General Information Recent New York Rangers Games Last 5 NYR games: 2-2 - 1 Last 10 NYR games: 4-5 - 1 The Rangers face-off against their division rivals, the Philadelphia Flyers, tonight at the Wachovia Center (7:00 p.m.) in the first game of back-to-back road contests. New York enters the contest having been defeated by the Hurricanes, 3-1, on Tuesday at the RBC Center and have now earned at least one point in five of their last eight contests (4-3-1). Following today's contest, the Rangers will travel to New Jersey tomorrow, February 1, to take on the Devils at the Prudential Center (7:00 p.m.). Brendan Shanahan opened the game's scoring with a four on three goal at 1:02 of the first period off a feed from Scott Gomez and Jaromir Jagr. Carolina responded with two second period goals by Sergei Samsonov and Rod Brind'Amour. The Hurricanes notched their third goal of the game early in the final frame, and Cam Ward stopped 34 shots to snap the Rangers' two-game winning streak. Henrik Lundqvist made 24 saves in the loss. Scott Walker (CAR) January 24, 2008 : Rangers 2, Thrashers 1 (SO): The Rangers honored former defenseman, Brian Leetch, in a pre-game ceremony by retiring his #2 to The Garden rafters, and then defeated the Atlanta Thrashers, 2-1, in a shootout on January 24 at Madison Square Garden. After a scoreless first period, Marian Hossa tallied the game's first goal, on the power play, in the first 45 seconds of the second frame. The Thrashers protected their lead into the third period until Michal Rozsival beat Atlanta goalie, Johan Hedberg (32 saves), with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation. In the shootout, Brendan Shanahan converted on his attempt in the first round and Henrik Lundqvist (17 saves) stopped all three Atlanta attempts to give the Rangers their third win in the last five games. Nigel Dawes and Brandon Dubinsky each picked up an assist on Rozsival's third period goal.

New York pulled out a two-goal lead after the first period on tallies by Sean Avery and Brandon Dubinsky. The Rangers added to their lead in the second period, with a shorthanded goal by Martin Straka at 8:36. Jaromir Jagr (one goal and two assists) capped off the game's scoring early in the final frame off a feed from Scott Gomez (two assists) and Fedor Tyutin (three assists). Henrik Lundqvist (14 saves) became the first Rangers goalie to post seven shutouts in a season since Eddie Giacomin accomplished the feat during the 1970-71 season, and Tyutin's three assists/points were a career-high. Chris Drury also collected an assist in the win, and the 14 shots against were the fewest total allowed by the Rangers since January 28, 2006 vs. Pittsburgh (14 shots allowed). Chuck Kobasew (one goal and one assist) put the Bruins on the board first with an even strength goal at 17:53 of the opening frame. After the two teams skated through a scoreless second period, Boston extended their lead to three goals behind third period tallies by Glen Metropolit and Phil Kessel. Brandon Dubinsky ended Tim Thomas's (30 saves) shutout bid with 44 seconds remaining, but the Rangers did not have enough time to pull even. The Bruins responded with two straight goals by Marco Sturm (one goal and one assist) and Chuck Kobasew (two goals) to head into the final frame with a one-goal lead. The Blueshirts tied the game early in the third period with a goal by Jaromir Jagr (one goal and two assists), and reclaimed the lead minutes later with a Sean Avery power play tally. Kobasew tied the game at 9:30 of the third period with his second goal of the game, and the two teams remained deadlocked after 65 minutes of hockey. In the shootout, Phil Kessel and Zdeno Chara both converted and Tim Thomas (25 saves) stopped both Rangers attempts. Henrik Lundqvist made a season-high, 36 saves and stopped one of three in the shootout, and Michal Rozsival and Martin Straka both collected an assist in the loss. NYR Recent Highlights October -On October 4, the Rangers kicked off their 81st season at home, defeating the Florida Panthers, 5-2, marking the second consecutive year the Blueshirts have won a season opener at MSG. Jaromir Jagr tallied two assists, and is now tied for first all-time (Ray Bourque) for most career points in season openers with 30 points (nine goals and 21 assists). -The Rangers defeated the Washington Capitals, 3-1, in the front end of back-to-back home games on October 12 at MSG. Scott Gomez tallied his first goal/point as a Ranger on his way to earning Second Star honors. Jaromir Jagr (First Star) recorded three assists on the night and, with his second assist, passed Paul Coffey for 11th on the NHL's all-time scoring list. -Jaromir Jagr tallied his 100th goal as a Ranger on October 13 vs. Ottawa. -Through the first nine games, the Rangers surrendered 16 goals in regulation/overtime for an NHL best 1.76 goals against average during the span. It also marked the first time since the 1939-40 season the Blueshirts have allowed fewer than 17 goals in regulation/overtime through their first nine games, when they allowed 13 goals, and ranks second in franchise history. -Brendan Shanahan tallied two goals and added an assist on October 29 vs. Tampa Bay. With his third point of the game, he became the 29th player in NHL history to record 1,300 career points (630 goals and 670 assists). November -Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 31 shots on November 1 vs. Washington en route to his third shutout of the season and 10th of his career. He needed only 131 starts to reach 10 shutouts, becoming the third fastest to the mark in franchise history (1. G. Villemure - 102 starts; 2. E. Giacomin - 110 starts). -The Rangers closed out a six-game homestand, their longest of the season, with a 2-0 win vs. the Flyers on November 5 to post a 5-1-0 record over the stretch. New York yielded only six goals, holding each of their opponents scoreless in 20 times shorthanded. Henrik Lundqvist started each of the six games, posting a 0.83 goals against average, a.968 save percentage and three shutouts and Brendan Shanahan registered six points (three goals and three assists) in the six games. -New York defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-3, in overtime on November 17 at Mellon Arena behind four goals scored by their defensemen. It was only the 15th time in franchise history the Rangers registered 10 or more wins in a single month and was one win shy of tying the record for most wins in a month (six times, last - December 1996). December -The Rangers shutout the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-0, on December 18 at Madison Square Garden. Henrik Lundqvist made 18 saves en route to his career-high, sixth shutout of the season. Michal Rozsival also set a personal best with three assists in the win. -New York tallied five power play goals to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs, 6-1, December 29 at the Air Canada Centre. The five goals were the most for the Rangers on the man advantage since March 9, 1996 at Washington. Several Blueshirts achieved milestones in the game - Jaromir Jagr passed Larry Murphy for 14th on the all-time assists list (930 assists) and moved into third place all-time with 111 career game-winning goals; Brendan Shanahan tied Dave Andreychuk for 11th all-time in goals with 640 career tallies; Scott Gomez extended his scoring streak to a career-high, 11 games; Martin Straka tallied his 250th career goal; and Paul Mara collected his 150th career assist. January -Scott Gomez was named to the NHL All-Star Eastern Conference team on January 11. -The Rangers have registered 40+ shots in three consecutive contests, outshooting their opponents 126-72 over the span, including - 41 shots on January 10 vs. Philadelphia, 41 shots on January 12 vs. Montreal and 44 shots on January 14 at Pittsburgh. The last time the Blueshirts posted 40+ shots in three consecutive games was February 27, 1996 to March 1, 1996 (139 shots). -Brandon Dubinsky and Marc Staal were named to the NHL YoungStars Eastern Conference team on January 15. -The Rangers defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 2-1, on January 16 at Madison Square Garden. Including seven games from the 2006 and 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Rangers have sold out 107 consecutive games. -The Blueshirts held the Atlanta Thrashers to 14 shots on goal in a 4-0 victory, January 22 at Madison Square Garden. The shot total marked the fewest allowed by the Rangers since a 7-1 win on January 28, 2006 vs. Pittsburgh (14 shots allowed). With the shutout, Henrik Lundqvist became the first Ranger to record seven shutouts in a season since Eddie Giacomin in 1970-71, and Fedor Tyutin tallied a career-high, three assists/points in the win.

-The Rangers honored former defenseman, Brian Leetch, in a pre-game ceremony by retiring his #2 to The Garden rafters, and then defeated the Atlanta Thrashers, 2-1, in a shootout on January 24 at Madison Square Garden. Leetch joins Eddie Giacomin (#1), Rod Gilbert (#7), Mark Messier (#11), and Mike Richter (#35) as the fifth Rangers player to receive the honor. During the ceremony, Leetch announced that Adam Graves will be next to join this distinguished group of former Blueshirts when his #9 is retired during the 2008-09 season. -Three Rangers' players - Scott Gomez, Brandon Dubinsky and Marc Staal - represented their team at the 2008 NHL All-Star Weekend festivities at Philips Arena in Atlanta. On Saturday, Dubinsky and Staal led the Eastern Conference to a 7-6 win in the NHL YoungStars Game. Dubinsky notched two goals and an assist to capture MVP honors, and Staal tallied one goal and one assist. On Sunday in the 56th NHL All-Star Game, Gomez collected an assist and won five of eight faceoffs (63%) in 13:26 of icetime to help the Eastern Conference to an 8-7 win.

Tom Renney New York Rangers Head Coach Is now in his third season as Head Coach and eighth season with the Rangers. After being named the 33rd head coach in franchise history on July 6, 2004, Renney has led the Rangers to 40-or-more wins in consecutive seasons, a feat last accomplished by the club in 1974.
