2008 Memphis Grizzlies Summer League Notes 2007-08 RECAP The Grizzlies look to rebound after posting a disappointing 22-60 record in 2007-08, marking the second consecutive season Memphis finished with 22 victories The Grizzlies went through a period of adjustment after trading the franchise s all-time leading scorer Pau Gasol on February 1, but started to gel on both sides of the ball at the end of the season winning seven of their last 17 games (105.6 points per game over that span). BLOCKBUSTER TRADE The Memphis Grizzlies completed a blockbuster eight-player trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves on draft night (June 26) to acquire the draft rights to versatile guard O.J. Mayo, who has been grabbing national headlines since he played on the varsity squad as a seventh grader for Rose Hill Christian School in Ashland, Kentucky In addition to Mayo (3 rd overall), Memphis received guards Marko Jaric and Greg Buckner and forward Antoine Walker and the Minnesota received the draft rights to forward Kevin Love (5 th ), guard Mike Miller, forward Brian Cardinal and center Jason Collins. PASS THE O.J., HOLD THE MAYO Guard O.J. Mayo, the highest draft selection (3 rd ) from the 2008 NBA Draft participating in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, will make his debut with the Grizzlies Mayo, who averaged 20.7 points, 3.3 assists and 1.6 steals as a freshman last season at USC, is the highest-drafted Trojan ever, surpassing NBA great Paul Westphal (10 th, 1972).
