The penalty for infringing any safety rule is disqualification from the race.(rule 5.c.ii.) BOAT BUOYANCY (see Rule 5.a.i) Competitors must render their boats sufficiently buoyant to remain afloat and to support the crew in the event of capsize. Buoyancy must be fixed in the boat reasonably sufficiently [ ] inherent buoyancy provided by Vac-bag or sandwich construction is not alone sufficient and must be supplemented by adequate fixed additional flotation material or by the provision of sealed bulkheads. BOAT CHECK All boats will be checked by marshals prior to being allowed onto the water. Any boat that is clearly not compliant with the above rule will be refused entry onto the water. Any unchecked boat on the start line will be immediately disqualified. To avoid congestion alongside the river where embarkation and disembarkation occurs, we will be asking all boats to stay in the car parking area until your allocated time to go through boat check. There will be timed periods depending on your race start when you can present your boat for boat check! All competitors in under 10 and under 12 races must wear buoyancy aids. All buoyancy aids must comply with either the European standard EN393 or 395 or the International standard ISO 12402. Pangbourne Canoe Club race organisers may require buoyancy aids and spray decks to be worn and will have the final say as to who should wear them depending on the weather and water conditions (except where this is covered by Rule 5.a.v.)
Racing: Club Colours Paddlers must race in their club colours to be eligible for points and trophies. Paddlers should check that their class is quorate - 5 or more boats starting In the event of a non-quorate class (less than 5 boats starting), paddlers will be transferred to the most appropriate class which may be at another time or day. It is the paddler s responsibility to check this. The paddler is then deemed to be racing in the new class. Medals for non-quorate classes are not awarded. Disposable drink systems & littering- This is the paddler s responsibility All paddlers using disposable drink systems are required to mark ALL to be used during the race with their boat number. They will not be able to go through boat control without doing this, anyone refusing to do this will not be allowed to race and paddlers found with un-numbered bags during the race will be asked to leave the course. Any items discarded during the race must be recovered by the paddler, support crew or coach immediately. Any systems found or witnessed as being left, other than in a proper bin will be reported and this will lead to disqualification. The same applies to littering. Repeat infringements will be the subject of disciplinary proceedings by the MRC. Boat Numbers Team leaders will be given a pack of pre-numbered vertical number plates for all boats.
