Mentor Public Schools The Cornerstone of the Community The Shore Stakeholder www.mentorschools.net/shore A Message from the Principal Dear Shore Community Member, Shore s Follow the Schedule Night for parents of 7th and 8th grade students is on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 6-8:00. Parents will report to their child s FRIDAY ADVI- SORY class to pick up their child s schedule to follow through the evening. PTSA will also be on hand to take new memberships for $5! The Mentor Orchestra Association is also available to speak with this evening as well! A BLANK COPY OF THE SCHEDULE IS ON p. 2 for your son/daughter to fill in for you. Copies will also be available when you report to FRIDAY ADVISORY on September 22. Thank you to the several families that placed orders for the first Market Day held at Shore! Your support for this monthly program is greatly appreciated! October s pickup date is October 3 from 3:30-4:30. Internet orders need to be placed by 9/28/11 at www.marketday.com use #28993 as Shore s account number! You can also be thinking ahead for the holidays by ordering pies through Market Day for November s order! Thanks to Mrs. O Connor for leading this monthly fundraiser! Shore s students and staff wrote out several hundred notes last week which were delivered to Shore Science teacher, Mrs. Coolbaugh, as she continues to battle cancer. Mrs. Coolbaugh s energy and presence at Shore is missed by her colleagues and students and the well-wishes have helped brighten her days this past week! Thanks to the following Shore parents that assisted with AIMSWEB testing this past week! This is a huge endeavor three times/year and can t be done without a lot of teamwork! Mrs. Mullee, Mrs. Wiseley, Mrs. Oddo, Mrs. Jenisek, Mrs. Unetich, Mrs. Sutton, and Mrs. DiNovo! Shore PTSA does a great job of supporting students and staff throughout the school year! Please consider joining the Shore PTSA volunteer some time this year! Be actively involved with your child here at Shore in some capacity. We welcome it and look forward to continuing to build positive relationships with our parent community. A form is available in this edition to turn in to the Main Office. PTA Reflections: It is that time of year again. Shore PTSA is starting its Reflections Art Program. The PTA Reflections program is an arts recognition program that gives children from preschool through grade 12 an opportunity to express themselves in any of six arts areas: dance choreography, film/video production, literature, musical composition, photography, or visual arts. Each year, the students are challenged to create works of art relating to a specific theme. The students works are recognized by the PTA s at the local, district, state and national levels. All work must be done exclusively by the student and must illustrate the theme of Diversity Means... Students may submit as many entries as they would like to the MAIN OFFICE by Monday, November 21. BE SURE TO FOL- LOW THE RULES FOR YOUR CATEGORY. Extra enrty forms and detailed rules for each category are in the MAIN OFFICE. They had beaten a team that they had lost to last year as 7th grade students! Mrs. Randall, Miss Janoso, and Mr. Miller spent a good part of their Tuesday evening cutting the 535 feet of yoga mat rolls for their 2.5 activity! Thanks for taking the time to prepare the mats for the students! ASL at Shore Shore American Sign Language Club will be meeting for the first time on October 3, from 4:00-5:00 in Room 118. This group will be learning ASL from one of our 8th grade students, Alyssa Basile, and her interpreter Miss Cox. The RED OUT proved very successful for the 7th grade volleyball team as they defeated Willoughby in 3 sets Tuesday! However, the 8th grade team didn t fare as well, but they sure had a lot of support at their game! Frogs will be distributed next week to students that sold two or more subscriptions and prizes of the Cici s lunch and Kalahari Trip will be announced once the representative from GREAT AMERICAN picks up and processes the orders.
