WEEKLY NAVIGATIONAL BULLETIN NO.26 FOR THE RIVER TEES, HARTLEPOOL AND TEES BAY Issued by the Harbour Master on 02 November PD TEESPORT DREDGING, SURVEY AND BUOY- MAINTENANCE CRAFT These craft work as and when required anywhere in the harbour; up-to-date information on their positions and intentions is available at all times from the Port Operations Centre. CURRENT DRAFT FORMULAE The Current Working Draft Formulae are based on the actual depths as shown on the latest berth and channel sounding charts available and should be used in establishing drafts/times of entry in the short term i.e. ONLY up to a day or two ahead. The Draft Formulae for Planning Purposes are based as above, but limited by tolerance depths where applicable and these MUST be used in establishing drafts for longer term planning, chartering etc. In either case, the formulae quoted provide for minimum static underkeel clearance: River Tees: Hartlepool: 2.3m the Sea Reach and 0.9m in the River Channel and for berthing, except those berths marked*, where clearance is 0.5m for berthing, and berths marked **, where a clearance of 1.5m applies in respect of ships over 122m OAL. Underkeel clearance dependent on beam of ship. NB: For Redcar Ore Terminal and ConocoPhillips vessels, the maximum permissible draught is based on high water height and the above underkeel clearances. The time required to undertake the passage means that the underkeel clearance may be less than stated above at some stages of the passage. Typically for an inward Redcar Ore Terminal vessel, she enters the Sea Reach 1½ hours before high water, when the underkeel clearance can be 1.9m and enters the River Channel 1 hour before high water, when the underkeel clearance can be 0.7m. Masters and Pilots are advised to include this consideration in their passage plan, particularly during periods of moderate or heavy swell. The Duty Assistant Harbour Master is to be consulted in all instances of heavily drafted vessels and those cases where approaching a berth from a particular direction may allow a deeper draft without impinging on the above minimum underkeel clearance. In formulating a vessel s passage plan, Masters/Pilots should take into consideration areas of shoaling within the navigable channel, as: 1. North Channel Line Between Wilton Engineering Riverside Berth and East Quay Haverton Hill, where depths of less than 4.6 m extend up to 15 metres into the channel. 2. South Channel Line NB: The channel is maintained and sounded only to point 100 metres upriver of Inter Terminals Riverside Terminal (marked by dredge limit buoys). Continuation Page No.2 OBSTRUCTIONS None. NAVIGATIONAL AIDS 1. Newport Bridge - Unlit. 2. Hartlepool No.4 buoy - Not operating to character 3. Town Hall (Hartlepool) - Lower light extinguished 4. Able Middlehaven inset dock outer - Removed for Repair ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 1. Able Seaton Port Basin TERRC has now been re-named Able Seaton Port. The draft formulae quoted on the attached sheets (where appropriate) for the Seaton Holding Basin apply only to the approaches to the basin; information about the depths on the various berths should be obtained from the berth operator. The draft formulae and least depth information for berth 11 do not include shoaling over 50m at the E end of the berth. 2. Dry-Docks The draft formulae quoted for A & P and UK Docks take into account the minimum depth on the approaches, including the dry dock cut (sill height has been excluded from this calculation). A UKC of 0.5m has been applied. The sill height for each dry dock is published in the Current Minimum Berth Depths sheet. 3. North Sea Supply Base H/L & No.1 The minimum depth quoted on the attached sheets (where appropriate) for North Sea Supply H/L & No.1 apply only from the upriver quay edge of the berth downriver. Any vessels wishing to overhang the upriver quay edge of the berth are by exception and consultation must be sought. 5. Quay Reconstruction Works - Tees Dock No.1 Foyle Marine will be conducting dredging operations within Tees Dock, commencing mid-june 2017. The marine plant involved in this operation will be Tug Gargal, Tug Green Chief, Pontoon P045, Split Hopper Barge B403. When not working, the preferred berthing location of this plant will be the dolphins on Tees Dock Ro-Ro No.1. Leask Marine will be conducting diving operations for a period of approximately one week. Diving is planned to take place on the Tees Dock roundhead, in the vicinity of the Harbour Masters Landing. For further information regarding this operation, contact the Duty Assistant Harbour Master. 6. Dredging - Seaton Channel Dredger "Reynaert" will be conducting dredging operations within Seaton Channel for a period of approximately 9 weeks. For further information regarding this operation, please contact the Duty Assistant Harbour Master. 662-102-1 (Rev 3) DHM\SG\HM.14\g:\admin\bulletin\weekly navigational bulletin.doc /Continued

Continuation Page No.3 7. Middlehaven Dock Construction work has now commenced to replace the existing footbridge with a road bridge. Middlehaven Dock is now closed to navigation. The Haven Sealift (Barge) will be assisting with the work. For further information regarding this operation, please contact the Harbour Master 8. Dawson s Quay No.2 Extension Draft formulae quoted from Dawson s Quay No.2 Extension include depths within a 125m x 18.5m pocket, 10m from the Tyne Tees Wharf. Depths within 10m of the quayside are not included in the calculations; therefore, no minimum berth depth is quoted 9. Channel Shoaling Note Shoaling is evident between Nos.9 and 11 Buoys where depths of less than 13.3m extend up to 50m into the channel. See attached Channel Shoaling Note dated 02 November 2017 for further information or contact the Duty Assistant Harbour Master. HARBOUR MASTER 662-102-1 (Rev 3) DHM\SG\HM.14\g:\admin\bulletin\weekly navigational bulletin.doc

CHANNEL SHOALING NOTE Issued by the Harbour Master on 02 November 2017 Shoaling is evident between Nos. 9 and 11 Buoys where depths of less than 13.3m extend up to 50m into the channel. The limit of this shoaling can be shown by a line joining the following positions: 54 38.098'N, 1 09.415'W, 54 38.067'N, 1 09.394'W, 54 38.029 N, 1 09.409'W, 54 38.013'N, 1 09.465'W On occasions when a vessel s passage plan can safely avoid the shoaling area described above and shown on the chartlet below (the limiting line is shown in orange), the following draught formulae may be used: Berth Draught Formula Least Depth Phillips No.1 Jetty 11.8m 12.7m Phillips No.2 Jetty 12.0m 12.9m Phillips No.4 Jetty 11.9m 12.8m Phillips No.5 Jetty 11.9m 12.8m Redcar Ore Terminal 12.0m 12.9m These exceptions are subject to acceptance on a case by case basis by the Duty Assistant Harbour Master and Pilot. There must be verbal agreement prior to the movement stating that: the increased draught formula is to be used; the limiting line is shown on the vessel s chart and the VTS display; and any additional requirements agreed are in place.
