Remember to make every day a feast of giving thanks; by doing so, we could serve up heaping helpings of happiness, health and joy. Patrick Zito Zito s Hideaway Twenty Sixteen (2016) was an incredible year for the Chicago Cub s baseball team. What makes it so incredible is the fact that the last time they have won a World Series was way back in 1908. That is one hundred and eight years ago (108). Wow. Needless to say the city of Chicago had one heck of a celebration when they had their parade. Baseball fans young and old enjoyed every moment of it. I have to amid, I was thrilled also. The year 1955 came to my mind because that is when the Brooklyn Dodgers finally beat the New York Yankees in the World Series that year. Unfortunately that was the last year that the Brooklyn Dodgers played in Brooklyn. The following year they went to Los Angeles and became the Los Angeles Dodgers. I was devastated. I was left without a team to root for because I did not want to become a Yankee Fan because the NY Yankees always gave the Dodgers a hard time. I could remember my knees shaking every time Mickey Mantle came up to the plate especially when they played in Ebetts Field which was the home ballpark for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Ebetts Field was much smaller then Yankee Stadium, and the distance to the center field wall from home plate was 395ft. The distance from home plate to the center field wall at Yankee Stadium was 461ft. Can you imagine what a powerful home run hitter like Mickey Mantle could do in Ebetts field. It seemed that every time he got up he would knock the ball out of the park. I did not like him very much at that time. However, what stands out in my mind is the day that my friend Tommy who is a big Yankee fan approached me and said, would you mind coming with me to Yankee Stadium to see Mickey Mantle play? This is his last year. I said, I am not a Mickey Mantle fan but I will go if you really want me to. He smiled and off we went. When we got there Tommy suggested that we go down by the locker room area. To my surprise the door to the locker room was a little ajar and even though their were barricades keeping us back we could see Mickey Mantle setting on a table and they were taping him up around his waist. Every time they would pull on the tape to tighten it he would flinch in pain. I said to Tommy, What are they doing to him? he said, they do this all the time he has a back and leg problem. Later when we were watching the game and when he was up at the plate he would show signs of pain every time he would swing and miss. I could not believe he was playing in that condition. As t watched him with my binoculars I could see him flinch with pain every time he would swing and miss a pitch, and to my amazement he would swing even harder at the next pitch. Finally it was the ninth inning and the score was 2 to 1, the Yankees were losing. Mickey Mantle came up to the plate with two outs and a man on first base. I watched him swing and flinch in pain as he missed the pitch for strike one. The second pitch came in as Mantle took a big rip at the ball. Striiiike Twooo the umpire shouted out. The ballpark went silent and you can feel the tension in the air. In came the third pitch and Mickey Mantle hit that ball so hard that you could here the crack of the bat from the bleaches as I watched the ball fly over the center field wall I jumped up on my seat and yelled Yeahhhhhh. Tommy looked at me and was surprised. I responded by saying. I couldn t help it I admire GREATNESS and he is AWESOME. Just recently I learned that before Mickey Mantle passed away he openly excepted, Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and nothing is more awesome then that. He is a true Super Star. Speaking of Super Stars, we have many of them right here at Pacifica, and just like Mickey Mantle they struggle from time to time but, they still have the courage to smile and thank the staff for the wonderful care we receive here at PACIFICA.

Currently, more than 3 million people in the United States have glaucoma. The National Eye Institute projects this number will reach 4.2 million by 2030, a 58 percent increase. Glaucoma is called "the sneak thief of sight" since there are no symptoms and once vision is lost, it's permanent. As much as 40% of vision can be lost without a person noticing. Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness. Moreover, among African American and Latino populations, glaucoma is more prevalent. Glaucoma is 6 to 8 times more common in African Americans than Caucasians. Combined with our aging population, we can see an epidemic of blindness looming if we don t raise awareness about the importance of regular eye examinations to preserve vision. The World Health Organization estimates that 4.5 million people worldwide are blind due to glaucoma.
