P a g e 1 VIRTUAL TENNIS TOUR SEASON 2014 OFFICIAL RULEBOOK Edited by: Gianluca Comuniello, Gianluigi Ferrario, Simon Balestra, Paolo Rovere.

P a g e 2 THE GAME: The Virtual Tennis Tour is a fantasy game based on the wonderful world of tennis, both men s and women s tours. It is based on the ability to guess as many outcomes as possible of the matches selected every day of competition by the organizers. Every result guessed gives you some points. The game is structured similarly to the real ATP tennis circuit. In fact, to become number one you must progress through the rankings, by starting with the lower level tournaments until you get to play in the Grand Slam tournaments, so your virtual player will have a real career that depends on your skills. You can play challenger tournaments to improve your ranking and when your ranking is good enough, you can progress to the main tour. Each competition has its own unique characteristics, which will be explained in detail later on. The game is completely free.

P a g e 3 HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Participation is open to anyone throughout the year, subject to the schedule of the Virtual Tour. Understandably, the earlier you you start, the more you can play and the more points you can earn to improve your ranking. The process to join consists of two steps: a- Register on the site http://tennisvirtualtour.com/ b- Sign-up for the tournaments and start predicting the results that have been selected for you within the deadline which varies from tournament to tournament depending on where they play. The deadline may even vary during the tournament. After the last match of the day has finished the site will automatically update the points and send the next selection of matches to predict.

P a g e 4 THE DRAW AND THE SEEDINGS: The game is divided into three competitive levels. the main tour (Grand Slam, Masters 1000, ATP 500 and 250), the challenger tour and the Futures tournaments. To take part in any event you must register in the tournament s entry list which will open in the weeks preceding the tournament. Once the registration deadline has expired those with the best ranking are inserted directly into the main draw. They are joined by the players that come through the qualifiers, which are held 2 weeks before the tournament. In major tournaments, the organizers have two wild-cards, the related award criteria are set out in paragraph 5.1. After the entry list has been closed, the board of play is drawn. The seeding is based on the classifications of the week before the tournament. Once the entry list is complete the draw is made. The seeds are selected based on the ranking positions of each player in the week prior to the tournament. The number of seeds depends on the size of the draw: - 32 players -> 8 seeded - 64 players -> 16 seeded - 96 players -> 32 seeded The seeded players are placed in the draw are as follows: a- Seed n 1 will be placed in the first spot and the second seed in the 32nd spot (if the draw is 32 players), in the spot 64 (with 64) and spot 128 (with 96); a- to determine the location of the remaining seeded players see the table below:

P a g e 5 Seeds 32 Draw (8 seeds) 64 Draw (16 seeds) 96 Draw (32 seeds) 3-4 spot 9 and 24 spot 17 and 48 spot 33 and 96 5-8 spot 8, 16, 17 and 25 spot 16, 32, 33 and 49 spot 32, 64, 65 and 97 9-12 spot 9, 25, 40 and 56 spot 17, 49, 80 and 112 13-16 spot 8, 24, 41 and 57 spot 16, 48, 81 and 113 17-24 25-32 9, 24, 41, 56, 73, 88, 105 and 120 spot 8, 25, 40, 57, 72, 89, 104 and 121 Qualifiers are drawn together with the non-seeded players. On the board there may be byes, whose assignment and placement in the draw is: - If there are 32 or 64 players, there is no bye unless there isn t a sufficient number of direct enrollments. - If there is a draw of 96 players, each seeded player will be awarded a bye. After the draw, the details of the head to head match will be provided. Each day a number of matches (maximum 8) will be posted and the players must place what the outcome of the matches will be. Every player has to predict the winner and the number of sets played for the match chosen by the master of the game. If you guess the winner you will be assigned 3 points and there is one additional point if the set betting is accurate. If you fail to guess the winner, no points are available for the set betting. If you do not guess the correct winner you cannot earn the extra point for predicting the correct number of sets. The daily points scored by you are compared with the score of your opponent and the one who scores the most points wins the match and advances to the next round. The first round of the tournament is often played over several days, in this case we add the total score of the different days valid for the first round.

P a g e 6 TYPES OF TOURNAMENTS: Grand Slams All of the four Grand Slams will have 128 places available like the real Grand Slam events. The 112 players with the best ranking that have signed up for the event, will be admitted directly to the main draw. 64 places are available for the qualifications from which 16 players will gain access to the main draw. The schedule of these events will be released as the tournament approaches, as will the list of matches to predict. The points system is the same as all the other events, if you guess the winner you will be assigned 3 points and there is one additional point if the set betting is accurate. If you fail to guess the winner, no points are available for the set betting. If you do not guess the correct winner you cannot earn the extra point for predicting the correct number of sets. The points scored by you are compared with the score of your opponent and the one who scores the most points wins the match and advances to the next round. The first round of the tournament is often played over several days, in this case we add the total score of the different days valid for the first round. Master 1000 tournaments Masters 1000 tournaments are played with the knockout system, from the first round and as the real event, they all have a 64-player draw, with access restricted to 56 players with better rankings in the entry list, plus 8 qualifiers (the Virtual Tour organizers may increase the size of the draw). The tournaments at Indian Wells and Miami have a 96-player draw. Access to these two tournaments is reserved for the best 80 players of the entry list plus 16 players tht emerge from the 64 player qualifiers. The points system is the same as all the other events, if you guess the winner you will be assigned 3 points and there is one additional point if the set betting is accurate. If you fail

P a g e 7 to guess the winner, no points are available for the set betting. If you do not guess the correct winner you cannot earn the extra point for predicting the correct number of sets. The first round of the tournament is often played over several days, in this case we add the total score of the different days valid for the first round. ATP 500 and 250 tournaments The ATP 500 and 250 are played with the knockout system from the first round. They have a 64 or 32 players draw. The 64 player draw tournaments (Barcelona, Hamburg and Queen's) have guaranteed access for 56 players with best rankings in the entry list and plus 8 qualified players. The 32 draw tournaments have guaranteed access for 28 players with best rankings in the entry list and four qualified players. The first round of the tournament is often played over several days, in this case we add the total score of the different days valid for the first round. Challengers and Future tournaments The Challengers and Future events are played with the knockout system from the first round. They have 32 players draw and the best ranked 32 players that sign up will be allowed in the main draw.

P a g e 8 The points system is the same as all the other events, if you guess the winner you will be assigned 3 points and there is one additional point if the set betting is accurate. If you fail to guess the winner, no points are available for the set betting. If you do not guess the correct winner you cannot earn the extra point for predicting the correct number of sets. The first round of the tournament is often played over several days, in this case we add the total score of the different days valid for the first round. Virtual Tour Final The Top 7 of the Race standings at the end of the 1000 ATP Masters Paris Bercy are the qualifiers for the Virtual Tour Finals 2011. The winner of a Grand Slam tournament with the highest ranking out of the top 7 is eligible to take part in the Virtual Tour Finals only if he/she is in the top 20, otherwise, the eighth ranked player will be admitted. The draw will be made by pitting the top 4 seeds against the other four with the knockout system from the first round. The Challenger Finals will be played between the top 8 players in the special Challenger and Futures ranking. The top 25 players after Paris-Bercy will be automatically excluded. Grand Slam Cup This event is for the top 32 players in the Grand Slam rankings and it will award the same points of a Master 1000.

P a g e 9 The points system is the same as all the other events, if you guess the winner you will be assigned 3 points and there is one additional point if the set betting is accurate. If you fail to guess the winner, no points are available for the set betting. If you do not guess the correct winner you cannot earn the extra point for predicting the correct number of sets. The points scored by you are compared with the score of your opponent and the one who scores the most points wins the match and advances to the next round. CRITERIA FOR THE RESOLUTION OF DRAWS: In case of a tie in a single round, we proceed in the following order: a) the sum of scores throughout the tournament; b) score obtained in the previous round to the following one; c) if there is parity after the situation under point b, we consider the previous results by applying the same evaluation system; d) in case of absolute parity, the time factor will be considered -> who has posted first will go forward. If the first round is played over two or more days in the event of a tie, the maximum score obtained of the day will be considered. The time factor in this case is evaluated on the last day of the session.

P a g e 10 ENTRY LIST: The entry lists are the means through which the virtual player can enter the tournament of the week. Logically, it will be applied only to the tournaments with limited access, or those of the main tour. The challengers have no restrictions and qualifications of entry and are open to all players. The entry lists are opened and closed with an appropriate time, and allow regular access to major tournaments through a merit-based system of classification. In fact, if a tournament offers 50 seats for direct access, including those who have sent the registration to the tournament, only the 50-best ranking players between them have a pass directly to the main draw. The exception can play the qualifiers and the challenger of the week. Entries are updated daily, to keep you advised of the situation and how it is evolving. If in the same week there are two tournaments with limited access, the virtual player is required to enter only one tournament. It is important to consider where to register in order to stay in the main draw: it is indeed possible that a worst-ranked player than you might be able to enter a tournament when you might be excluded from the other one. Basically the system works exactly like the ATP. So you can only take part in one ATP World Tour event at a time. If you are excluded from the entry list you may sign up for 1 Challenger event. If you are also excluded from the Challenger then you can choose a Futures event. The entry lists to the World Tour events will close a week prior to the Challengers and Futures allowing the players that play the qualifiers to chose another minor event if they are eliminated.

P a g e 11 For Future tournaments the entry list deadline may be moved by the organizers to try and obtain full draw. HOW THE RANKING WORKS: We take into account the best 18 results (19 with the Virtual Tour Finals) regardless of the level of the event. There are two factors that will be considered when evaluating the players, 1) The entry tanking: the points accumulated during the last 52 week as indicated before. 2) Race to London: only considers the results from the beginning of the year. To determine the seeds, only the Entry Ranking will be used. The Race helps to clarify the situation of the year and is important to qualify for the Virtual Tour Finals as it does not consider the results of the previous year. On the Monday after Paris Bercy the points of the previous years Finals are eliminated making the Race and the Entry lists identical How to settle cases of equal points in the entry ranking: a) score in Slam, Master 1000 and Virtual Tour Finals; b) best results achieved in a 500, or a 250 or a Challenger (with any prize money); c) lowest number of tournaments played
