Santa Teresa Women s Golf Club CAPTAIN S CORNER A New Year has begun! May it bring you smashing good shots, amazing scores, new acquaintances, enduring friendships, exciting adventures to share (perhaps a hole in one!) and challenges that are few! Our Holiday Party was made festive thanks to the artistic efforts of Arline Stopovich and Mary Wond. The tables we so beautifully decorated. A winner at each table went home with a lovely centerpiece. Pam Schwarz delighted us with Holiday music at the piano for our Happy Hour. The Christmas Gift that was presented to the Santa Teresa Golf Course staff. Rosemary Haeckel overall Captian s Trophy for lowest putts! 31.7 Awesome! Mary Wond the Most Improved!! By 5 points! Good job! To our Captain Carla, the Board and Committee members who servied this past year, a heap of gratitude and thanks for a job well done. To the new Board and Committee members welcome and thank you for stepping up to the plate!!! Kudos to Diane Tibbeltts and Dora Moutafian! To Diane for bringing back and implementing the Home & Home with Coyote. It was great fun. And this year we are going to win! To Dora and her committee for the Super Guest Day/Halloween event nothing but raves! Rosemary Haeckel, Jan Hew: Thank you for charing the Club Championship. Leta Walter, Jean Hiraishi: Thank you for the Partner Match Play Tournament. And cookies too! The envelope please! For 2014 -- awards go to: Becke Reese - our Club Champion! Congratulations Becke. A back to back Championship win! Sweet! In recongnition of their long standing membership and loyalty, 20 year pins were presented to members: Leta Walter, Tomie Sera, Barbara Schumacher, Eveline Konig and Gloria Zufall. And a 30 year pin to Dorothy Hiura! WOW! We have a great club. I hope everyone remembered to play from the white tees! The change became effective January 2015. Although this change is not what many wanted, indeed it was a heated divide, we should give it a resonable chance. Two things to keep in mind: 1) the hope is to speed up play, 2) our tournament committee has scheduled play days where we will play the Blue/White combo. Dates are in the blue handbook. Wecome to the new members. We are happy to have with with us!!! Speaking of new members Grace Wada(2014) shot a 93 for a net score of 63 to win January Captains Trophy and Diana Sakamoto(2015) won Febrary Captains Trophy on her first time playing at Santa Teresa. Well done! February 2014 Joan Takemoto Newsletter Editor

Santa Teresa Women s Golf Club 5 Dates in the Future March 19 Ec starts April 2 General Meeting April 30 Tournament for Cancer TOURNAMENT SIGN-UP SIGNING UP FOR TEE TIMES -- How are we doing? So far so good with the e-club email blasts. A few are having difficulties opening the document, but for the most part, it is working. Sometimes, the Pro Shop doesn t receive everything I send back -- particularly the start sheet. If this happens, the starter can call me on my cell and I ll make sure to bring a copy. For most of you Well Done! I hope the same on my part. PLEASE BE MINDFUL There are still some issues of which you need to be thoughtful. Recently, I tested out taking the tee time sheets on Thursday, because Monday was a holiday and during holidays I do not have access to a fax machine. I hope it worked out to everyone s satisfaction. Finally and most important to me is: Please DO NOT call me either on my cell or at home for tee times or cancellations. AND PLEASE NEVER CALL ME AT WORK!!! It s happened, it s unacceptable and all who have worked should understand how unprofessional this is. I will only respond to emails. I want signing up and canceling to be easy and not a chore. Thanks for your patience and attention. First, I ask that when you receive the no-reply Ghin connect that you read my comments. Sometimes, it s just fluff and sometimes it s important. Second, I ask that you write out your first and last names completely and clearly when you sign up. If you can t write clearly PRINT your name. When I receive the handwritten document as a fax, it s difficult enough to read when both names appear and sometimes impossible with just the last name. Please place a check if you wish a cart. This helps others signing up who may want to share with you. Third, if you should double book, I use the first tee time I see you signed up for and erase the second. Try not to write your name in more than once. Fourth, when there is a board meeting, tee times are set aside for board members only. Please refrain from signing up in those slots if you are not a board member. If a board member needs a time and can t get in, I will move a non-board member to a later tee time. For my part, I apologize for the misspelled names, for the wrong scorers for the week and I will do my best to be more accurate.

Santa Teresa Women s Golf Club 6 Some things you can put into practice: TOURNAMENT As this article is being composed, we ve had no rain-out days this year Hooray! We all realize we do need the rain, but the course conditions have been really good and the green hills are a lovely spectacle. The Tournament Chairs remind all players: Check your handicap weekly remember, they are revised on the 1 st and 15 th of each month. Since we are playing White/White and the occasional Blue/White Combo Tees, your handicap will differ. You may risk a DQ if you don t play with your current handicap. Get the distance and select the club as you approach your ball, while another player may be hitting. Once a twosome is finished putting, continue on to the next tee. Make sure your pushcart isn t in the way of the group behind you and hindering their progress. Do NOT park it in front of the green! And remember, if you have any questions or suggestions, we are happy to listen! Thank you ladies for your cooperation and have a great golfing year! Happy Golfers and Happy Golfing! When you submit your scorecards, please refer to the format in the Tournament Binder which will be available at check-in for how the scorecard should be setup. In particular, if you don t know how to play a game, please check with another member or the Tournament Binder, under the GAMES section. Pace-of Play Simply, keep up with the foursome ahead of you NOT behind you! You can speed play by playing READY GOLF at all times!
