Off the Schnide: River Cats INF Chris Carter hit his first home run of the season last night, a two-run shot off the clubhouse in left field...was the ninth game he has played this season...also hit his first home run in his ninth game a season ago with Sacramento...went on to hit 18 homers and drive in 72 runs despite appearing in just 75 games for Sacramento...last night s home run was the 171st of Carter s MiLB career...also has three MLB home runs, all coming with Oakland in 2010...Carter s career high for long balls came in 2008 with Single-A Advanced Stockton, when he hit 39...has hit at least 20 combined home runs in five-straight seasons. Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosy: Cats INF Grant Green had two hits last night, both against Aces LHP Tom Layne...on the season, Green is hitting.533 (8x15) against lefties and just.167 (4x24) against righties...last season with Double-A Midland, Green hit.329 against lefties and.272 against righties...in his MiLB career, Green has hit a combined.273 (227x833) against right-handers and.357 (119x333) against lefties. Saving Grace(s): The River Cats bullpen is a perfect four-for-four in save opportunities so far this season... manager Darren Bush has called on four different relievers to close games...rhp Merkin Valdez, RHP Neil Wagner, RHP Jim Miller and RHP Evan Scribner are all one-for-one in save opportunities...the quartet has combined for 242 minor league saves...scribner (60), Wagner (45) and Valdez (15) have combined for 120 saves... Miller leads the pack with 122...Miller recorded a career-high 34 saves in 2005 between Single-A Advanced Modesto (25-for- 28) and Double-A Tulsa (9-for-10)...also has one career MLB save, with Baltimore (9/11/08 vs. Cleveland). Double Trouble: River Cats C Derek Norris hit another double last night...tied for the league lead with six two-baggers (with OF Michael Taylor and three others)...also has a triple and two home runs this season...also tied for the league lead with nine extra-base hits (with Fresno s Roger Kieschnick)...nine of Norris 14 hits have gone for extra bases (64.3%)...his career-high for extra base hits came in 2009 with Single-A Hagerstown, when he had 53 extra-base knocks (30 doubles, 23 home runs). Not So Fast, My Friend: Norris has also been spectacular behind the plate as well, throwing out six-ofeight potential base stealers...six caught stealings are tops in the PCL...no other catcher in all of Triple-A baseball has thrown out more than four potential base stealers in 2012...his.750 percentage is also tops in Triple-A baseball for any catcher with more than three stolen base attempts against him...last season with Double-A Harrisburg, Norris led the Eastern League in gunning down runners, throwing out 40.2% of potential base stealers. Close Shaves: After dropping their first one-run game of the season at Las Vegas on 4/6, the River Cats have won three-straight one-run contests...defeated Tucson at Kino Stadium 5-4 (4/9) and 3-2 (4/11) before their 5-4 win against Reno last night...since scoring 18 runs on 4/10 at Tucson, the Cats have managed to plate just seven total runs in their last four games (2-2 over stretch)...both wins since 4/10 have been by one run.
