Ryukyu Kobudo Shimbukan Minnesota Seminar and Tournament October 4 12, 2013 Thank you for your interest in supporting our efforts to expand the Taira Akamine Lineage of Ryukyu Kobudo in the United States. This seminar series is an excellent opportunity to develop a solid foundation in the basics that are key to performing Kobudo Kata at a very high level. It will consist of two training sessions per day, led by Akamine Hiroshi Soke, the head of the Ryukyu Kobudo Shimbukan Association and President Emeritus of the Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinko Kai. Akamine Sensei will be assisted by several notable instructors. Thus far the following have confirmed participation; Yoshimoto Kagemasa Shian 6 th Dan Chief Instructor Kume Island Okinawa, Paul Vermiglio Shihan 6 th Dan Chief Instructor England, Tim Jurgens Shihan 5 th Dan Chief Instructor Minnesota, Kirii Kimihito Shidoin 4 th Dan Instructor Oomori Kaigan Dojo, Natsuno Dai Shidoin 4 th Dan Instructor Tama Dojo, and Takami Mine Shidoin 3 rd Dan Instructor Tama Dojo. There are several training sessions to choose from. Please indicate below which you are intending to join. The cost for joining one session alone is $30 if preregistered. If more than one session is selected then the cost will drop to $25 per session, with a maximum cost of $200 for the whole seminar. For those that miss the September 7, 2013 preregistration deadline an individual session will be $40 and multiple sessions will be $30 each with no cap, making the maximum price $300. There will also be two sessions prior to the official start of the seminar, which may be attended for a drop in fee of $5 each. On the 12 th we will host a tournament. Participation will be $30 for a single event, and $15 for additional events. Events include Kata, Kumite, and Kobudo. Kobudo will consist of three weapons categories, bo, sai, and a category consisting of Nunchaku, Tekko, Tonfa, Tinbe & Rochin, and Eku. Participants will be asked to indicate that they understand that there is an inherent risk in training in martial arts, particularly with weapons. The sponsors of this event will take all reasonable precautions to ensure a safe event however participants will agree to hold the sponsors, other participants, and locations harmless of any injury with the exception of willful misconduct. Grading fees are $40 for Kyu grades and will be based on the Yen to Dollar exchange rates for Dan grades. Currently a Shodan would cost 15,000 Yen or just over $150. All grades awarded will be issued by Akamine Soke. Only members in good standing will be graded. It would be rare but not impossible for participants to attend, join and attempt and pass a kyu grading all in one week. Participants should not anticipate attending and receiving a Dan grade without having been a member of the association for at least one year prior to this event. All decisions regarding membership and grading are at the discretion of Akamine Sensei.
