OFFICIAL LEINSTER SUPPORTERS CLUB GUIDE TO WASPS LEINSTER V WASPS RICOH ARENA SATURDAY 24TH JANUARY 2015

Banking at the speed of life Download the tablet app #SpeedOfLife Daily limits, terms and conditions apply, see website for details. Bank of Ireland is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.

Introduction It s been a while since Leinster supporters have had the opportunity to visit a new ground whilst following the boys in blue in Europe. Traditionally known as London Wasps our opponents this weekend were based in High Wycombe for the last 12 years. In November 2014 after buying the Higgs Charities 50% share of the Ricoh Arena, the team moved location and played their first game in their new home prior on 21 December 2014 vs London Irish (they won 48-16). Coventry is located in the West Midlands and was founded in 1043. Located just 31kms from Birmingham city centre, the university town has a population of approximately 330,000 people and even has three cathedrals, the most recent being built in the mid 1940 s. From the city centre there is much to see and do, most of which can be done on foot. There are many attractions in the centre some of which are free, see our suggestions later in the guide. Those not staying in Coventry itself should be aware of last train times on Saturday night, again these are included later in the guide. Leinster s last away game against Wasps was in the quarter-final of the Amlin Challenge Cup at High Wycombe in April of 2013, that day saw a 28-48 win to the boys in blue Dublin Airport information Those driving to Dublin Airport this weekend can avail of a 20% discount on all non-promotional rates at www.dublinairport.com by quoting OLSC14/15. Aircoach also run frequent services to/from the airport, fixed taxi fares are also available from www.irelandbytaxi.com Getting to Coventry We expect the vast majority of supporters who are flying in to the region for the game to use Birmingham International Airport (BHX). Located 11 km from the Coventry and 35 minutes from Birmingham city centre, there is excellent rail links from the airport to both locations. Birmingham airport will be familiar to many supporters from away games over the years, regular trains run from the airport station and are priced from just 1.60 there s no need to buy in advance although it may save queuing at the station on arrival. Typically trains operated by Virgin are fast and those operated by London Midland are slow just something to bear in mind. Train tickets for both operators can be purchased from www.virgintrains.co.uk If you are arriving into Coventry by train, the station is located 5-10 minutes walk from the centre. Our supporters HQ is also nearby.

Supporters HQ The OLSC has arranged a central location for supporters to meet whilst in Coventry regardless of if you are travelling in a group on your own. Leigh and the team at the Gatehouse Tavern will act as our base this weekend, a traditional rugby pub located on the way into town and a kilometer from the central train station, they will be opening early (from 8am) on Saturday for those arriving on early trains. Food is served throughout the day, on Saturday morning supporters can avail of a pint with a breakfast bap for just 5. There s also a card you can pick up from the bar, when you buy 10 pints within your group you get one free. The Gatehouse tavern has a variety of beverages on offer including a rotating list of guest Ales, they also have free wifi and both Sky Sports and BT Sports so that supporters can watch the other European Champions Cup action from across the weekend. On exiting Coventry station keep left onto Eaton road. At top of road veer left and take ramp/steps down to underpass. At other side keep right. Pathway follows a slip road connecting to the ring road. Take next underpass and on exiting keep left onto Queen Victoria road. At top of road keep left onto Corporation Street. Follow Corporation Street passing Ikea and Town Crier Pub. At church turn left. This is Hill Street and Gatehouse is at the top on the right. www.gatehousetavern.com / @TheGatehouseTav Flags and being blue! The OLSC team will have a very limited number of flags that will be distributed around the ground on the day. Please bring what you can from home, those with the white plastic pole have been cleared as hand luggage by the Dublin Airport Authority. If you need a news scarf, beanie, jacket or jersey, head to Lifestyle Sports with your plastic season ticket card to avail of a 10% discount. Online you can avail of the discount at www.lifestylesports.com by using the code OLSC2013 Pre and post match entertainment at the stadium Wasps will be opening their Jaguar room at the stadium at the same time as the gates on Saturday (11am). The room is very large and will have food and bars along with a live band and will be open until 10pm. The Northampton v Racing Metro and Ulster v Leicester games will also be on the big screens after our game. G casino is located at the stadium and is open 24 hours a day, there are both bars and catering facilities on site. There s also a hotel that backs on to the stadium but beware that if you are in a room facing the pitch you ll more likely be asked to vacate by 9.30am as it doubles as a corporate entertainment facility on match days. Match day stadium information Ricoh Arena (often referred to as the City of Coventry Stadium or the Ricoh) was constructed in 2005 and extended in 2010. Having hosted football in the 2012 Olympics the 32,609 capacity stadium is now home to Wasps in addition to Coventry City (football) and the Coventry City Ladies. The easiest way to get there is to take the frequent and free shuttle buses from the central railway stadium. These will be operating from two hours before kick-off until 5pm. A smaller number of shuttle buses will also operate from Warwick Parkway station.

The Ricoh Arena is located at Phoenix Way, Foleshill, Coventry CV6 6GE. Telephone: + 44 844 873 6500 Email: info@ricoharena.com Twitter: @ricoharena Our away allocation was scattered and we know many UK based supporters bought directly from Wasps. We expect the single biggest area of the blue army to be the Higgs Charity stand. Check the area number on your ticket and you ll see on the map opposite what turnstile to use at the stadium. Stadium car parking Traffic around the ground on match days is known to be very heavy. If you do drive you must pre book your car parking at www.ricoharenacarparking. co.uk, alternatively you could park in the city centre and avail of the free shuttle buses on offer. If pre booking your space and you are using a rental car, you won t know your car registration number yet, in this case use A1 online. Taxis Beside the ground there is a 24 hour casino, Tesco Extra, M&S and Next (as part of a retail park). From here you could take a taxi but beware you may get stuck in traffic; a taxi should be circa 10 pounds each way from the city centre (for up to 4 people). Away from the ground, taxis can normally be hailed in the normal way, if you need to call a taxi we d recommend Central Taxis of Coventry at + 44 24 7677 7777, www.centraltaxiscoventry. co.uk or their iphone/android app. Our recommendation would be to use the shuttle buses whatever possible. 5 top things to do this weekend 1. Wasps vs Leinster at Ricoh Arena, KO 1.00pm on Saturday 2. Coventry Cathedral in the city centre www.coventrycathedral.org.uk 3. Coventry Blaze take in a game of ice hockey on Sunday, www.coventryblaze.co.uk 4. Coventry Transport Museum in the city centre, www.transport-museum.com 5. Rugby A 10 minute train ride from Coventry, the birthplace of rugby football For all further tourist information please see www.visitcoventryandwarwickshire.co.uk Last trains from Coventry For those not staying in Coventry, be aware of the last trains on Saturday night to avoid a potentially expensive taxi ride or unexpected overnight stay. Stratford upon Avon 8.25pm Leamington Spa 9.25pm London Euston 10.48pm Birmingham International Airport 11.30pm Birmingham New Street (City Centre) 11.30pm Rugby - 11.31pm Train tickets can be booked at www.virgintrains. co.uk regardless of the train company you are using. A taxi between the stadium and the train station is about a 10-15 minute journey each way (note it will take longer immediately before or after the game).

Message from the Coach Round Six. One last round to go in another European campaign but of course a first in the new guise of the Champions Cup. From a team point of view the impact of the new format has been minimal structurally but of course with less teams the standard increases as does the pressure on qualification for the knock out stages. There is also of course the knock on effect on the Guinness PRO12 with meritocracy now playing its part. You only have to look at some of the recent performances Connacht closer to these parts but even Scarlets beating Ospreys teams are scrapping for every point in the PRO12 with a view to qualifying for next season s Champions Cup. That extra competitive edge has been very evident in all our games this year but I think at this stage in the season, we can be reasonably happy with where we are at. From now on though, the consistency that we demand of each other in terms of our performances needs to be evident. A first trip to the Ricoh Arena for all of us is a step into the unknown. The move was a contentious issue at the time and a lot of the Wasps supporters were unhappy but for the club, it is probably for the right reasons. They will of course hope to bring some of their London fans with them, but it is a great chance to build a new supporter base and to grow in the Coventry area. I think that it was too good to resist as opposed to competing against all the other London clubs, regardless of sport. The impact on the team has been very evident. Some very impressive performances and results but it makes sense; a new ground, stadium and facilities has the ability to bring a group together and to galvanise. It has certainly done that. It is though an intangible how do you account for an atmosphere and a fervour that a new ground and fans can bring? but nonetheless we need to be prepared for whatever comes at us. Thinking back to Castres and Quins I know that you the supporters will again play your part and when our players go to the wall, they will hear your voices urging them on. We have built a fortress in the RDS and on Saturday in the Ricoh we need to recreate as much of that as possible. Plenty of noise and plenty of blue. Safe travels and thanks as always for being our intangible. Matt O Connor Head Coach, Leinster Rugby

Message from the OLSC Committee. Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more The final game of the pool stages finds Leinster facing a familiar foe on an unfamiliar battlefield. With London Wasps very recent move to the Ricoh Arena in Coventry the Blue Army is marching forward to pastures new. Once again it comes down to the final round of games to determine who goes forward from Pool 2 to the knock out stages of the Champions Cup and who goes home. With all the permutations still in play it is vitally important that Leinster secure an away victory and the travelling supporters have an integral part to play in this. It is not for nothing that both coaches and players have come out in recent times stressing the importance to the players of seeing the patches of blue within a stadium, the flags waving and hearing the chants of Leinster ringing out. It is for the supporters to bring a little of the RDS Fortress with us on the road. With over 32,000 seats in the Ricoh Arena it is more important than ever that we make our presence felt, we wear our blue, wave our flags and chant our chants to lift our team when times get tough and hopefully roar them on to victory. A change of home ground for London Wasps gives those travelling supporters who ve been to High Wycombe for previous games the opportunity to explore a new city and Coventry and the surrounding Warwickshire countryside offers something for everyone. Wasps are very excited about their new home and will be opening their Jaquar room at the Ricoh on Saturday. There ll be bars, food and live music on offer so make sure you get to the ground early (it opens at 11am) so you can soak up some of the atmosphere and be in your seats nice and early as the boys warm up on the pitch. Finally, our Supporters HQ for the weekend will be the Gatehouse Tavern on Hill Street, whether travelling alone or in a group do pop in, Leigh and his team are waiting for us on Saturday morning when the bulk of the blue army are expected to arrive in Coventry, we may see you there for breakfast! Be seen- be heard be blue! C mon Leinster The OLSC Committee
