UPPER PENINSULA NET NEWS SERVING THE WESTERN GREAT LAKES HAM OF THE YEAR K8SKY SKYE WITTIG KALEVA MI HAM OF THE MONTH KD8NXN CLAUDE DEAN MARION MI APRIL 2013 FROM THE EDITOR-----------------------------------------BILL, N8NJA bkn8nja@att.net Here we are enjoying the month of April, the official start of Spring. My Question is, Where is it? I started to work on this newsletter this morning and had a major computer problem. I got the dreaded blue screen and the message was no boot partition in the table I spent a good part of the day trying to get things to work and no luck. So this is being done on a very old and very slow old machine. First thing to bring up before I forget is that the Cadillac Swap will take place on May 4 th and the U. P. Net will have a meeting at 10:00 a.m. Hope a lot of people can make it. You will see that this month s newsletter contains some pictures of the well known collection of radio at the home of W9EVT. I want to thank Jim, W8JNL for sending them and Les, WA8LE and Dave N8DP for making them available. There are many more pictures they sent, the collection is just unbelievable! Some of our snowbirds are starting to return, sure is nice to hear them on the air again. See you all on May 4 th in Cadillac. PART OF THE COLLECTION OF GEORGE, W9EVT PHOTOS BY LES, WA8LE AND DAVE, N8DP

FROM THE COLLECTION OF GEORGE, W9EVT

THE YOUPERS VACATION IN MEXICO.From George, W8OWN Ole, Sven and Lars decide they are going to Mexico for a vacation. They get falling down drunk and wake up in jail and find out they all have been sentenced to die in the electric chair. Sven is the first to be strapped in the electric chair and the guards ask if he has any last words. Sven says, I yust graduated from college in the Youper Peninsoula, with a degree in divinity studies, and I am good Christian man. But if it is God s will for me to die, so be it. The guard throws the switch and nothing happens. The guards get on their knees and say, You are surely a Godly man and we are going to let you go. Lars is next to be strapped into the electric chair and the guards ask if he has any last words. Lars says, I too yust graduated from the same college with a degree in divinity studies, and I am a God fearing man. If it is my time to die, it is God s will. The guards throw the switch and nothing happens. The guards say, You are also a Godly man and we are going to let you go. Ole is the last to be strapped into the electric chair. The guards ask him if he has any last words. Ole says, Vel, I yust graduated from the University in electrical engineering. And I ll tell ya right now, if you don t plug dat ting in, it ain t gonna work. BILL KELSO 133 SIXTH STREET MARION MI 49665
