Baker, Gilbert Ernest Private Service No: 210 At: Quinn s Post Action on: 9-22 Aug 15 Date & Award Recom d: 7 Dec 15, Medaille Militaire Honour/Award: No evidence found Date of London Gazette: Date of Commonwealth Of Aust Gazette: For consistent good work in sniping and bomb throwing at Quinn s Post between 9/8/15 and 22/8/15, when he had his right hand blown off by the premature explosion of a new bomb which was being experimented with.

Bell, George John Lieutenant Colonel Service No: At: Tel El Saba, Jemmameh & Esdud Action on: 31 Oct 17 & 9-10 Nov 17 Date & Award Recom d: 28 Jan 18, CMG & Bar to DSO Honour/Award:CMG Date of London Gazette: 11 April 1918, page 4410, position 1 Date of Commonwealth Of Aust Gazette: 30 August 1918, page 1781, position 32 For conspicuous dash and gallantry in action throughout the operations commencing 31/10/17. At Tel El Saba on 31/10/17 he employed his Regiment with such skill and dash and drove his attack with such vigour that he captured the enemy strong position on Tel El Saba, covering Beersheba from the last. On 9/11/17 as Advance Guard to the brigade he displayed great energy during the advance from Jemmameh Burier-Ejjy-Mejdel (where he captured 8 officers and 162 other ranks prisoners) Beit Duras and on 10/11/17 when his advance was held up by enemy in strength on high ground 2 ½ miles South East of Esdud, he displayed great boldness in the carrying out of his attack on the position. Throughout the pursuit his work was characterised by dash and vigour, his personal, untiring enthusiasm permeating the whole of his regiment. From Gallipoli onwards, without intermission, his work has been consistently good.

In the Es Salt area on 31/3/18 when his regiment was attached to the 179 th Inf. He arrived in position in rear of and on the right flank of the enemy before daylight and attacked the extreme right post with two troops, capturing 3 machine guns and killing 1 officer and 13 other ranks. On the morning of 29 th march 1918, whilst in command of an outpost on the Nablis Road, a strong force of the enemy moving towards Es Salt, attacked his post at 0330. Lieutenant Kidman, held the enemy in check and inflicted casualties at a few yards range, compelling them to deploy in the hills in front of the post. Lieutenant Kidman held the post until daylight and by his telephone communication was able to give accurate information as to the enemy s strength and position. His coolness and tenacity on a very important post was most commendable.
