Contents 1 Match background 6 SSC match-by-match lineups 2 Latest match, injury/disciplinary news 7 Team facts 3 Squad and management information 8 Head-to-head 4 Results & fixtures information 5 League tables This press kit includes information relating to this Setanta Sports Cup match. Match background Dundalk lead this Setanta Sports Cup quarter-final tie with Glentoran 1-0 following Mark Quigley s magnificent late volley at The Oval a fortnight ago. Glentoran should have been ahead in the first half of that game, Lilywhites goalkeeper Peter Cherrie denying Matthew Burrows with a superb save, but after the break Ian Foster s side improved and deservedly broke the deadlock on 82 minutes thanks to Quigley s cracking 18-yard strike. This game sees Glentoran visit Oriel Park for a competitive fixture for the very first time. The clubs have met competitively on eight previous occasions six times in the wartime Inter City Cup, between 1942 and 1948, once in the Tyler Cup, in the late 1970s, and the recent Setanta Sports Cup meeting in Belfast (full head-to-head below). Dundalk s three home games were played on neutral ground in Dublin. The clubs have been very evenly matched, with three wins apiece and two draws, Dundalk netting 12 times, one shy of Glentoran s total of 13. While this is Dundalk s debut in the Setanta Sports Cup, Glentoran have been everpresents since the inaugural tournament six years ago. In four of their five previous appearances, Glentoran have exited at the group stage. 2008 was the exception as they made it all the way to the final, against Cork City at Turner s Cross, taking an early lead in the decider through Kyle Neill before the Leesiders hit back through second-half goals from Dan Murray and Liam Kearney to win 2-1. This will be Glentoran s 30th game in the competition. Their overall record to date reads: P29 W6 D5 L18 F29 A62. Dundalk s Setanta Sports Cup record is: P3 W2 D1 L0 F7 A4. Foster has used all bar two of his 19-man squad in this competition, goalkeeper Paul Murphy and young striker Mark Griffin yet to taste action in the cross-border tournament. Having started their season back in July, this will be Glentoran s 45th competitive match of the campaign, compared to Dundalk s 8th. This match is Foster s 54th competitive outing in charge of Dundalk. Foster's managerial record at Dundalk, in all competitions, is: P53 W21 D10 L22 F70 A78.

Win rate: 39.6%. It is his 95th competitive match as a manager, having previously been at Galway United. Total record: P94 W35 D17 L42 F112 A140. Win rate: 37.2%. Dundalk's top scorers this term (competitive matches): 4 Mark Quigley, 3 Daniel Kearns, 2 Jason Byrne, 1 Shane Guthrie & Ross Gaynor. Top scorers (including friendlies): 6 Byrne, 5 Quigley, 4 Kearns & Johnny Breen, 2 Dean Bennett & Gaynor, 1 Keith Ward, Stephen Maher & Guthrie. In the Setanta Sports Cup, Kearns, thanks to his hat-trick against Linfield at Windsor Park on Saint Valentine s night, and Quigley, have both hit three goals for Dundalk. Their other goal came from Gaynor, at home to Linfield. Between them, Daryl Fordyce and Matthew Burrows have hit 28 goals (14 each) in the league for Glentoran this season. In all competitions, the pair have scored 36 times, Burrows leading the way with 19. The defeat by Dundalk at The Oval is Glentoran s only loss in their last seven games in all competitions. They have lost just one of their last nine league games, away to red-hot Crusaders on 21 February. Last Monday, Glentoran qualified for the semi-finals of the Irish Cup when they defeated Coleraine 3-2 on penalties, following a thrilling 3-3 draw at The Showgrounds. Dundalk are currently undefeated at home in three outings. They have not gone four games unbeaten at Oriel Park since last May. Both these clubs participated in this season s UEFA Europa League, Glentoran exiting at the first hurdle to Icelandic side KR Reykjavík 5-2 on aggregate. Dundalk defeated CS Grevenmacher (Luxembourg) 5-4 over two legs before bowing out to Levski Sofia (Bulgaria) on an 8-0 scoreline.

Latest match, injury/disciplinary news Dundalk Last Match: Friday 18 March: Dundalk 0-0 Bohemians Daniel Kearns was denied a late penalty as Dundalk had to settle for a share of the spoils in an entertaining 0-0 draw against Bohemians at Oriel Park last Friday night. The exciting young Belfast-born winger, who put in another Man of the Match performance, inspired the Lilywhites late on and appeared to be fouled by Ollie Cahill after a surging run into the box on 85 minutes. However, referee Damien Hancock ignored the appeals. The home side had the returning Peter Cherrie to thank for keeping them in the game as he brilliantly denied Mark Rossiter in the first half before somehow saving from Steven Trainor after the break. Injury/Disciplinary news Manager Ian Foster is without the suspended duo of Dean Bennett and Michael Hector. Bennett is serving a ban incurred in this season s Setanta Sports Cup having picked up yellow cards against both Linfield and Glentoran. The 33-year-old central midfielder, who missed the visit of Bohemians due to a hamstring injury, will also be absent for next Friday s league trip to Saint Patrick s Athletic through a suspension carried over from last season. Meanwhile, centre-half Hector is serving the final game of his additional three-match ban which was dished out by the English FA at recent a disciplinary hearing in Wembley. On a positive note, Ross Gaynor and Greg Bolger both return from bans. On the injury front, Eoghan Osborne (hamstring) is doubtful. Miscellaneous This will be Dundalk s 14th game in just 52 days since their opening friendly against FAI/FÁS Irishtown on 28 January. The Lilywhites record so far is: P13 W8 D2 L3 F26 A17. Two of the three defeats were by Shamrock Rovers, in the Leinster Senior Cup and the league. Glentoran Last Match: Saturday 19 March: Ballymena United 2-3 Glentoran (Surgenor 45, McCafferty 80; Waterworth 13, 26, Steele 87) Peter Steele scored a late winner against Ballymena United on Saturday afternoon to give Glentoran their third league win in a row which keeps their slim title homes alive. The Glens had raced into a 2-0 lead before the half-hour mark thanks to a double from Andrew Waterworth. However, Mark Surgenor pulled one back before the break, with former Derry City midfielder Neil McCafferty leveling the game with just ten minutes remaining. Steele, though, rescued the visitors on 87 minutes, which keeps them within five points of leaders Linfield, who have a game in hand. Injury/Disciplinary news Manager Scott Young has no suspensions to contend with, though Neal Gawley and Richard Gibson are in danger of missing the semi-final should Glentoran progress as they were booked in the opening leg. Miscellaneous Glentoran have picked up more points away from The Oval in the league, accumulating 31 on the road compared to 28 at home.

Team facts Dundalk History Dundalk FC has won nine Premier Division titles since joining the League of Ireland in 1926. They won their first league in the 1932/33 season but had to wait until 1963 for another one, before winning seven more in a 28-year spell from 1967 to 1995, their last top-flight triumph. They have, however, won two First Division titles in the meantime, the first of those coming in 2001 and the latest in November 2008. The Lilywhites have also won nine FAI Cups, the latest coming in their last cup final appearance in 2002. Also on the club s roll of honour are four League Cups although they have not won that competition since 1990. Dundalk competed in Europe last July for the first time since 2002. The club won their first league title 11 years later and in total have been crowned champions of Northern Ireland on 23 occasions, making them the second most successful club behind Linfield (49). Glentoran s colours red, green and black were interestingly chosen at a gathering in the Hatfield Bar on the Ormeau Road in the summer of 1882. They were taken from the colours of the blazers of the Phoenix Cricket Club, from Dublin, who were in Belfast as part of the Na Shulers (The Rovers) touring side. In 1914, Glentoran won the Vienna Cup, becoming the first team from the UK to win a European trophy, although as the competition took place 40 years before the formation of UEFA, it is not recognised as such. Between themselves and Linfield and Belfast Celtic who dissolved in 1949 they have dominated Northern Irish football, winning 23 league titles (most recent 2009), 20 Irish Cups (most recent 2004) and seven League Cups (most recent 2010). In Europe, they have played 88 times. Their finest hour came in the UEFA European Cup against Benfica in 1967. The first leg, at The Oval, ended 1-1, Glentoran s opener cancelled out by Eusébio. The second leg, at Estádio da Luz, finished 0-0, Glentoran becoming the first club to lose out on the away goals rule. Roy Coyle is the club s most successful manager having won 16 trophies during his reign between 1997 and 2006.
