Team NAME PROFILE NAME Lost to Sri Lanka by 57 runs in the semi-final of ICC WT20 2009. Played its first Twenty20 International against New Zealand at Auckland in February 2006. The match was tied and New Zealand won a bowl-out. Failed to reach the second round of ICC WT20 2007 after losing to Bangladesh. Chris Gayle was the first batsman to score a century in a Twenty20 International when he made 117 against South Africa at Johannesburg during the ICC WT20 2007. Became England s bowling coach in September 2007, a role that he held until being appointed as West Indies coach. Played two Tests and 15 ODIs for West Indies between 1995 and 1999 as a fast bowler and useful lower-order hitter. Performed the rare feat of taking 10 wickets in an innings in first-class cricket when he took 10-47 for Durham v Hampshire at Chester-le-Street in 2007. Scored 5 604 runs and took 659 wickets in his first-class career, playing domestically in England and South Africa as well as for his native Barbados. Chris Gayle (c) DOB: 21/09/79 Born: Kingston, Jamaica Batting/Bowling Style: LHB/OB Scored 193 runs at an average of 48.25 and a strike rate of 134.02 at ICC WT20 2009. Scored the first century in a T20 International match when he struck 117 off 57 balls including 10 sixes against South Africa at Johannesburg in the opening match of ICC WT20 2007. Has a Test triple century to his credit, scoring 317 against South Africa at St John s in 2005. Appeared for Western Australia in the Twenty20 Big Bash in 2009/10. Sulieman Benn DOB: 22/07/81 Born: Haynesville, Barbados Batting/Bowling Style: LHB/SLA Had figures of 4-2-6-4 in a T20 International against Zimbabwe at Port-of-Spain in February this year. Has taken 25 wickets at an average of 16.08 while conceding just 5.84 runs per over in his Twenty20 career prior to the start of this event. Took his first five-wicket haul in Tests with 5-155 against Australia at Adelaide in December last year. Has taken over 500 wickets in the in the Barbados First Division, mostly for Spartan, who he has represented since 1999. Dwayne Bravo DOB: 07/10/83 Born: Santa Cruz, Trinidad Batting/Bowling Style: RHB/RFM Was West Indies leading wicket-taker at ICC WT20 2009, with 10 wickets at an average of 18.40 and scored his 154 runs in the tournament at a strike-rate of 145.28. Was the leading wicket-taker at the Champions League in India last year, helping Trinidad and Tobago to the final with 12 wickets at an average of 15.83. Shivnarine Chanderpaul DOB: 18/08/74 Born: Demerara, Guyana Batting/Bowling Style: LHB/LB Is one of three West Indians to have scored 8 000 ODIs and averages over 41 in this form of the game. Hit one of the fastest Test centuries ever off just 69 balls against Australia at Georgetown in 2003. Was named International Cricketer of the Year at the LG ICC Awards in 2008. Has played for Durham since 2007, helping them win the County Championship for the past two years. Narsingh Deonarine DOB: 16/08/83 Born: New Amsterdam, Guyana Batting/Bowling Style: LHB/OB Scored 36 not out off 29 balls in his second T20 International against Australia at Sydney in February this year. Scored 102 not out off 79 balls for Guyana v Barbados at Berbice in a limited overs match in October last year. Hit a six off the final ball of the Twenty20 series against Trinidad and Tobago in 2006 to help Guyana to win the million dollar prize money. Represented West Indies at ICC U19 CWC in 2000 and 2002, scoring 157 runs at 31.40 and taking 10 wickets at 13.70 and economy rate of 3.09 in 2002. Andre Fletcher DOB: 28/11/87 Born: St Davids, Grenada Batting/Bowling Style: RHB//WK Scored 53 off 32 balls against Australia at The Oval, in his first match of ICC WT20 2009 but disappointingly finished the tournament with three consecutive ducks. Scored 90 not out off 66 balls including seven sixes for Stanford Super Stars v Middlesex at St John s in a Twenty20 match in 2008. Is one of the youngest players to appear in first-class cricket in West Indies, being aged 16 years, 63 days on debut for Windward Islands v Trinidad and Tobago in 2004. Is a cousin of former West Indies wicket-keeper Junior Murray. DOB: 07/09/76 Born: Kingston, Jamaica Batting/Bowling Style: LHB/RM Wavell Hinds Returned to the West Indies team in February this year on the tour of Australia, having not played since 2006. Played for Derbyshire in the Twenty20 Cup in 2008 and 2009, scoring 299 runs at an average of 42.71 and strike-rate of 112.83 in 2009. Has played for Jamaica since 1996. Nikita Miller DOB: 16/05/82 Born: St Elizabeth, Jamaica Batting/Bowling Style: RHB/SLA In the recent ODI series against Zimbabwe he took seven wickets at an average of 17.57 and tidy economy rate of 3.98, including a career best of 4-43 at Providence. Somewhat surprisingly, he was West Indies leading run-scorer at ICC CT 2009, with 72 including 51 against Pakistan and conceded just 3.34 runs per over in the tournament. Had match figures of 10-121 to help Jamaica win the final of the Inter-island Cup in 2008 against Trinidad and Tobago. In first-class cricket he has conceded below two runs per over while taking his wickets at an average of 18. Kieron Pollard DOB: 12/05/87 Born: Cacariqua, Trinidad Batting/Bowling Style: RHB/RM Took Trinidad and Tobago to an unlikely win over New South Wales during the Champions League in October last year, smashing 54 not out off 18 balls. Scored 83 not out off 38 balls in a Twenty20 match for Trinidad and Tobago v Nevis at St John s in 2006. Was first picked for the West Indies for ICC CWC 2007 but did not play. Scored 126 including seven sixes on first-class debut for Trinidad and Tobago v Barbados at Crab Hill in 2007, reaching his century off just 71 balls. DOB: 13/10/85 Born: Couva, Trinidad Batting/Bowling Style: RHB/WK Denesh Ramdin Has played the most T20 Internationals for West Indies with 19. Made his best T20 International score of 44 off 26 balls against Australia at Hobart in February this year. Scored 38 not out off 14 balls for Trinidad and Tobago v Guyana at St John s in the final of the domestic Twenty20 tournament in 2006. Represented West Indies at ICC U19 CWC in 2004 in Bangladesh, and was Man of the Match in the semi-final against England with 72, a catch, a stumping and two run outs. DOB: 15/10/84 Born: Preysal, Trinidad Batting/Bowling Style: LHB/RFM Ravi Rampaul Took 3-20 in four overs in the final of the Champions League last year for Trinidad and Tobago against New South Wales. Played for Ireland as an overseas player in the ECB 50-over Trophy in 2008 and took 10 wickets at an average of 28.70. Represented West Indies at ICC U19 CWC 2002 and 2004, taking nine wickets at an average of 21.22 in 2004. Kemar Roach DOB: 30/06/88 Born: St Lucy, Barbados Batting/Bowling Style: RHB/RF Made his debut for West Indies in a T20 International against Australia at Bridgetown in June this year and took 2-29 in three overs. Spectacularly bowled Shane Watson with the first ball of the match when West Indies met Australia at Johannesburg during ICC CT 2009. Took 13 wickets at an average of 17.61 in his first Test series against Bangladesh last year, including 6-48 at St George s. Took eight wickets at an average of 21.25 for West Indies at ICC U19 CWC 2006 in Sri Lanka. DOB: 20/12/83 Born: Micond, St Lucia Batting/Bowling Style: RHB/RMF Darren Sammy Is one of only three bowlers in T20 Internationals matches to take five wickets in a match with 5-26 against Zimbabwe at Port-of-Spain this year. His economy rate of 5.37 runs per over was the best for the West Indies at the ICC WT20 2009 and the third best for the tournament. Took 7-66 on his Test debut against England at Manchester in 2007, the second best figures on debut for West Indies. Is the first international cricketer to emerge from St Lucia. Ramnaresh Sarwan DOB: 23/06/80 Born: Essequibo, Guyana Batting/Bowling Style: RHB/LB Scored his first Twenty20 International fifty with 53 off 36 balls against New Zealand at Hamilton in December 2008. Was West Indies leading run-scorer at ICC CWC 2007 with 375 at an average 46.87. Scored 175 runs at an average of 58.33 and took 16 wickets with his leg-spinners at an average of 10.81 at ICC U19 CWC 1998. His favourite film is Black Hawk Down. Jerome Taylor DOB: 22/06/84 Born: St Elizabeth, Jamaica Batting/Bowling Style: RHB/RF Is West Indies leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals with 17 wickets at an average of 20.23, including figures of 3-1-6-3 against South Africa at Port Elizabeth in 2007. Became the first West Indian to take a hat-trick in an ODI, which he did against Australia in Mumbai during ICC CT 2006. Took 5-11 to help bowl England out for 51 in a Test at Kingston in 2009.
