Luke Davies, 28, was given devastating news in summer 2016 when he was told his girlfriend Amy needed open heart surgery after developing an aneurysm. Amy was born with the congenital heart condition aortic stenosis, where the aortic valve narrows and restricts blood flow. This was her second open heart surgery and although this operation was successful, Amy faces the prospect of more operations and hospital visits. He is now taking on one of the BHF s toughest walks to help fund 100million each year to find new ways to treat, diagnose and prevent heart and circulatory disease. Amy is one of seven million people living with its burden in the UK. Luke explains: I m so proud of how well Amy has coped with her condition, from the dreaded surgeries to her recovery process. She s already fought so hard, which is why I would like to try and push myself to do this challenge and raise some money for the BHF. The research the charity funds is the only answer to end the devastation caused by heart disease. I am particularly passionate about the research they do for congenital heart disease. I ve seen what my girlfriend has had to go through and we can only hope that the charity continues to give millions of people a better future.
