ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT IGNITE! Combining fitness, sports, movement training and games, IGNITE! helps children improve their movement patterns, enhance athletic performance and build self-esteem and confidence in future physical activities. Ages 8-12 January 14 30 February 11 27 March 11 27 April 8 24 May 6 22 June 10 26 July 8 24 August 5-21 Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4:30-5:30 p.m. (register for one or both days/week) Cost: One day per week (three classes): $105/session Two days per week (six classes): $210/session F.A.S.T. (Functional Agility & Speed Training) F.A.S.T. Functional Agility and Speed Training focuses on increasing agility, speed, power and overall athleticism in a competitive group atmosphere. The training helps student athletes excel at the demands of their particular sport while also reducing the likelihood of injury. Each practice focuses on a different skill set including learning about the positions and the field, goalie practice, dribbling, shooting, passing and trapping and more. Ages 4-6 January 22 February 26 March 12 April 16 April 30 June 4 Wednesdays, 4:45-5:30 p.m. Cost: $110/session for first child $60/session for every additional child of the same family Teen TRX Hybrid NEW Incorporating the TRX Suspension Training system and other equipment including battle ropes, kettle bells, slide boards and stability balls, Teen TRX Hybrid is a full-body workout. Maximum of six participants per session. Ages 13-18 March 18-April 24 April 29-June 5 Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4:45 5:30 p.m. Cost: $420/session CLINICS Get Your Game On Basketball Clinics Take your best shot and make it better. Focused on game playing, rather than drills and fundamentals, Basketball Pro Coleman Crawford is the referee and coach and directs the players as they develop game strategy. Spring Basketball Academy Each week, Basketball Pro Coleman Crawford s academy focuses on a different aspect of the game. From ball handling and shooting to offensive one-on-one techniques and individual defense, players hone their skills while learning new moves, making them a better team player. Players ages 10 and under will use Quick Start Tennis a new way for kids to learn and play the game of tennis. The court size, racket sizes, balls, net and even the scoring system have been modified to ease kids entry into the sport. The clinics for ages 11-14 are designed typically for kids who have played some but want to further their experience and become competitive players in middle school or high school. SPRING BREAK CAMPS Kids & Youth Camps NEW this year, your kids can enjoy full-day Spring Break Camps. They ll play sports and games and participate in other fun activities. Kids Camp, Ages 5-7 Youth Camp, Ages 8-13 March 10 14 Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Cost: Before March 1, $215/week or $60/day After March 1, $225/week or $65/day SUMMER FIT & FUN CAMPS Kids Camp This day camp includes introductions to various sports, new physically-active games and overall wellness through daily fitness and nutrition lessons. Each week has a different schedule including everything from soccer and tennis to relays and parachute games to water days. Campers will enhance their agility, balance, coordination and social interaction. Ages 5-7 June 2 6 June 9-13 June 16 20 June 23 27 July 7 11 July 14 18 July 21 25 July 28 August 1 August 4 8 One-week Sessions (M-F), 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Cost: By May 1, $175/session After May 1, $185/session 10% discount if you register the same child for 4+ weeks at one time Your child must be turning 5 by Sept. 1 to enroll in Kids Camp. Each camp session is limited to a 10:1 camper-staff ratio. Kid Campers must bring their lunch. Kids Camp Extended Care Hours: 7:30-9 a.m. available on a firstcome first-serve basis for an additional $30 per week. Limited to 10 campers per week. Splash Camp A special swim session for our Kids Campers only. After camp, Splash Campers get in their suits and head to the pool for some fun! Monday-Friday, 3-4 p.m. Cost: $110/week (added to your Kids Camp registration fee; must register in advance; space is limited) Must be able to swim 30 feet and have no fear of the water. Youth Camp This action-packed day camp allows kids to try different sports and activities including swimming, tennis, basketball, hip hop, volleyball and more! Campers also have a daily fitness or nutrition lesson that helps empower them to make healthy choices and learn how fun fitness and wellness can be. SUMMER SPORTS CAMPS Tennis Camp For beginner and intermediate players, Tennis Camp focuses on developing stroke and serving techniques and teaches campers how to use the strokes in play. A racquet can be provided if needed. Basketball Fundamentals Through drills and practice games, players learn passing, dribbling and general knowledge of the game. June 16 20 July 14 18 One-week Sessions (M-F) Ages 5-7, 9-10:30 a.m. $155/session Ages 8-12, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. $200/session Cheer Camp NEW The perfect introduction into the world of cheerleading! Kids will learn chants, cheers, jumps and age-appropriate dance and tumbling. At the end of the week, the cheerleaders will put on a short show for their parents. Come learn what true team spirit looks like! Ages 5-7 June 16 20 July 14 18 One-week Sessions (M-F), 3-4 p.m. Cost: By May 1, $110/session After May 1, $120/session Basketball Shooting School Designed to help players perfect their shot, Basketball Shooting School includes drills to learn how to shoot off the dribble, pass and screen. It s all about making baskets and scoring points! Ages 10-14 June 23 27 July 21 25 One-week Sessions (M-F), 10 a.m.-noon Cost: $200/session PRIVATE LESSONS Our Sports Pros offer basketball, boxing and tennis instruction for improved skills and fitness. Cooper Swim Academy Summer Group Lessons For more than 20 years, Cooper Swim Academy has taught children swimming skills they can use and enjoy for the rest of their lives. Our summer group lessons are categorized by color, each representing a different skill level. We have a low student-to-instructor ratio, providing a controlled and nurturing environment. Cost: $215/two-week session plus $10 registration fee red class at least 3 years old (as of 6/1/14) Little or no previous instruction. This class introduces floating, gliding and using the arms to move through the water. The emphasis is on becoming more comfortable in the water. Children already comfortable under water might consider the Orange Class. orange class typical age is 4-6 years The child must have little or no fear of the water and be able to swim five to 10 feet to an instructor. Freestyle arms, front and back float, breathing techniques, kicking and ease and comfort in the water are taught. Summer Group Lesson Session Dates May 5-August 1 Each session is two weeks and classes are held Monday-Friday unless otherwise noted. Proper freestyle mechanics in coordination with balance and breathing is emphasized. Backstroke and kneeling racing start from the side of the pool are introduced. green class typical age is 6-9 years The child must be completely at ease in any depth of water and be able to swim 50 feet freestyle. The class is focused on increasing distance in freestyle while maintaining proper stroke mechanics and breathing to the side. Backstroke and racing start are also taught. blue class typical age is 7-12 years The child must be completely at ease in any depth of water and be able to swim 50 feet freestyle. For stronger swimmers who have had previous instruction and are able to swim 50 feet repeatedly for 30 to 45 minutes. advanced/technical class typical age is 7-15 years The focus is stroke technique for all four competitive racing strokes, training skills, starts and turns. Swimmers can expect drill swimming of all four strokes and preparation for swim team and race competition. ORIENTEERING Looking for a unique way to entertain a group of children for a birthday party, team building, Girl/Boy Scouts or church group? Why not try orienteering (otherwise known as a HUGE scavenger hunt, with a healthy spin)? MARTIAL ARTS Cooper Fitness Center offers monthly Group Martial Arts classes for children and adults led by Martial Arts Pro Mike Proctor. He has more than 45 years of martial arts experience, is a 10th Degree Black Belt and a founding member of the Texas Black Belt Commission. Scavenger Hunt Using a map and compass, teams must work together to locate each point on the map and get their passport stamped at each location. This is a great workout and loads of fun. Ages 8+ Friday Afternoons and Evenings Saturday Mornings Duration: 1 hour Cost: $25/person, plus $50 non-refundable deposit Minimum of 10 participants, maximum of 50 Blind-Led Orienteering The blind-led version of the scavenger hunt is a bit more challenging. Each team is divided into two groups one group works indoors with a map while the other group is outdoors waiting for verbal commands from the indoor team via cell phone. The indoor team has to be good at communicating in order to lead their other half blindly to each point on the map. First team to reach all their points on the map wins! Ages 12+ Friday Afternoons and Evenings Saturday Mornings Duration: 1.5 hours Cost: $30/person, plus $50 non-refundable deposit Minimum of 10 participants, maximum of 50 EVENTS Kids Night Out Kids will enjoy a fun-filled, action-packed evening at Cooper Fitness Center while parents enjoy an evening out. The night includes games, crafts, dinner and more.
