CANOE POLO Day NEWS FRA Men and GBR Women dominate With some surprises but ultimately class showing through, Day has seen the top Canoe Polo teams perform well in Kaohsiung. 5 goals (Men 88 and Women 65) saw cheering spectators being entertained in this skillful explosive sport. Men The morning saw current World Games and World Champions Netherlands start their day with an impressive 8 0 win over hosts Chinese Taipei but a loss -5 to France put them second in the group but safely through to the semi-finals.

CANOE POLO With the other teams fighting for their places France has impressed, topping the Men s group with maximum points. Spain was the surprise of the day. Having performed well in the European Cup test events this summer they could not reproduced their recent high standards. A - draw with world finalists Italy showed how close the Men s game is, but having qualified for the first time at this level nerves perhaps played their part. times World Champions Australia took full advantage of Spain s performances and secured their place in the semi-finals with a 9- win over Chinese Taipei. CANOE POLO France struggled to perform on Day losing -0 to New Zealand. Draws with Australia and Germany mean they still qualify for the semi-finals. Home nation Chinese Taipei Women surprised all with strong performances against the world s best women s teams. A narrow loss -5 to current World Games champions Germany and a well earned draw against New Zealand - pushed Australia bottom of the group a big surprise. Chinese Taipei is clearly an up and coming team for the future. CANOE POLO News Release WG Canoe Polo - Day Carnage in Kaohsiung The morning of day saw the wind destruction of the Lotus Pond venue by the small sister of typhoon Imbudo. The IWGA and KOC organisers are to be congratulated on a fantastic achievement in moving the finals of the canoe polo competition, with support from federation Team Leaders and athletes to the Kaohsiung International Swimming Pool. In just three hours all the equipment, boats and participants were moved to the new venue, an international working group made up of officials, organisers and team members worked hard to get the pool ready for the prestige finals, with world wide cooperation showing the bond that these sports men and women have for each other. The Women s semi final between Great Britain and France was first match on with France taking an early lead of yet unbeaten Great Britain. GB s equaliser just before half time clearly came as great relief for their team, but with no goals in the second half the match went to overtime (first goal wins) with a tense minutes before GB scored to reach the final.

CANOE POLO News Release Semi Final two saw New Zealand take on Germany for the second time in the day following a draw outside during the morning s qualification. Germany established an early advantage however the equaliser from New Zealand again took the match into overtime seeing Germany running out winners after four 5 minute periods of sudden death. The Women s semi final between Great Britain and France was first match on with France taking an early lead of yet unbeaten Great Britain. GB s equaliser just before half time clearly came as great relief for their team, but with no goals in the second half the match went to overtime (first goal wins) with a tense minutes before GB scored to reach the final.
