Editorial CLAUDINE SCHMIDT-LAINÉ Grenoble s academy will organize on February 5 to 10 2018 the firsts ISF SCHOOLS WINTER GAMES for high school and secondary school students. Our academy has been officially selected among, including, Sweden and Ireland Republic s applications. This sporting and cultural event, with international major, takes place at the heart of the organization of 50th anniversary of Grenoble s Olympic Games. It will be sponsored by international reputation sportsmen and will gather more than 1 000 young sportsmen coming from about twenty nations from Chile to China, via Estonia, Germany, Iran s Republic or Austria. These young sportsmen will face during sport trials spread into the historical places of the Olympic Games on the uploads surrounding the Alps capital city, encouraged by academy s pupils mobilized by the occasion. An event whose slogan BY EVERY PUPIL TO EVERY PUPIL is revealing of the importance of school sport in the citizen s process but also in the pupil s health process. Highlights such as opening and closing ceremonies, as well as nations day will favor meetings and living together of all these young people and show the developed skills within the establishments. The organization of such a tournament will also allow competitors and their escorts, and to a great extend countries that send them to know the academy s territory and more precisely Isère s territory. It will contribute to regional territory s reputation and its economic development. This is why public partners, private partners, and companies of our region sharing the same values will be requested to be a part of this event. For all these reasons, I encourage you to join us in this structuring, innovative and ambitious project that I manage with enthusiasm and determination in collaboration with all of you. 1st ISF Schools Winter Games 1st chapter of a beautiful story FROM L ISF WSC SKI TO ISF SCHOOLS WINTER GAMES 5 to 10 February 2018, Grenoble s Academy greets the 1st ISF SCHOOLS WINTER GAMES. Between 1 000 and 1500 young talented pupils from the whole world will meet to celebrate school sport in the Alps heart. The ISF SCHOOLS WINTER GAMES 2018 are an international winter sports competition organized by the International School Sports Federation (ISF). The ISF SCHOOLS WINTER GAMES break with the World Schools Championship of Ski (ISF WSC SKI), former format of the tournament, organized every two years since 1973. A new version which gives the event a new extent, by integrating new winter sports liked by young people. Addressed to sportsmen younger than 18 years old, the ISF SCHOOLS WINTER GAMES celebrates their first occasion in Grenoble in 2018. 5

A celebration Grenoble s 1968 Olympic Games 50th anniversary 2018 marks an important event for Grenoble s town. Indeed, the opening ceremony of ISF SCHOOLS WINTER GAMES matches, to the day, with the 50th anniversary of Winter Olympic Games of 1968 organized in Grenoble. From February 6 to 18 1968, Grenoble has been the world center. The town was greeting, in various winter sports resort around, athletes coming from the whole world. Although it was short-lived, this event transformed the town for long years. It generated a notoriety and an attractivity that the town didn t get until then. The ISF SCHOOLS WINTER GAMES 2018 fully insert themselves into the festivities planned by Grenoble s town for the occasion. Young pupils will have the occasion to discover one of the Olympic towns building history of winter sports, a story well fixed into aera s patrimony and into its inhabitants collective memory. That is the symbol of this event which will allow tomorrow s champions to ski into their Olympic predecessors trakcs! 6

Global youth celebrates olympism in Grenoble Not less than 1 500 teenagers from the whole world will fly in Grenoble to celebrate a unique event: the first ISF SCHOOLS WINTER GAMES. Following the example of summary Gymnasiade, this event gets into position of school sport Olympic Game and promotes olympism values. Favor ethical practices, prevent discriminations, doping and violence are at the center of organizers preoccupations. Living together educational activities and festive ceremony are planned in order to offer pupils considerable experiences and an unprecedented cultural and artistic sharing. 7

An event by every pupil to every pupil During this event, pupils can access many responsibilities developed by their establishment s Sporting Association, the UNSS and civil society. Everything that would have been developed during the ISF SCHOOLS WINTER GAMES will participate to the construction of future citizens. In terms of logistics, 350 teens led by around a hundred teachers from about thirty high schools and secondary schools of Grenoble s academy will make sure the event runs smoothly. Their missions: administer, communicate, welcome delegations, escort, feed, participate to different commissions created for the event s organization. Organizers could count on skills and various qualities of Officials Young (Jeunes Officiels) certified by the UNSS (Refereeing, entertainment & ceremonies, communication & journalism, first aid, translation, coaching etc ). GOOD TO KNOW By the end of 2015, the UNSS took a census of certified Officials Young and there were 195 000 of them. This number is declined into certifications of young jury/young referees, young organizers, young reporters, young first-aiders, young managers and young coaches. In Grenoble s academy, we count 6 549 certified Official Youngs and 59 434 members. 8

Organizers ISF (International School Sport Federation) The ISF is the International School Sport Federation. Its mission is to coordinate and organize international sporting events for pupils from 13 to 19 years old. Since 1972, ISF encourages Education through sport and count 86 member nations from the 5 continents. For every 25 recognized sporting disciplines, the ISF organized an international tournament every 2 years (the ISF World School Championship). The leading event of ISF still is the summer Gymnasiade, organized since 1974. The ISF is a recognized federation by the International Olympic Committee. SR UNSS - Grenoble s Academy Sporting Union for School (UNSS) aims to organize and develop sporting activities practice, component of physical and sporting education by learning voluntary live for pupils which joined sporting association in secondary school Regional Service UNSS Grenoble s Academy : 1500 teachers / 59434 members/ 6549 Official Youngs / 402 Sporting associations 21 France s champion medals/ 19 silver medals/ 16 bronze medals / 34 sporting disciplines. 3rd Academy in France 1st Academy for Official Youngs formation 12

The host-town : Grenoble Grenoble is Isère s mountain stations capital city; it imposes itself naturally to welcome global tournaments. Located at the heart of French Alps, the town is surrounded by no fewer than 30 winter sports resorts, spread into 3 principal uplands: Vercors, Chartreuse and Belledonne. The sporting politic of Grenoble is turned towards youth. With 350 sporting clubs, one out of three inhabitants of Grenoble practices a sporting activity. Sporting equipment are a strong point that fills with life sporting spirit in the town. Grenoble s sports hall was built in 1967 on the occasion of Olympic Games of 1968. Installed in Paul-Mistral park, in the middle of the town, it welcomes since several years sporting and cultural event. The sports hall will be the place of welcome of opening and closing ceremonies of ISF SHOOLS WINTER GAMES 2018. 13

CHAMROUSSE Chamrousse is an alpine ski resort located in south extremity of Belledonne s upland. In addition to its large skiing area (92 km of alpine ski, 41 km of cross-country ski, 19 ski lifts ), Chamrousse has an important cultural and natural heritage. It was the field of alpine ski trials during Olympic Games of 1968. AUTRANS MÉAUDRE Located at the heart of Vercors plateau, it is an exceptional resort, full of history, heritage and natural beauties. Autrans is also a natural place of sport where winter Olympic Games of 1968 took place, broadcast for the first time in television. 14

L ALPE D HUEZ Located in a fully south plateau at 1 860m of altitude, the Alpe d Huez is one of the richer resort in terms of sporting and cultural activities. With 300 days of sun a year, the Alpe d Huez well deserved its nickname of Island on the Sun. The Alpe d Huez had the honor of welcoming Bobsleigh s trials of Olympic Games of 1968 in Grenoble, making the resort one historical and unmissable place in inhabitants of Isère s memory. VILLARD DE LANS Villard-de-Lans is the principal town of Vercors upland. With its extended area, its forest, mountain and wildlife wealth, Villardde-Lans has fully benefited of Olympic Games of 1968 to boost its renown. Alpine domain or Nordic or sledge or ice skate, Villard-de-Lans is the birth place and welcome territory of many French champions. 15
