Clemson (20) 2017 HONORS & ACCOLADES MILICA KUBURA Preseason All-ACC NOLES ENTER 2017 RANKED 15th: The Florida State volleyball team received a No. 15 ranking in the preseason polls released by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Aug. 9. It marks the seventh time in the ten years under head coach Chris Poole that the Seminoles have entered the season ranked in the AVCA Top 20. The highest in that span came in 2012 when Florida State opened the campaign 12th, after reaching the NCAA Final Four the previous season. The Noles are one of only two Atlantic Coast Conference programs in the AVCA polls, trailing the 2017 league preseason favorite North Carolina (11th). Florida State ended the 2016 season ranked 13th in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association Polls (AVCA) and has now spent the last 91 weeks ranked in the AVCA Top 25. The streak began on Sept. 19, 2011 when the Seminoles brandished a 23rd overall ranking. THREE AVCA TOP 25 TEAMS ON THE DOCKET: The Seminoles will play three matches against the same number of teams currently ranked in the AVCA Top 25. The first will be against No. 24 Arizona on September 9 as a part of the FSU-FAMU Classic, immediately followed by No. 12 Florida on the road. The Noles will see conference rival No. 11 North Carolina only once this season, as the Tar Heels will travel to Tallahassee on October 27. NOLES SECOND IN ACC PRESEASON POLLS: The Seminoles were picked to finish second to North Carolina by the league s 15 head coaches in the 2017 campaign. The Tar Heels garnered 196 points - out of 196 possible points - and 14 first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to include their own team in their predicted order of finish. North Carolina s roster features 11 returning members from last year s squad. KUBURA PRESEASON ALL-ACC: Florida State s star outside hitter Milica Kubura was named to the Preseason All-ACC team in 2017. Kubura, also a Firs Team All-ACC honoree in 2016, was a solid two-way player for Florida State as she finished ranked in the top five places on the team in seven major categories including kills (376-1st), kills/set (2.98-1st), hitting percentage (.327-2nd), assisted blocks (78-3rd), total blocks (84-3rd), blocks/set (0.67-3rd) and solo blocks (6-4th). Kubura was instrumental in guiding the Seminoles to a 17-3 mark in ACC action in 2016 after her.327 hitting percentage earned her an eighth place ranking in the ACC. 2017 FLORIDA STATE VOLLEYBALL MATCH NOTES

WINNING THROUGH THE YEARS: With a ranked win over in-state rival Florida on Dec. 3, 2016, the Seminoles have earned at least 20 wins for the 33rd time since the 1973 campaign. Former head coach Cecile Reynaud (1976-2001) owns the most 20+ win campaigns (20), while current head coach Chris Poole has contributed nine, including a pair of 30-win seasons in 2009 and 2014. Poole has guided the Noles to a school record 147 ACC wins since 2008, the most of any program in the league while amassing a 263-65 overall mark at FSU. As a result the Noles have made eight straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament. STRONG OPENERS: Florida State has a 39-6 all-time mark in season openers dating back to the 1972 campaign, including a 15-2 mark since the 2000 season. The 2017 season opener against Baylor marks just the sixth time since 1972 that the Seminoles are starting the season in a true road contest, and it is just the 18th opening match that has taken place at a neutral site in-season tournament. The Seminoles are 8-1 under head coach Chris Poole in season openers since he took over the program 2008, with five of those victories by virtue of a sweep, including last season s season opener against UCF. Poole has lead Florida State to wins over Florida A&M, Central Michigan, New Mexico State, Kentucky, Tennessee, Nebraska, Oklahoma and now UCF in that stretch. POOLE DEVELOPS FSU INTO MAJOR FORCE: Entering his tenth year at Florida State, head coach Chris Poole has established the Seminoles as fixture in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 and among the elite programs in the nation, rejuvenating the program into a consistent national contender. When Poole inherited the Florida State volleyball program in the summer of 2008, he took over a team that hadn t been to the NCAA Tournament since 2002. However, since the beginning of the 2009 season, when Poole began overseeing the scheduling process, the Seminoles have gone head-to-head with 33 non-conference opponents that were ranked in the top 25 of the AVCA polls. By facing those upper echelon programs, Poole has established Florida State s schedule as one of the most difficult in the nation for the last seven years. According to richkern.com the Seminoles strength of schedule has ranked seventh, eighth and fourth in succession in each of the last three seasons. Scouting the Competition Baylor Series record: Florida State leads 3-0 Last meeting: No. 16 FSU won 3-2 on September 8, 2016 in Tallahassee, dropping the first and fourth sets. Before facing off in 2016, the Bears and the Seminoles had not met since 1990, and 1981 before that. Baylor has seen a huge upswing in its volleyball program in the last few years, posting a 22-12 record in 2016 its best record since 2009 (24-10). The Bears also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years in 2016, earning an upset win in the first round but falling in the second. Baylor has a young roster, not unlike FSU s, as it brought on six freshmen this season. The Bears returned five starters plus a libero, but lost setter Morgan Reed, a staple in the BU lineup, who earned herself a top-10 ranking for single season assists in Baylor s history, notching 1,330 in 2016. Head Coach Ryan McGuyre served as Florida State s associate head coach under Coach Poole in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. McGuyre saw FSU s back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, and notched a 56-11 record in his two-year stint with the Seminoles. Illinois State Series record: Florida State leads 4-3 Last meeting: ILS won 3-0 on August 30, 2002 in Normal, Ill., FSU was not ranked. Illinois State enters the 2017 season with a brand new head coach, as Leah Johnson was hired following the 2016 season. In 2016, the Redbirds notched a 17-15 overall record (9-9 MVC) after coming off a pair of 22+ win seasons and going undefeated in the Missouri Valley Conference in 2014. 2017 FLORIDA STATE VOLLEYBALL MATCH NOTES

The Redbirds return five starters and ten letterwinners this season, and added four freshmen to the roster. UC Santa Barbara Series record: UCSB leads 2-0 Last meeting: No. 9 UCSB won 3-0 on September 15, 1999 in Tallahassee, FSU was not ranked. The Gauchos will prove to be new competition for the Seminoles, as the two have not met in 18 years. Under head coach Cecile Reynaud, Florida State fell to a ranked UC Santa Barbara team in both 1998 and 1999 the Gauchos advanced to the NCAA Tournament Regionals both of those seasons. UCSB returns four starters and a libero in 2017, including last season s star outside hitter, Lindsey Ruddins. Ruddins earned numerous accolades following her redshirt freshman season in 2016, including an All-American Honorable Mention and a selection to the All-Big West First Team. UCSB is in a similar position as FSU, with an almost entirely new group of middle blockers. While Florida State will look to its freshman to fill that role, UCSB will return 2016 Big West All-Freshman pick Rowan Ennis to balance out the position. CHRIS POOLE HEAD COACH TENTH SEASON Entering his tenth year at Florida State, head coach Chris Poole has established the Seminoles as fixture in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 and among the elite programs in the nation as he has rejuvenated a program that has become a national contender year in and year out. When Poole inherited the Florida State volleyball program in the summer of 2008, he took over a team that had failed to reach the 20-win plateau in five-straight seasons and hadn t been to the NCAA Tournament since 2002. It was a program looking for answers; a program looking to get back to the winning ways it had grown accustomed to in the 1980s and early 90s. However, since the beginning of the 2009 season, when Poole began overseeing the scheduling process, the Seminoles have gone head-to-head with 35 non-conference opponents that were ranked in the top 25 of the AVCA polls. By facing those upper echelon programs, Poole has established Florida State s schedule as one of the most difficult in the nation for the last seven years. According to richkern.com the Seminoles strength of schedule has ranked seventh, eighth and fourth in succession in each of the last three seasons. By the close of the 2015 season Poole further cemented his name among the best coaches in the sport as he led the Seminoles to at least 25 wins for the fifth consecutive campaign. Along with surpassing 200 wins in his Florida State career Poole climbed to seventh among active coaches in NCAA history with 761 career wins. The 2015 season, which culminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at in-state rival Florida, was highlighted by the five-member senior class which included Caroline Dadowski, Laura Dadowski, Karlie Hauer, Mercedes Vaughn and Nicole Walch. Under the direction of Poole, that quintuplet capped off one of the best four-year runs in program history, brandishing a 109-23 overall record, including a 54-2 mark in Tully Gymnasium, and along the way finished 68-10 in ACC action. Poole s continued development of Nicole Walch witnessed the Stuart, Fla., native become the first player in the rally scoring era to crack the program s top 10 list in kills (1,466) after driving home a team-high 459 kills. By leading the team in eight major categories, Walch was a unanimous selection for All-ACC First Team and was named Senior CLASS Top 10 Finalist, AVCA All-East Region Team and AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. Poole s program also drew individual honors for Sarah Burrington (AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, AVCA All-East Region Team, All-ACC First Team); Brianne Burkert (All-ACC Freshman Team); Katie Horton (All-ACC Second Team); Milica Kubura (AVCA Honorable Mention All-East Region Team, All-ACC Second Team, CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Team) and Hailey Luke (CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Team).
