All-Time Series: The only times that IPFW and Southern Utah have met on the hardwood have been in conference action, with IPFW sweeping the meetings last season, and winning in Cedar City earlier this season. The first time the two teams have met was on December 6, an 81-70 IPFW victory in Fort Wayne. Tina Moen scored 13 points while Jordan Zuppe added a dozen for the returners on the victorious team. Anne Westwood scored 19 to lead the SUU returners, as Challis Pascucci poured in 15, as each hit seven free throws in the game. In the most recent meeting between the teams, on March 1 in Cedar City, Jordan Zuppe scored a game-high 19 points, with Courtney Reed adding 17, as the pair combined to hit 9-of-20 long range shots. Caitlyn Sears scored 18, as Westwood-Higbee had 13 to lead players that are returning this season. Earlier this season IPFW put five players in double figures in the scoring column, with Zuppe leading the way with 15 points, as Chelsey Jackson and Moen each scored 13, and Sarah Haluska and Courtney Reed each scored 11. Scouting the Mastodons: The Mastodons come into this afternoon s game looking for a victory over Southern Utah, which would clinch a spot in the Summit League tournament for the Mastodons. This year it has been Jackson providing the offensive spark for the squad with a 12.9 point per game average, with Zuppe chipping in 10.7. Haluska is the team s leading rebounder, pulling down 4.3 rebounds per game, while Reed has dished out 54 assists, and grabbed 32 steals, each leading the team. No. Name Ht. Pos. Cl. Below are the longest home-court win streaks in the Division I era, and the entire IPFW women s basketball history. Division I Era 4 2007-08 4 2005-06 2006-07 4 2002-03 3 2008-09 3 2003-04 Overall 12 1995-96 9 1992-93 1993-94 8 1993-94 1994-95 8 1990-91 8 1988-89 1989-90 8 1998-99 no more double-double trouble Eva Ivanova s 16-point 12-rebound double-double against Oral Roberts gave IPFW their first double-double of the season, snapping a streak of nearly a year without one (the one prior was on February 25, 2008 in an overtime loss to IUPUI by Natalie Roberts). The Mastodons did not have to wait nearly as long for the second one of the season, as Ivanova became just the second player in IPFW s Division I era to record a double-double in back-to-back games following a 20-point, 11-rebound game against Centenary. Verea Bibbs had back-to-back double-doubles three times in the 2003-04 season, as the aforementioned four are all that IPFW has in their curent era. The last time a player had back-to-back-to-back double-doubles was in early 2000, when Trish Fleming accomplished the feat on February 15 at St. Joseph s, February 17 at Indianapolis, and February 19 at Northern Kentucky. Several Mastodons had come very close to joining the group, including Tina Moen on November 18 against Butler (10 points, 9 rebounds), Jordan Zuppe on January 3 against South Dakota State (8 points, 8 rebounds), Sarah Haluska (19 points, 9 rebounds) and Chelsey Jackson (22 points, 8 rebounds), both against Oral Roberts on January 12, Nan Moore against Oakland on February 14 (9 rebounds and 7 assists), and two times by Ivanova, the first with a 10-point, 9-rebound effort against Toledo on November 29, and a 22-point, 9-rebound game against South Dakota State on February 2. we re going streaking This season, five players have had runs of three or more games in which they reached double figures in the scoring column. The longest stretch of doublefigure scoring games is from Chelsey Jackson and Eva Ivanova, who each had a six-game stretch. During their streaks, Jackson scored 103 points (17.2 average) and Ivanova 104 (17.3). Other notable streaks include a pair by Jordan Zuppe, one of five games (83 points/16.6 average) and another of four games, where she is averaging 14.3 a game; Anne Boese s four-game streak where she scored 49 points (12.3 average); a four-game stretch by Jackson (55 points/13.8 ppg); and Courtney Reed s three game stretch in which she scored 45 points (15.0 per game). Sarah Haluska hasn t able to put more than two straight games together, although she did reach double figures in five of seven games during a mid-season stretch.

Anne Westwood-Higbee has led Southern Utah in points and rebounds in each of the last two seasons. The senior is on pace to becomd the first player in SUU history, men or women, to lead the team in both categories for three consecutive seasons. early importance This season, both the Thunderbirds and the Mastodons have not won a game in which they have went into the locker room trailing. IPFW is 0-18, while Southern Utah is 0-15. milestone accomplished Southern Utah s only senior, Westwood-Higbee, has put herself into some elite company as per her rankings in the Thunderbird record books. She became just the seventh player in school history to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau, as her total of 1,089 currently stands as the fifth most in school history, and she needs just 55 more to move into fourth. Her 751 career rebounds are the third most ever, needing 24 more to move into sole possession of second place. She has played more games (114) than any other Thunderbird player in school history, while her field goal percentage of.491 (393-of-801) ranks fourth overall. another p.o.w. plays the dons... Seven times this season, the student-athlete that won the Summit League Player of the Week honors have ended up playing IPFW in their next game, and this week is no exception, as Westwood-Higbee has earned the honor after her games against Centenary and Oral Roberts. Each of the last three weeks has seen the P.O.W. face IPFW, starting on February 10 with Oakland s April Kidd, February 17 with Western Illinois Amanda Walker, and this week s Thunderbird star. Maria Boever (SDSU/Dec. 30), Janae Voelker (ORU/Jan. 6), Brittany Carnago (Oakland, Jan. 13), and Jennifer Warkenthien (SDSU/Jan. 27) are the other players to have helped in the dubious honor. Confersely, however, only one player has earned the honor after facing IPFW, and it was Warkenthien, who secured her third straight POW award after facing IPFW and Oakland on February 3. No. Name Ht. In Chris Paul s first two full seasons as the head coach of the IPFW Mastodons, they have set and met multiple goals, each year winning more games than in any of the five prior seasons. Two years ago the team set a new Division I record with their 12 wins, before equaling their effort the next season. Last season IPFW toppled Miami (Ohio), a team that eventually won the Mid-American Conference, earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament. Paul took over head coaching duties of the head coach chris paul team on December 21, 2005 after Bruce Patterson resigned from the position. The group consists of Sarah Hammond of West Holmes High School in Millersburg, Ohio, Kim Kline of Nelsonville-York High School in Ohio, Fort Wayne native and South Side student-athlete Sydney Weinert, Mandi Johnson from Crawfordsville, Indiana, and Hannah Jones from Hudson High School in Ohio. "We are very excited about our 2009-10 recruiting class," said Paul. "We were able to address our needs, and become a much bigger basketball team for next season. Not only are these five excellent basketball players, but they are excellent students and people as well, which is something that is very important to us here at IPFW." It is State Tournament time for all five of the IPFW signees, with the Indiana pair, Johnson and Weinert, having led their teams to the sectional titles, with the Ohio trio, Kline, Hammond, and Jones, set to begin their tournaments this weekend.
