Super Rankings: January 29, 2012 106: 1 Kyle Robison (Millard) 2 Kyson Levin (Pleasant Grove) 3 Kyler Machan (Jordan) 4 Kohl Tolbert (Delta) 5 Josh Pettus (Hurricane) 6 Joe Mondragon (Desert Hills) 7 Chandler Strand (Herriman( 8 Devin Porschatis (Viewmont) Notes: A lot of inconsistency at this weight class as one might expect with mostly young wrestlers but Robison has been the one exception dominating this weight class. Levin had the hot hand at The Rumble placing third and beating Machan twice, once by injury default. Pettus took second. Mondragon and Strand both placed at the Rumble. Porschatis had a nice run at the Richardson. 113 1 Dusty Hone (Cedar) 2 Matt Findlay (Alta) 3 Britain Carter (Maple Mountain) 4 York Ash II (Fremont) 5 Shand Hardy (Box Elder) 6 Josh Boman (Syracuse) 7 Cade Coles (Panguitch) 8 Tanner Luke (Viewmont) Notes: Hone is the deserved #1 here with victories over Findlay and Carter at the Rumble. Findlay came back to beat Carter at the All-Star classic. Ash got a big win over Hardy at the Richardson finals. Luke is consistent, Coles/Jorry Owens should give Panguitch a great 1-2 punch whatever weights they go at 1A state. Bohman is solid. Riley Loveless (Payson) and Jose Garcia (Delta) give 3A some depth. 120 1 Korbin Levin (Pleasant Grove) 2 Branson Ashworth (Spanish Fork) 3 Bryce Jackman (North Sevier) 4 Antonio Meikel (Kearns) 5 Brandon Winward (Skyline) 6 Garrett Sweat (Wasatch) 7 Brandon George (Maple Mountain) 8 Domonic Kunder (Bear River)

Notes: Levin has distanced himself from the pack, Ashworth took third at The Rumble with an injury default win over Jackman. Meikel has found a new home at 120, Winward is dangerous. George is unknown as he hasn t wrestled at all in January but better keep him in the rankings somewhere. Kunder had a great tournament at the Richardson. Keep an eye out for Townes Falcon (Kearns) who beat Winward earlier in the season. He may end up at 120 or 126. 126: 1 Mitch Brown (Payson) 2 Rami Haddadin (Brighton) 3 Morgan Sweat (Wasatch) 4 Kalin Gray (Syracuse) 5 McKay DeGerring (South Summit) 6 Brenden Turner (Millard) 7 Brady Dart (Mountain Crest) 8 Austin Rowley (Maple Mountain) Notes: The best weight in the state in my opinion. You have Haddadin, the Reno TOC runner-up and All-American but he s #2 as Brown has beat him twice. Sweat could challenge Brown for the 3A title. Gray is consistent, DeGerring has beat Turner who is a stud. Dart is dangerous and Rowley is plain good, what a weight class! This one was tough to rank 5-8 as Rowley placed at The Rumble while Turner did not. But Turner and DeGerring were knocked out by some Washington studs. Dart has beat Rowley twice but lost to Turner, and DeGerring beat Turner at the 2A Duals. Again, what a weight class! 132: 1 Jed Mellen (Payson) 2 Quinn Hinckley (Logan) 3 Cody Paraso (West Jordan) 4 Kolby Lloyd (Cedar) 5 Landon Knutzen (Maple Mountain) 6 Beau Blackham (Uintah) 7 Rayden Lindley (Mountain Crest) 8 Tyson Roberts (Fremont) Notes: Mellen is the man by a large measure. Hinckley is the best of the rest. Paraso and Lloyd are tough, Knutzen beat Blackham at the All-Star Classic while Lindley and Roberts showed well at the Richardson. Keep an eye out for Dante Winward (Box Elder), Braiden Wilson (Salem Hills) and Brigg Butler (Westlake), three high quality 4A wrestlers.

138: 1--Grant LaMont (Maple Mountain) 2 Zach Loveless (Payson) 3 Ken Astle (Layton) 4 Josh Jones (Pleasant Grove) 5 Mitch Kay (Maple Mountain) 6 Dixon Richins (North Summit) 7 Kaden Lindley (Mountain Crest) 8 McKay Parrish (Box Elder) Notes: The top three are studs though Astle got stunned by Parrish at the Richardson but came back to beat the Bee in the consolation finals. Kay makes Maple Mountain double tough and he had a great run at the Rumble placing fourth losing to the sometimes hot and cold Jones in the match for third place. Jones when on and focused is very good. Richins is the 2A favorite while Lindley had a great tourney at the Richardson. 145: 1 Cole Ford (Payson) 2 Jeff McCormick (South Summit) 3 Jake Tolman (Box Elder) 4 Craig Findlay (Salem Hills) 5 Jesse Carlisle (Maple Mountain) 6 Tyson Stander (Roy) 7 Hunter Riggs (Weber) 8 Dalton Harmon (Juab) Notes: Ford beat McCormick in the rematch and gets the nod here. Tolman established himself as the 4A favorite by beating Carlisle. Findlay and Carlisle split, though the second match was by injury default at The Rumble. Stander is a sophomore who surprised the field at the Richardson with a second place finish. Riggs of Weber is solid and Harmon is back in the line-up for Juab and turning some heads getting better every week. Two 5A wrestlers to watch are Rick Bartholomew (American Fork) and Will Kilpack of Alta while Matt Williams (Box Elder) is another wrestler to eyeball. 152: 1 Rasten Yeates (Box Elder) 2 Kimball Bastian (Maple Mountain) 3 Zach Prince (Hurricane) 4 Tyler Nielsen (Delta) 5 Dakatoh Holmes (Uintah) 6 Kaelen Loveless (Payson) 7 Keith Kessler (Millard) 8 Gavin Godfrey (Alta)

Notes: Yeates and Bastian are on a collision course of epic proportions. Yeates won the first meeting by a single point. Let s hope they meet again in the 4A championship rather than suffering from BRACKETUS INTERRUPTUS in meeting in the semi-finals (please formula Gods, be nice!). Prince is a stud but will have to contend with Nielsen for a 3A title. Holmes is also right there. Payson s Loveless had a nice fifth place finish at The Rumble beating Kessler along the way giving 3A another stud at this weight class. Godfrey of Alta will be the 5A favorite. 160: 1 Nick Sorenson (Box Elder) 2 Dane Nielson (Delta) 3 Mack Huntsman (Weber) 4 Kevan Webb (Desert Hills) 5 Josh Urianza (Kanab) 6 Brayden Rhoton (American Fork) 7 Lawson Essig (Viewmont) 8 Bradley Brockbank (Murray) Notes: Sorenson is the top man here and his second meeting with Huntsman was much more decisive. Based on that Nielson is #2. Webb is a tough hombre having a great showing at The Rumble. Urianza is a superb athlete. Rhoton has gone under the radar but his performance placing at The Rumble legitimizes his ranking. Essig is another solid Viking while Brockbank placed fourth in a good weight at he Richardson Memorial. Connor Crandall (South Summit) is a high quality wrestler in this weight class, a sure contender in 2A. 170 Pounds: 1 Brandon McBride (Olympus) 2 Kyle Foy (Altamont) 3 Spencer McKay (Logan) 4 Zach Coffman (Tooele) 5 Britton Gunter (Box Elder) 6 Brad Mortenson (Kearns) 7 Jordan Argyle (Maple Mountain) 8 Nic Degraffenreid (North Sevier) Notes: Foy gave McBride a tough match at the all-star classic. Coffman was second to Foy at The Rumble. McKay was off at the Richardson and was injured but has an earlier season win over the tough Coffman. Gunter is a force while Mortenson backed up a Reno placing with a third place finish at The Rumble. Argyle placed at The Rumble while Degraffenreid is the top ranked 2A wrestler. Steven Welsh (Union) has been off my radar but place at The Rumble.

182 1 JJ Larson (Bingham) 2 Taylor Niederhauser (Mountain Crest) 3 Aaron Lee (North Sanpete) 4 Talon Bryan (Juab) 5 Dakota Sorensen (North Sevier) 6 Kaleb Egbert (Orem) 7 Mason Prestwich (Timpanogos) 8 Braden Gibson (West Jordan) Notes: Larson has impressed with an all-star victory and a finals run at The Rumble. Niederhauser placed fifth at Pine View but won The Richardson. Egbert actually placed third at Pine View. Sorensen of North Sevier is tough. Prestwich is a wildcard. If healthy and focused the athletic Timberwolf can beat anybody but health is an issue. Gibson was second at the Richardson. Keep an eye out for Logan s Josue Arrenondo. 195: 1 Ryan Peterson (Delta) 2 Max Lewis (Duchesne) 3 Kyle Read (Northrdige) 4 Dustin Christensen (Roy) 5 Breckin Gunter (Box Elder) 6 Drake Comer (Mountain Crest) 7 Paul Langi (Bingham) 8 Joey Leavitt (South Sevier) Notes: Peterson earned his ranking finishing second at The Rumble. Lewis had a great tournament finishing fourth. Read returned from injury to place at The Rumble but had to default out again making his status somewhat of a mystery. Christensen and Gunter should do battle with Comer in a deep 4A weight. Leavitt is very good while Langi beat Leavitt at the All-Star Classic. 220: 1 Brian Scott (Hurricane) 2 Landon Carter (Manti) 3 Sylas Wells (Mountain Crest) 4 Brady Roth (Davis) 5 Joe Flores (Box Elder) 6 Dustin Dennison (Pleasant Grove) 7 Jeremy Aleman (Millard) 8 Cassidy Smith (Altamont)

Notes: Scott earned impressive pins over Carter and Wells at The Rumble and All-Star Classic respectively. Carter s only loss is to Scott. Roth had a great run at The Rumble. Flores recently won the Tiger-Grizz while Dennison is dangerous. Aleman and Smith are classic get-it-done and tough small school wrestlers that bring it in big tournaments. Richfield s Kyle Thomas is one to watch out for. 285 1 Carlos Turner (Layton) 2 Parker Dawe (Pleasant Grove) 3 Shad Ennis (Alta) 4 Derek Mangelson (Salem Hills) 5 Jed Rich (Uintah) 6 Riley Reeves (Box Elder) 7 Zach Rittenhouse (Provo) 8 Filipe Fifita (Mountain View) Notes: No doubt Turner deserves the top spot but he better not look past Dawe who was superb at the The Rumble beating a top wrestler from Colorado in the semi-finals and soundly beating Ennis who took out Mangelson in another semi. Rich of Uintah looks to be the 3A favorite. Reeves of Box Elder hopes to challenge Mangelson. Rittenhouse didn t place at the Rumble losing by two points to Ennis and then being knocked out by an out-of-state wresler. Fifita placed an impressive fifth at the Rumble but has lost to Rittenhouse twice. This is a very deep weight in 4A especially with unranked Dallas Howard (Murray) and Jacoby Wildman (Logan) lurking.
