NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON Traditional conservation of Plant biodiversity and Energy resources vis-à-vis Biotechnological tools for sustainability December 25-26, 2010 Dear Colleagues, It gives us immense pleasure to invite you to the National Conference on Traditional conservation of Plant biodiversity and Energy resources vis-à-vis Biotechnological tools for sustainability which is being organized jointly by the Society for Plant Research and the Department of Botany, C. C. S. University, Meerut. Biodiversity is under stress all over the world and the gene pool for endangered species is receding. India being richest in having enormous wealth of natural plant resources need sincere efforts for their conservation either through traditional practices or by using biotechnological tools. Biotechnology is the science of 21 st century having the potential for conservation of biodiversity & energy along with agriculture reform and prevention of health disorders etc. It has revolutionized the modern science scenario through genetically modified crops, transformed and transgenic plants, isolation, sequencing and cloning of genes for vaccine and pharmaceutical production etc. Society for Plant Research, established in 1988 at the Department of Botany, Bareilly College, Bareilly has its administrative office in the Department of Cell Biology, College of Biotechnology, SVP University of Agriculture & Technology, Meerut. This society has so far organized six national level conferences on Biotechnology, Biodiversity, Eco-restoration and related thrust areas since 1994. SPR is publishing a biannual International journal VEGETOS (ISSN 0970-4078) which has not only entered in 23 rd year of its publication but is being indexed by Thomson Reuters with an IMPACT FACTOR of 0.03, CABI, Elsevier, Indian Science Abstract, MAAPA and NAAS (IMPACT FACTOR awaited). Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, the host of present conference is prestigious because of being a leader in the field of Botany and Plant Sciences through the ages. The Society for Plant Research is fortunate to have its road map amidst the beautiful, lush green academic campus of this university. You are welcome to this scientific assemblage (S K BHATNAGAR)
THEMES Major thrust areas being covered by the present conference are Plant Biodiversity, Bio-energy, its conservation and Biotechnology which include the following sub areas. Plant Biodiversity and its conservation through traditional and biotechnological means Environment, Green Energy and Global change Biotechnology in Commercial sectors Microbiology, Bio- fertilizers and Bio-control Value addition to agriculture produce, organic produce and export potential Additional income generation via sustainable integrated agriculture SPR S AWARDS Society for Plant Research provides various awards as instituted and approved by its Executive Body and National Screening Committee including FELLOWS OF SPR (FSPR) awards. Nominations along with detailed biodata for SPR s Fellow awards should be submitted to the Secretary General, SPR latest by NOVEMBER 30, 2010. PRESENTATION There will be two categories of presentations in the sessions on Plant Biodiversity, Bioenergy, Biotechnology and Agricultural produce. 1. Plenary lectures/invited lectures 2. Oral presentations of contributed papers. BEST PAPER & BEST POSTER AWARD Best paper and Best Poster presentation awards, as adjudged by the panelists, shall be given to young scientists. ABSTRACTS Abstracts should be submitted in the format given below : Title: All in capital bold letters of 14 pt, left aligned. Authors: All in capital bold letters of 12 pt, left aligned. Address: All in capital, normal and 8 pt, left aligned. Text: Running in TIMES NEW ROMAN, 10 pt, left aligned and not exceeding 300 words. Keywords (4-5) be provided at the end of abstract. Abstracts along with the REGISTRATION FEES and duly filled REGISTRATION FORM should reach the Organizing Secretary on or before DECEMBER 10, 2010. ACCOMMODATION Accommodation is limited and the delegates will be placed in Guest Houses and Hostels of the universities. Meerut has excellent HOTELS and the tariff ranges from Rs. 500.00 to Rs. 1500.00 (double bed occupancy) per day. The Scientists/delegates willing to avail hotel accommodation should inform the Organizers latest by November 30, 2010 along with an advance of Rs. 1000.00 for booking.
