You are the only player on the team who is designated to touch the ball in every rally. Your teammates will look to you on every play to determine their next step. The decisions you make on the court affect the entire team. This is a great challenge to you and your abilities. You are the creator of opportunities for each attacker, as well as a cornerstone for defense as a right side blocker. The nature of your position requires you to be a leader, and you must do so with effective and confident communication. Good decision making and consistency are the keys to being a successful setter. The coaching staff will ask a lot from you and we expect you to respond without hesitancy. We feel confident that you can and will get the job done.

LIBERO Be able to primary pass at a 2.3 or better (scale 0-3) Support the other passers by verbally giving information (i.e. "in, out, short, deep," etc) Make adjustments in serve receive patterns when necessary Know, and be able to execute defensive responsibility Be in proper body posture in order to make a secondary move out of the dropped position Go for EVERY ball, regardless of if you think it is possible to get or not Be the primary communicator of hitter coverage at all times Let your teammates know their attacking options when they are hitting (i.e. "line", "angle", etc.) Let your teammates know whether they are good or not to jump and attack from back row ---.Beable to serve all areas on the court at any given time Serve as to take the quick attack out of the opposition's offense (0, 1, or 2 option) Pass all free ball opportunities 3 option Use loud and clear 2 call during serve receive and free balls Be generally positive and supportive of your teammates on the court Maximum effort must be given at all times Bring a spark of energy to the court when you step on the court --- Approach the coaching staff before your time to enter the game to let them know you are ready The Libero in our program must make our team better when they step on the court. You must be a better back row player than the individual you subbed for. As a server, you must be able to hit the given zone and apply pressure to the opposing, offense. Defensively, the team needs you to give an all out effort for every ball. Offensively, we need you to be a reliable primary passer and also contribute as a back row attacker, not only keeping the ball in play, but also swinging aggressively and effectively. Confidence, leadership, communication and aggressive effort are the keys to being a successful Libero. The coaching staff will ask a lot from you and we expect you to respond without hesitancy. We feel confident that you can and will get the job done..

You become the primary blocker during 75% of our opponents' attack. You need.to be able to set the block for our middle to close and our defense to be successful around you. Offensively, you need to be able to create opportunities in order to_make yourself an effective and available attacker. In order to do this, you must be, able to attack from various zones on the net as well as different tempos of sets. Athleticism and good decision making are the keys to being a successful right side hitter. The coaching staff will ask a lot from you and we expect you to respond without hesitancy. We feel confident that you can and will get the job done.

We ask that you be able to primary pass, and take the load of the offensive production. In order to do this, you need to be able to keep a steady emotional and physical presence on the court. Discipline and consistency is the key to being a successful outside hitter. The coaching staff will ask a lot from you and we expect you to respond without hesitancy. As the anchors of our offense, there will be much expected of you, and we feel confident that you can and will respond.

MIDDLE BLOCKER Be able to step in the serve receive line when called upon Support the other passers by verbally giving information (i.e. "in, out, short, deep," etc) _~_Know, and be able to execute defensive responsibility Be in proper body posture in order to make a secondary move out of the dropped position Own the net - by calling and pointing out the opponents' attackers before every play Keep hands high at all times and be able to win any 50-50 balls at the net Set the block early or close the block & take away designated area of the court Be able to close the block and press hands into designated zones on the net Communicate clearly & effectively concerning attackers coming in and out of your zone Go for EVERY ball, regardless of if you think it is possible to get or not Cover your teammates when they are attacking ~ Get into a proper attack-load position during every offensive opportunity Understand the timing and tempo ofthe various sets.effectively hit the various quick tempo sets --- Terminate the ball in one-on-one situations Tight or low sets - use an effective shot selection Transition: Be able to make clear & effective audible calls Work to get into a loadposition to attack, and apply offensive tactics listed above Must be able to be an option on every ball to the setter, regardless of the pass On off pla~s, know when and what to call (i.e. running a "GO") Be able to serve all areas on the court at any given time Serve as to take the quick attack out ofthe opposition's offense (0, 1, or 2 option) Pass all free ball opportunities 3 option Use loud and clear 2 call during serve receive and free balls _----'-_Give the setter effective feedback during play Be generally positive and supportive of your teammates on the court.maximum effort must be given at all times The middle blockers in our program dictate the tempo and success of both our offense and defense. You need to make it your personal responsibility to own the net and literally stop the opponents' middle in their tracks. This is an exciting an awesome responsibility. In order to do this, you need to be an option on every ball to create openings and opportunities for both the right side and outside attackers. The coaching staff will ask a lot from you and we expect you to respond without hesitancy. Hard work, discipline and an attitude are the keys to being a successful middle. This is the most athletic and talented class of middles for SMS. We know we will be a great team, because of the determination of our middles.
