft club began as one team on the concrete floor of the Saskatoon Fieldhouse, we continued for the next two years training at the YWCA and for the last five years we have saved and put every pennie into developing an outstanding training facility and a club of more than 15 teams and 300+ athletes! Every year we can t help smile seeing the family we ve been blessed with and the opportunities PFC has offered all of us. Please join the excitement as we begin years together.

The following thoughts are those of PFC athlete and coaches, as well as excepts from a well-written blog by Sydney from Cheer Athletics FAMILY The girls and boys of PFC are the definition of family and passion. They love the sport we love. They become genuine brothers and sisters and they become some of the most influential people in your life. You win with them and you lose with them. You fight with them. You grow up with them. They've seen you at your worst and they've seen you at your absolute best. Regardless of the kind of day you were having, walking into the gym is a fresh start. It's the type of friendship that lasts for life. It is like family. LEADERSHIP The coaches are also your best friends, but they have so much to teach you. They will joke around and mess with you. You will get frustrated with them for challenging at you or making you condition, but you wouldn't trade them for the world. Watching them go crazy when you hit a perfect routine is what makes it all worth it. Your coach is there for you always, giving you the type of advice that sometimes even your parents can t give you. Our coaches are teachers and they are friends. They are masters at what they do, they are cheer professionals, they are a family of passionate people who continue to coach because they love it as much as we love cheer. PERFORMING Competing is why we do what we do but, it's the feeling you get when you're on deck standing behind the stage and you hear the music end for the team in front of you. It's hearing your team's name being called out and taking the mat in front of hundreds of people screaming for you. It's the ginormous smile on your face when you can see absolutely nothing except for the bright lights shining on you as you say a quick prayer for your team. In those 2 minutes and 30 seconds, you are truly in the moment. Competing is honestly like an out of body experience. Some inner super hero comes out and gives you the strength and power to make your tumbling feel like you're actually floating on air. And at the end of the day, placement really doesn't matter. Your biggest competition is your team itself. The feeling of hitting a perfect routine is the ultimate victory, because that was the goal in the first place. All you can do is hit the best routine you possibly can and after that, it's all in the judges hands. It's the feeling of all your hard work paying off and seeing your coaches so proud of you. It's overcoming all the issues your team has ever had and coming together as one. 2

A TRULY COMPETITIVE SPORT Cheerleading has created age groups so that you compete against girls your own age. Every year I come to practice I meet new young people coming up from youth and then my old teammates who made us a team and the oldest girls in our age. These girls have worked so hard to make this team and now they have one more year to hit it at Junior. The coaches and the gym owners make the teams after team placements. The coaches and our team decide what level we want to compete at. In cheer I get to train skills that I can hit, tumbling that pushes me without making me frustrated. I want to compete at a level that balances the competition. Levels let girls at the same age but with different talents or experience strive for success. This creates a competition setting where the best team and the newest team can compete and both are successful. LOTS OF CHOICES Prairie Fire has so many teams. I started on the youth team practicing twice a week and we travelled to Regina for provincials and we won our division. The best part though was that we also won the grand championship because we had a better percentage than any other team at the competition. The year after I moved onto a youth team that practices twice a week and had a tumbling time. That was a good thing because we could work on individual skills and focus on what I needed. That year we went to Edmonton. The competition was huge and the teams were awesome. We did a good job even though we didn t hit our routine but our coaches were so excited! Last year after lots of privates (individual training sessions) and hard work I competed on Wildfire(the junior 2 team). We had a great team and hit our routine lots of times. We competed at Sea to Sky in Vancouver and we did OK but we had a blast, I love my team. This year I hope to be on Wildfire again and I think I will be coaching this year too! I was told that I would be coaching the precompetitive team, which is good. They only practice once a week and I can practice my coaching with Brayden (one of PFC s senior coaches). In the future I would like to compete on Bombshells and go to Worlds. It would be great to compete with the best in the world. TEAM I have trained and competed in a lot of different sports and I have enjoyed my teammates and the friendships created. However, nothing compares to the unity that is created when you build a routine together: an effort that is filled with struggles and successes and with your coaches is celebrated as a team. 3

TRAIN IN A HIGH QUALITY GYM Since I have been at PFC they have gotten an air track, trampoline, lots of mats, a TV. Next year Todd said that we would be getting another floor! Since the beginning we have committed to providing a great training space. Even when we haven t had the money we have found a way to provide a full competitive floor, tumble tracks loads of training mats and a training space worthy of great athletes. Safety is always our top priority. This year we will have two floors to train on creating a better schedule more space, more training and better opportunities for our family. F.L.I.P.P.E.R. One of the things I like about Prairie Fire are the friends I have made. I spend 3 days here training and 2 days coaching and I love coming here. I know that the coaches, my team and even the parents will be there to help me when I need it. I love the little kids who come to open gym and make me stunt with them. This is a family to me. Last year we asked our coaches and athletes what is most important at PFC and what kind of place do we want to live in. They came up with 7 words that encompass where we have come from, what we are who we strive to be. Family Leadership Integrity Positivity Perseverance Empower and Respect. Family and Positivity lead the way (FLIPPER). POSITIVITY The coaches started the theme practices but now we decide on Facebook what each practice will be! The athletes and the coaches try to make PFC more than just cheer. Here are just a few of the fun things we have done: theme practices, sleepovers in the gym, movie nights, bowling nights, ice skating at the oval, pool parties, princess nights, amazing races, river floats, trampolines, cupcakes, music videos, cheer pillows, just to name a few. SEE A NEW WORLD When I went to NCA, in Dallas TX, I really saw the Cheerleading world. It was like being at the Stanley Cup. Every fan, coach and athlete was there to support teams and to see the best from everyone. We were all there to encourage each other to be the best we can be. I love this sport. Cheerleading has brought our athletes across Canada, from the east to the west coast of the USA, Australia, Mexico and as the sport grows we will continue to present opportunities to our athletes. You will find that the sport s sisterhood is shared everywhere you go with open arms and support to grow. 4

HOW DO I JOIN? Our regular season starts at the end of August and continues on into April. Athletes are placed with other athletes in the same age group and at approximately the same starting point. Your daughter/son will get an opportunity to try every aspect of our sport. Please feel free to ask lots of questions, talk to the coaches, director or owners. We always encourage parents to stay and watch, if you are really eager you can join our adult or parent team! Athletes should wear clothes that they will feel comfortable being active in. We suggest a pair of shorts, t-shirt and a clean pair of shoes. We hope to give everyone a fun opportunity to try our sport, even if this isn t the sport for you. Many children have a very good idea whether this is the place for them within the first few practices. We are excited to see you there! TUMBLING There are two equally important components of tumbling: Standing and Running. Our tumbling training is designed for athletes who are interested in becoming better and advancing in the sport. All of our teams have tumbling included in their practices, if your athlete is wanting some extra work on their tumbling we have private and semi-private tumbling lessons available! Money fundraised goes to the athlete and can be used to cover the costs associated with travel and uniforms, or can be put toward buying some sweet team gear! We are continually looking for different fundraising ideas, as well as parents to help run and organize events! If this sounds like you, join our parent board this fall! Our parent group is also a registered Non-Profit organization, so many of our athletes are able to receive funding from outside organizations such as Kids Sport and JumpStart! 7

PAYMENTS We work very hard to provide a variety of fee structures and payment opportunities. It is important to us to keep our fees as reasonable as possible and to flexibly provide opportunities to young athletes. All payments will be made within the registration guidelines and will also follow the refund policy. Below is the payment plan available for one payment. Payment can also be made in 4 payments or in monthly payments. If you choose a 2, 4 or monthly payment we will require either a void cheque, post-dated cheque or credit card number on file. The breakdown of these payments can be found on our website www.prairiefirecheerleading.ca. For those opting for a monthly payment plan, there is a 3% administrative fee charged. We have Debit and Visa payment options and hopefully we will soon have an online option available to our members as well. Families only pay one administration fee. Below is a basic breakdown of our fee structure. The Administration fee pays for the administration of the teams, coaches, competitions and facilities. The Choreography fee pays for music, bows, makeup, t shirt and several of the best industry coaches, choreographers and trainers to work with our athletes.
