Welcome to H.M. King High School. We are excited that we get to serve you by hosting this year s TECA State Championship Finals. We hope you have a great experience while you are here. We are very proud of our brand new school, fine arts center and sports complex. We take great pride in these great facilities and we ask that you please help us by picking up after yourself. All WGI rules will be strictly enforced such as, WEARING SHOES AT ALL TIMES outside the performance gym and/or indoor warm up areas. ABSOLUTELY NO GLITTER, CONFETTI, POWDER or DIRT allowed inside the gyms, especially during retreat. Thank you, Porfirio Mendez Jr. and H.M. King Band Staff

H.M. King HS TECA Championships Contest Information 1. Location, Directions and Map The Location of this contest is: H.M. King High School 2210 S. Brahma Blvd Kingsville, TX 78363 From San Antonio and North: Take I37 south towards Corpus Christi. Take exit 14 for US-77 toward Kingsville/ Brownsville. Continue onto US-77 and take exit toward Gen. Cavazos Blvd. Turn Right on General Cavazos Blvd. And then Take another right at S. Brahma Blvd. The school will be on your right. From Laredo: Take TX-359 towards Hebronville. In Hebronville, TX-359 turns into W. Viggie St. Stay on W. Viggie St. till you get back to TX-359, where you make a left on TX-359 until you get into Benavides. Make a right turn on 2295. Stay on 2295, passing HWY 281 where 2295 turns into 141. Stay on 141 until you enter Kingsville where 141 now turns into King St. Stay on King St. and make a right on 14 th St. until it turns into S. Brahma Blvd. The school will be on your left. From the Rio Grande Valley Take 281 from Mcallen, through Edinburg. Exit TX 285/ Falfurrias and make right hand turn at the light. You will travel on TX-285 until you teach Riviera and make a left hand turn towards Highway 77 Follow it north and exit General Cavazos Blvd. Make a left under the bridge. Make a right on S. Brahma Blvd., the school will be on your right. From Brownsville Take I-69 E/US-77 north. Exit General Cavazos Blvd. Make a left under the overpass. Make a right on S. Brahma Blvd., the school will be on your right.

1.2. Contest Flow and Parking All contest rules and regulations from the 2017 TECA Constitution and By-Laws and the 2017 TECA and WGI Rule books will be followed. All spectator parking will be will in front of the school. When the parking lot gets full, off-set parking will be in parking lot across the street. Buses will unload at the Sign In and Drop Off designated on the map. Bus parking will be by the baseball field. Entrance to parking lot will be on General Cavazos Blvd. Percussion trailer parking will be in the back parking lot of school. Percussion groups may unload and warm-up here. All props, performance shoes and equipment must be padded and taped according to the TECA and WGI rule book specifications. Please refer to the 2017 WGI Color Guard and Adjudication Manuel and Rule Book. Check In The check-in table will be located at the entrance of the cafeteria. Admission will be given to all performing members plus 10 student crew members. Any extra members will be asked to pay the regular admission price. Your school will be pre-assigned a table for which to store your equipment and will be assigned a Student Monitor that will walk you through all phases of the contest. Please understand that tables are assigned by school, not by performing group (i.e. if a school has an A group and a B group, they will still receive one set of tables). Please do not leave valuables unsupervised. Most of the first floor will be closed off with the exception of the cafeteria, restrooms, and long hallway. The second floor of the school will not be open, please make sure your students stay on the first floor. Students are NOT allowed to do any equipment work in the cafeteria. If you need extra equipment warm-up, you may do so outside. Equipment Inspection At this point all equipment will be inspected. All props, performance shoes, and equipment must be padded and taped according to the TECA and WGI rulebook specifications. Please refer to the 2017 WGI Color Guard and Adjudication Manual and Rule Book. Maps of the school and performance times will be available in the director s packet at the check-in table.

Glitter No glitter of any kind will be carried out onto the floor. This includes, but is not limited to, glitter in the performers hands, small containers, glitter in flags or glitter in any device that is used to toss, throw, or project glitter. There will be no exceptions. This goes for performances as well as retreat! Official Photo Lifetouch National School Studios will be taking group and candid photos throughout the day. Group photos will be taken in the Mariachi Room inside the Fine Arts Building prior to warm up. Each unit will be led to the Mariachi Room from the cafeteria for the photo. From the photo, the unit will proceed to the Body Warm-Up. Drumlines will be escorted to Mariachi Room for picture prior to performance. Body Warm-Up, Equipment Warm-Up, and Performance Notes There will be a brief amount of time where travel outside will be necessary to get to and from the Body Warm Up. Body Warm Up will be in the Main Band Hall. Students may stretch or do a body type of run through. No equipment will be utilized during this segment of the official warm up time. After body warm up, your guard will be led to the P.E. Gym and be placed in holding until their equipment warm up time starts. A sound system will be made available to you if you need one. After your Equipment Warm-Up, you will be led to the Performance Gym. You will be placed in holding until your official set up and performance time starts. Wait for the cue from the TECA timing person. Official Video Each unit will be allowed to have ONLY ONE person making a video archive copy of their show. Video passes will be distributed at check in. Video Taping/Recording To comply with Federal Copyright Laws, each unit may have one person taping their performance. Taping will only be allowed within a designated area and will only be allowed for your unit s performance. Taping will not be allowed of any other unit or performance. T.E.C.A. will provide a Director s DVD of their respective unit in State Championship performance. Please refrain from posting video of your performance on Youtube, Facebook, etc.

Concessions Concessions will be available all day. There will be a concession stand between the two gyms. Outside food or drink will NOT be allowed inside the school or on school grounds.
