1 Celebrating our 25th year! Nov. 2016 Micheal White, Big Sir Christmas Luncheon With The Ladies. Again, next month we have the pleasure of the company of our beautiful and wonderful ladies at luncheon. We will have the pleasure of special entertainment arranged by Little Sir Len Fadda. Now is the time to purchase your December luncheon tickets. The price is $23.00 each and can be purchased from our Treasurer Bill Momaney. Make your checks out to SIR Branch 161. Send them to Bill at 690 Central Park Place, Brentwood, CA 94513. You may also purchase them at our next SIR luncheon on November 8. Our ladies always enjoy the Christmas luncheon, so make them happy, and you will also be happy, and purchase your Christmas luncheon tickets. your help and support. Those of you with the time to spare, volunteer to help. If you have an idea for something new bring it to the Board and they will help you get it started. Annual Golf Tournament The SIR Annual Golf Tournament at Greenhorn Creek this year was a success with the turnout of 12 couples. This was the 10th consecutive event that Will Myers has organized, but he has now decided it s time for a new SiR member to take over this task. Consequently, I am seeking a SIR golfing member who would like to see that this traditional and popular event continues, since it is the only golfing tournament which includes our wife or significant other. Will has stated that he would turn over his files and assist the new person in getting started early for next year. Those interested should contact me or Will. Your Big Sir, Micheal White Annual Dues For 2017 The annual dues have not increased for 2017. This money is used to cover our Branch s and the state organization s cost of operating Sons in Retirement. Dues may be paid in cash or via check. Checks need to be made out to SIR Branch 161. Either mail checks to Bill Momaney or give them to Bill at one of our luncheons. Support For Your Board Next year you will have a new board to lead your branch. Sir Len Fadda and Little Sir Larry Mensch will have the task of leadership. They and the rest of the Board cannot do the job by themselves; They need In this issue Message from Big Sir Little Sir report; Golf news Activities, Membership Bowling news; Travel: Meetings calendar New member; 2016 golf champion Greenhorn Creek golf tournament photos Dinner with the ladies survey Policy and responsibility clauses

The course was wet, the wind blew and there was a lot of walking for all of us. Cart path only is not our "cup of tea." However, most of us made it in the end and finished a good year. The results are below and congratulations to Ken Fanucchi and the winners from The Reserve: Our Club Champ for 2016 is Ken Fanucchi (see photo on page 5), with a net score of 72. A job well done on a tough day. We had 2 flights with 4 winners in each flight. Flight A Low gross - Larry Mensch - 90 1st Low net - Ken Fanucchi - 72 2nd low net - Bill Konold - 73 3rd low net - Don Ramos - 74 Flight B Low gross - Don Rentzel - 107 1st low net - Vince Vargas - 80 2nd low net - Colin Brodie - 82 3rd low net - John Emerson - 83 No closest to the pin winners on hole #13. 115 yards!!!!! The treasury thanks you! Renewal membership is now open for our SIR NCGA golf club for 2017. The fee remains $36.00 for the year, with a check payable to Dale Welin. You can proceed now to sign up and the cutoff is Dec. 15, 2016. We must complete our membership list for NCGA by then. If you have any questions, please call Dale. If there are members in SIR Branches 108 and/or 161 that would be interested in joining our golf club, please call Dale Welin, phone 516-9463. We would welcome new members. Dale Welin

3 SIR Activities, Dick Donald We re always looking for new activities among SIR. If you have a suggestion for an activity not currently supported, let us know and we ll see if we can get a group going. You can contact me at 513-2849 or email DickDonald@Yahoo.com. Following are some ongoing SIR activities, including details on current plans. Wine Tasting, Dick Donald, 513-2849 Gary and Linda Tucker will be hosting the next wine tasting on Thursday November 17th. If you are interested in attending this very popular activity please contact Dick Donald by Friday, November 4th at the number above, or email DickDonald@Yahoo.com Beer Tasting, Eric Jensen, 240-0543 The competition is ramping up. Last month s King of the Hill, Kona Longboard, was dethroned by not just a single beer, but three of the new contenders. The top three were all highly rated by the Professional Tasting Group. Allagash Double Ale, Howling Wolf, and the new "King", Pacifico, were within 11 points of each other. Len Fadda's Pacifico bottles were wrapped in aluminum foil and ice cold - was this the winning advantage? Next month s competition will determine the Best Beer of the Year. Can Len's beer Membership, Tom Kirtley Sponsor a new member Branch members wishing to sponsor a new member should invite the prospect to a regular luncheon meeting as a guest. If the guest wishes to become a SIR member, the sponsor should obtain an application form from Membership Chairman Tom Kirtley. Have the guest complete the form, and return it to Tom. The prospective member and their sponsor should attend the next regular luncheon meeting. be the first to return and remain the KING? Christmas Lights Boat Ride, Dick Donald, 513-2849 This is a new event this year replacing the wine tasting event for the month of December. We chartered the Captain Morgan boat Rosemarie for the evening of December 14th for a two hour ride through the bays of Discovery Bay to view the Christmas lights on many of the homes. I didn t think that the maximum load for the boat would be a problem but within days of my announcement at the last SIR meeting I received checks from the limit of 35 riders and had to start a wait list. We are looking forward to a fun evening of appetizers and drinks. Pickleball, Bob Lyman, 628-7906 If you are looking for little competitive exercise come try pickleball Come join us and have loads of fun playing pickleball. Pickleball is a cross between tennis & pingpong, played with paddles on a court very similar to a tennis court. We have drop-in play at Cornell Park on the Discovery Bay public pickleball courts at 505 Discovery Bay Blvd. Play is on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m. Beginners are always welcome and an experienced player will work with new players. Just show up and we ll teach you the game on any of our days of play. If you (or maybe you and your wife) would like a private introduction to the game, please call me. The Executive Board will vote on the membership, and the new member will be inducted immediately prior to the luncheon. One new member was inducted at our October luncheon (see photo and bio on page 5). SIR Membership Requirements Membership in Sons In Retirement is open to men retired from full time occupation, regardless of age, race, color or religion. See the last page of this newsletter for more information.

4 Bowling News, Paul Elmer After 6 weeks and 24 games of bowling Jerry B Our Man (Bill Bayer, Julie Bayer, Curtis Manning, Jerry W Marshall) is in first place by only one game over two other teams Over The Top(RonWilson, Marie Wilson, Art Lopez, John Fry) and Bowling Buddies (Mary Branscum, Lorraine Burt, Fred Critchfield, Art Solomon). 3 other teams are within 2 games of these teams so, as we have always seen, anything can and will happen, as we still have a long season to go. Season high scores to date are; for the women; Scratch Series has Rosie Elmer with 638, Scratch Game is Marie Wilson with 238, Handicap Series is Terry Damico with 798 (WOW!), and Handicap Game goes to Barbara Mensch with 287. For the men; Scratch Series-Bob Damico 731, Scratch Game Dale Davidson with 267; Handicap Series has John Lopp with 855 (another WOW) and Handicap Game of 339 goes to Larry Mensch (did this with a scratch game of 259!). Way to go people!! Speaking of scores and positions Branches 108 and 161 co-sponsored the annual Bob Matteucci SIRS Tournament on Oct. 18th and 20th with a total of 78 bowlers. This is down about 20% from previous years and seems to be a common happening with other branches. Even though we had fewer participants this year there were some very good scores. For instance, John Dorsett from branch 19 in Clayton, bowled an incredible 805 series for "A" Div Doubles. That is 268 per game folks!! For branches 108 and 161 people that placed in their respective events are: Eric Jensen - 1st in "B" division singles and 1st in "B" division All Events. Ron and Marie Wilson placed 3rd in "A" Division doubles and Marie placed 5th in "B" Division Singles and 6th in "B" Division All Events. Paul Elmer was 5th in "A" Division All Events, Bill Bayer placed 5th in "B" Division All Events and 10th in "B" Division Singles and Curtis Manning placed 8th in "A" Division Singles. Well done!!. There are only two tournaments left for the year, both in November. In Modesto on the 3rd and 6th, and Clayton on the 15th and 16th. Paul SIR Travel Opportunities, Mitch Wisinski Various bargain-priced trips are available to SIR members through local travel agencies and other SIR branches.
