For more information visit our website at www.elcometer.com 1 ABOUT YOUR DEPTH CHECKER The Elcometer 2060 ISO Groove Depth Checker is a precision instrument used to determine the accuracy of fineness of grind gauges in accordance with ISO standards. The instrument is set to zero and then placed on the fineness of grind gauge with the measuring needle resting on the bottom of the tapered groove. The depth of the groove at that point is shown on the display. Three readings are taken to provide an average depth at each graduation point along the tapered groove. The average depth must not differ by more than 3 µm (0.12 mils) from the nominal value at each graduation point. 1.1 STANDARDS The Elcometer 2060 ISO Groove Depth Checker can be used in accordance with the following standards: DIN EN ISO NF 21524 ISO 1524 2

PRESET R TOL. 2 USING YOUR INSTRUMENT When using the instrument, take care not to damage the V-shaped edge of the rule or the surface of the glass zero plate. When taking a measurement, always hold the instrument by the plastic thermal insulation strips either side of the rule. 2.1 ZERO THE INSTRUMENT 1. Press the ON/OFF button to switch on the instrument. 2. Place the glass zero plate on a flat surface. 3. Hold the instrument on the glass plate perpendicular to the surface of the glass. 4. Press the ZERO button and check that the display shows 0.000 ZERO/ABS 0.000mm ON/OFF 4
R 2.2 TAKING A READING 1. Having set the instrument to zero, place the instrument on the surface of the fineness of grind gauge at the deepest end. 2. Align the measuring needle with a graduation mark on the scale of the fineness of grind gauge and the centre line of the groove (position B). 3. Check that the instrument is perpendicular to the surface of the fineness of grind gauge with the measuring needle touching the bottom of the tapered groove. 4. Record the depth of the groove from the display. 5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 above at each side of the groove (positions A and C). 6. Calculate the average of the three readings. When taking a reading, always hold the gauge here. If the average groove depth differs by more than 3 µm (0.12 mils) from the nominal value at the graduation point, the fineness of grind gauge is faulty and must be repaired or replaced. 7. Repeat steps 1 to 6 above at each graduation point of the fineness of grind gauge. 2.3 AFTER USE When you have finished taking readings, replace the instrument and glass zero plate in the protective case provided.
